Editorial

Dear readers,

DALILA AGRATI

FIM Europe Press Officer

As we reach the midpoint of the 2026 season, one thing is already clear: European motorcycling continues to demonstrate remarkable passion.

Over the past three months, race after race, we have witnessed extraordinary performances across every discipline.

From motocross to circuit racing, from enduro to trial, from speedway to supermoto, hundreds of riders, organisers, officials and volunteers have contributed to making every event another celebration of our sport. This issue reflects that vibrant momentum, collecting the stories, achievements and emotions that have characterised one of the busiest periods of the year.

Yet FIM Europe is about much more than competition.

The second quarter of 2026 culminated in one of the most significant moments: the 30th FIM Europe Congress in Warsaw. More than an institutional gathering, the elective Congress represented

an opportunity to define the future through participation, dialogue and shared responsibility. Delegates from FMNs across Europe came together not only to elect the new leadership for the 2026–2030 mandate, but also to exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships and reaffirm the values that unite our community. It was a powerful reminder that the strength of FIM Europe lies in the collaboration between its people.

Behind every championship, every decision and every initiative is the commitment of countless individuals working with the same objective: to develop motorcycle sport and motorcycling throughout Europe, while preserving the spirit of cooperation that has always characterised our Federation.

As the season continues, many challenges and exciting events still await us. We look forward to sharing them with you in the next issue.

Until then, thank you for being part of the FIM Europe family, and enjoy the read!

World Environment Day

World Environment Day, initiated by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) since 1973, is the largest platform for promoting environmental awareness and action, and in 2026 focuses on climate change - on the urgent signals the Earth is sending and the signals we choose to send back. UNEP’s global campaign calls on all of us to step in #NowForClimate, and steer a world already in motion.

FIM Europe Sustainability Commission organised the first FIM Europe Sustainability Steward Webinar, which was scheduled on 3rd June, during the FIM Sustainability Week and just before World Environment Day (5 June). It represents an important step in strengthening sustainability expertise within European motorcycling activities.

The loss of biodiversity is also a disturbing phenomenon. Deforestation, pollution, and human activity are putting many plant and animal species at risk of extinction. Scientists warn that the weakening of ecosystems could lead to changes across the planet that are difficult to reverse.

While the scale of the problem seems enormous, there are real ways to counteract these threats. Systemic actions are crucial: developing renewable energy sources, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, protecting forests, and restoring degraded areas. Equally important are the everyday decisions of every person: saving energy and water, sorting waste, reducing plastics, using public transport, and planting trees. Even small actions taken by millions of people can bring noticeable results.

These days, the FIM is promoting the FIM Sustainability Week: an international platform aimed at inspiring positive change among all affiliated federations and stakeholders. Its objective is to strengthen a global motorcycling community that actively contributes, through everyday actions, to a more sustainable future. The FIM Sustainability Week encourages the motorcycling community to step in, take responsibility, and help steer a world already in motion toward more resilient and climate-conscious practices.

FIM

Earth Day 2026

Wednesday, 22nd April, marks the 56th anniversary of Earth Day. The FIM Europe Sustainability Commission calls on everyone to support this year’s theme: OUR POWER, OUR PLANET.

In 2026, Our Power. Our Planet. refers to the role of people and communities worldwide to work together and take action to provide environmental protection that affects the cost of living, public health, infrastructure reliability, and long-term stability. Earth Day 2026 asks communities worldwide to take action during Earth Week to support clean air, clean water, clean energy, protect natural resources, infrastructure, and climate stability.

FIM Europe supports Earth Day and environmental sustainability by urging the motorcycling community to adopt eco-friendly practices.

Some of the activities of the FIM Europe Sustainability Commission, which support Our Power, Our Planet, include:

• Plastic Reduction: Encouraging the use of reusable bottles and reducing single-use plastic cups, plates, and cutlery at events.

• Protection of the Ground: Promoting the use of environmental mats under motorcycles and generators in paddocks to prevent soil contamination.

• Education: Sustainability Stewards provide education to organisers, participants and officials.

