In this exploration students are introduced to science concepts such as how sunlight heats the ground and how objects that block sunlight cast shadows. The resource tests materials to find which block sunlight or allow it to pass through. Students develop mathematical skills by recording data and drawing conclusions supported by evidence gained. Torch requires 4 AA batteries, NOT included.

In this project students learn about maps and coordinates whilst following Pam and Ava around a National Park. Students gain an understanding of the relevance of contour lines in a fun and interactive way. Through the process students encounter challenging concepts made understandable through practical exercises and will be able to design and develop their own map of the park.

Students are introduced to the effects of friction through Ron, a skateboarding Armadillo. This fun practical exploration introduces the concepts of guessing (predicting), graphing and recording data. Additionally, it develops an understanding of the effects of gradients on a rolling object and distance travelled. This kit will absorb students as they learn by experimenting.

Silly Straws Challenge Kit

This kit explores the comparison of different materials and friction properties through engineering and design. It considers how different animals naturally keep from slipping and how we can learn from nature to solve problems. The project incorporates the practical skills of planning and conducting investigation. It also introduces using quantitative data to make comparisons and claims supported by evidence.

In this challenge students learn about earthquakes, what they are and where they can occur. They develop an understanding about engineering design and how engineers are involved in keeping people safe. The students test earthquake-safe technologies and adhere to budget constraints. They also develop skills in using models and making claims based on actual evidence and communicating technical information. VersaTimersÂŽ each require 2 G10-A Button Cells, included.

Through building a point-of-sale stand this challenge introduces students to the concepts of problem-solving through design, prototyping and evaluation. It provides further understanding in the use of materials within design and cost constraints. It also extends their skills in model-building and making claims based on evidence as well as the communication and use of technical information.
