PURE STORAGE
When Pure Storage continued growing and expanding – we were there again to assist with the design of the additional 3,000 sq m of office space to accommodate their rapidly growing engineering team in Prague’s popular Karlín district. The combination of the environment and the brief to create new offices for programmers led us to designing the workplace as a city of the future. The theme is reflected in the technical materials used, which combine metallic look with OSBs or unconventional perforated MDFs. Linear LED lighting lines the meeting rooms, giving them a futuristic feel. All corridors are illuminated with orange lamps creating the impression of a street. The area looks as if pieced together from OSB panels, forming very airy space. The lightness was achieved through optical illusions created by mirrors.

The individual meeting rooms and huddle rooms were designed with a superheroes theme. Comic books fans can thus discover the inspiration behind each meeting room’s design.

BOEHRINGER INGELHEIM
This is one of the first projects Cushman & Wakefield secured from the building selection to turnkey delivery. In the beginning, the client assigned us with a workplace analysis to capture their office space demands. Based on these, the building was selected. The company had a very progressive design manual which aimed at efficient office space utilization. Combining this with the workplace analysis, the client could reduce their office area from 1,400 sq m to 560 sq m. We prepared the firm’s representatives for the transition from enclosed individual offices to a shared agile workplace in a series of design workshops, and designed the space to best fit their needs. Boehringer Ingelheim’s town of origin and the pharmaceutical industry both inspired the office design, as did human genetics and organic chemistry. The Ingelheim town lead us to the use of its traditional materials or those that evoke them, such as wood, cut stone and the structure of stone mosaic and bricks. Genetics and organic chemistry directed us to the morphology used, which were round shapes. All of this resulted in a unique combination of materials and forms. The motive on the floor represents a look into the microscope, cells that define individual zones in the space. Organics is also manifested in the layout, with rounded partitions enabling more fluent and natural movement through the area.

The space plan was designed in detail to the last square metre, with no space left unused. There are many instances where one space is used for multiple kinds of activity, making the utilization even more efficient. Big meeting rooms are an example, which can be interconnected not only with one another but also with the whole collaborative space. This way, the entire firm can meet, whether for formal or after-work events.

How to motivate employees‘ return to the office after a long period of working from home? And do all of them need to be back in the office daily at all? Our thorough workplace analysis and subsequent strategy showed that the answer varies from team to team – and with desk-sharing introduced, the firm will fit into its existing premises even after the expected team expansion, without having to move. To make the workplace more attractive, a refresh of the office was performed: more colours and greenery applied throughout the space, the existing furniture combined with new to provide additional storage space. With lighter and brighter colours, even the formerly darker corners were changed into areas where people are happy to work. Visitors are welcomed in a reception area that’s also been refreshed, as were the meeting rooms which were designed using the same set of colours but in varying combinations, no two being alike.

For the employees‘ greater comfort, we focused on creating zones to accommodate various types of work. On every floor, there is a quiet corner, half-open space partly separated from the rest of the office and enabling focused work. Full of greenery, these oases are very popular among the employees. So are the new relax and social zones which are open and pleasant, decorated with warm colours and lights and equipped with wooden furniture, and have quickly become the living hearts of the office.