• Sustainable Practices: Supporting the transition to renewable energy sources

• Waste management: ensure correct disposal of hazardous waste and promote recycling.

• Protecting Biodiversity: Implementing and monitoring compliance with the FIM Environmental Code to protect the area and the community where the competition takes place.

The FIM Europe Sustainability Commission focuses on sustainable racing, education, and organising eco-friendly initiatives at competitions.

The Commission often highlights these initiatives during the FIM Sustainability Week, aiming to create a lasting legacy of environmental responsibility in motorcycling.

Therefore, in 2026 The FIM Europe Sustainability Commission will begin a brand-new Seminar for the Education and Licencing of Sustainability Stewards for European and National Championships. Stay tuned!

There are many ways you can get involved and make a difference for our planet, on Earth Day and every day. Join millions worldwide by participating in Earth Day 2026 activities. Attend a local event or plan and register your own. Celebrate Earth Day in your community, at home, at work, and at school, with quizzes, fact sheets, and articles.

FIM Continental Union executives meet in Fiumicino to strengthen international cooperation and share best practices

On 8 and 9 June, the FIM Europe Administration offices in Fiumicino, Italy, hosted a meeting between FIM Asia Secretary General Franck Vayssié, FIM Oceania Secretary General Simon Maas and FIM Europe CEO Alessandro Sambuco.

Regular contacts among the Chief Executives and Secretaries General of the FIM Continental Unions have become an important element in strengthening cooperation within the international motorcycling community. This ongoing dialogue is facilitated by the valuable work of the FIM Liaison Department and by the excellent professional and personal relationships that unite the six executives leading the Continental Union administrations.

The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange best practices and experiences in the management of continental activities, as well as to discuss a number of emerging issues affecting the development and governance of motorcycle sport and motorcycling across different regions of the world.

Particular attention was devoted to identifying common approaches to challenges that increasingly require coordi-

nated action and a shared strategic vision. The participants also reviewed opportunities for further cooperation among the Continental Unions, recognising the importance of harmonising procedures and exchanging expertise in order to enhance efficiency, consistency and service to affiliated National Federations.

The discussions reaffirmed the commitment of the Continental Unions to work closely together in support of the FIM’s global objectives, while respecting the specific characteristics and needs of each continent. Meetings such as this continue to play an important role in fostering mutual understanding, strengthening institutional cooperation and promoting the sustainable growth of motorcycling worldwide.

The participants expressed their appreciation for the constructive and open exchange of ideas and agreed to maintain regular communication on matters of common interest, further reinforcing the spirit of collaboration that characterises relations among the FIM Continental Unions.

ALESSANDRO SAMBUCO

“I believe that the added value of these meetings, whether held at an institutional level or among colleagues through bilateral discussions and small working groups, lies in their ability to ensure consistency, synergy and efficiency in the administrative practices adopted across the Continental Unions, while preventing important matters from remaining unresolved. As these meetings take place on a regular basis and are complemented by frequent day-to-day contacts through digital communication tools, it becomes increasingly difficult for emerging issues to go unexamined or for potential solutions not to be discussed and shared. This continuous exchange of information and experience enables us to respond more effectively to the challenges we face and to maintain a common understanding of priorities and objectives. In an era characterised by the need for immediate responses and timely solutions to the issues arising in the administration and governance of international motorcycling, I am convinced that this approach is both necessary and highly effective. It allows us to act with greater coherence, speed and confidence for the benefit of our National Federations, stakeholders and the wider motorcycling community. Beyond their practical value, however, I would also like to highlight the human dimension of these meetings. It is always a genuine pleasure to meet colleagues from the other Continents and to strengthen the excellent personal relationships that underpin our professional cooperation. Mutual trust, friendship and respect remain fundamental elements in building successful international partnerships and in serving the interests of motorcycling worldwide.”

FRANCK VAYSSIÉ

FIM Asia Secretary General

“Following the productive joint working meeting held at the FIM Europe headquarters in Rome, I would like to express my sincere gratitude and share my perspective on this pivotal step for our Continental Unions (CONUs). Having officially taken up my position as General Secretary of FIM Asia on March 1st of this year, this summit in Rome represents a vital milestone for my integration and our strategic alignment. I would like to extend my deepest thanks to Alessandro Sambuco, CEO of FIM Europe and his team, for his gracious invitation and hospitality, as well as to Simon Maas, General Secretary of FIM Oceania, for his active participation and valuable insight. For a new executive leader, being able to collaborate closely with experienced peers is an invaluable opportunity. This meeting allowed FIM Asia to benefit directly from their deep institutional knowledge and extensive experience, reinforcing a shared commitment to unity, mutual learning, and humble collaboration. These intercontinental meetings are essential to collapse geographic distances and build permanent bridges between our unions. By pooling our strengths, FIM Asia, FIM Europe, and FIM Oceania are laying solid foundations to guide the sport in the right direction, with an absolute priority placed on nurturing young talent and creating international pathways for the next generation of riders. Beyond our formal discussions, the camaraderie and unified purpose shared in Rome demonstrate that the future of motorcycle sport relies on collective synergy. FIM Asia is fully committed to this collaborative journey, looking forward hand in hand with our continental partners to elevate the discipline worldwide”.

SIMON MAAS

FIM Oceania Secretary General

“It is always a positive experience to spend time with the other CONU Secretaries General and Executives and to have the opportunity to discuss the important topics affecting our CONUs. Whilst we may come from different parts of the world, but there is so much that unites our regions via the common passion for motorcycles and motorcycle sport. The important topics, challenges and opportunities are very similar worldwide. We all need to have a focus on junior development, women’s participation and supporting volunteers. In the case of FIM Oceania the longstanding relationship with FIM Europe has been important as many riders from Oceania use the FIM Europe championships as a pathway to the FIM World Championships. Likewise, the link between FIM Oceania and FIM Asia is obvious as we are neighbouring CONUs with many riders competing across both regions. Sharing ideas, experiences and systems between CONUs helps us all learn from each other. Having an open dialogue and communication in this recent meeting has again been highly productive and positive. Our thanks to FIM Europe for hosting this meeting and make us feel very welcome, as normal”.

MXGP OF SARDEGNA RIOLA SARDO

11th - 12th April

Skovbjerg breaks Garcia’s streak as Ernecker extends red plate in Sardegna

The Sardegna Round of the FIM Europe Motocross European Championships delivered a weekend of high-intensity racing at the demanding Riola Sardo circuit, where deep sand, rough lines and technical sections tested the limits of Europe’s rising stars. Both the EMX250 and EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing classes produced dramatic races, with standout performances, unexpected twists and important shifts in the championship battles.

Riola Sardo, Italy

“Yeah, it was a really good weekend. To be still the red plate, so I think also I gained a lot of points this weekend. So yeah, I'm really happy about this weekend."

“Really, really good, because also Garcia is riding really strong this season, so I'm the first one to beat him, it's really, really nice."

MXGP OF TRENTINO PIETRAMURATA

18th - 19th April

Pietramurata, Italy

Cannon and Ernecker shine in spectacular trentino showdown

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Dolomites, the Round of Trentino once again delivered a spectacular stage for Europe’s rising stars. The hardpack circuit of Pietramurata, known for its technical layout, great elevation and unforgiving surface, challenged riders across both EMX250 and EMX125 presented by FMF Racing classes, demanding a solid race craft at every lap. With perfect conditions and a passionate crowd lining the hillsides, the weekend provided a true test of talent and resilience, where momentum could shift in an instant and every mistake was costly.

Dominance and resilience defined the weekend in Trentino, as Venum BUD Racing Kawasaki’s Jake Cannon secured his first overall victory in EMX250 with a consistent 2-2 performance, while Norman KTM Factory Rookies’ Moritz Ernecker delivered a flawless display in EMX125, sweeping both races for a perfect 1-1. Behind them, MX-Handel Husqvarna Racing’s Nicolai Skovbjerg impressed with a race win and second overall in EMX250, as Venum BUD Racing Kawasaki’s Francisco Garcia salvaged a remarkable podium, probably his hardest third overall of his career to grab, while in EMX125, Norman KTM Factory Rookies’ Ricardo Bauer and Yamaha Europe Monster Energy MJC’s Sleny Goyer completed the podium after strong and consistent rides across both races.

“It was a really good day for me. Four podiums from four races and three overall wins, so I’m very happy with how everything is going. The goal was to stay consistent and keep the momentum, and to still be leading the championship at this point is very satisfying."

“I mean, I left everything I had on the track, and I’m really proud of my effort today and this weekend. If I didn’t fight all the way to the end and make that pass on the final lap, I wouldn’t be standing on the top step. I’m just over the moon”.

OF FRANCE LACAPELLE MARIVAL

23rd_ 24th May

Lacapelle Marival, France

Bauer turns the tables to claim the overall round win in France

Round 5 of the EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing series delivered a thrilling two-race weekend at Lacapelle Marival, with the Norman KTM Factory Rookies squad dominating proceedings but in contrasting fashion across Saturday and Sunday. Norman KTM Factory Rookies' Moritz Ernecker took Race 1 in dominant style, but it was his teammate Ricardo Bauer who reversed the result in Race 2 to claim the overall win. Sleny Goyer from Yamaha Europe Monster Energy MJC capitalised on his home race to get a much deserved third step on the podium.

“In

the first race I didn't have a good start, but managing to come through from mid-pack to second was actually pretty amazing. Today I had a pretty good start, managed to stay at the front for almost the whole moto, so I'm pretty happy about it.”

30th - 31st May

Teutschenthal, Germany

overall victory

The classic Talkessel circuit at Teutschenthal provided a spectacular stage for Round 5 of the FIM Europe EMX250, with contrasting conditions across the two races delivering drama, momentum swings, and a worthy overall winner in Jake Cannon of Venum BUD RACING Kawasaki, the Australian claiming back-to-back GP victories and moving to second in the championship standings, 30 points behind his own teammate Francisco Garcia.

“I can’t be happier. From last year to this year, it’s a big step. I’m continuously growing and I think it’s good for me, the championship, and also the team — me and Francisco Garcia are putting on a clinic at the moment.”
Jake Cannon

MXGP OF LATVIA KEGUMS

06th - 07th June

Garcia takes maximum points in EMX250; Ernecker seals overall in EMX125 in Latvia

The MXGP of Latvia at the Motocenter Zelta Zirgs in Kegums delivered a spectacular weekend of racing for both the EMX250 and EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing classes, with dominant doubles, breathtaking home-crowd moments and landmark career results all packed into two days of racing on the sandy Latvian circuit.

In the EMX250, championship leader Francisco Garcia was once again peerless, sweeping both races for a perfect 50-point maximum, while local hero Jekabs Kubulins produced a great race 2 on home soil to the delight of the crowd.

In the EMX125, Moritz Ernecker answered Race 1 winner Ricardo Bauer’s challenge with a dominant Race 2 win to take the overall, while New Zealand’s Levi Townley claimed a landmark first career podium in the class with two clinical rides.

Kegums, Latvia

"The feeling was not the best this weekend but I stayed calm, rode like myself and played with the track. That's what you need to do here."

"It was a good weekend for the championship. Really unfortunate I couldn't take the win in Race 1, but that's racing and i'm very happy to take the overall."

Francisco Garcia

20th - 21st June

Montevarchi, Italy

Garcia doubles up in Montevarchi as Tiburcio and Fueri get their first podium

The classic Talkessel circuit at Teutschenthal provided a spectacular stage for Round 5 of the FIM Europe EMX250, with contrasting conditions across the two races delivering drama, momentum swings, and a worthy overall winner in Jake Cannon of Venum BUD RACING Kawasaki, the Australian claiming back-to-back GP victories and moving to second in the championship standings, 30 points behind his own teammate Francisco Garcia.

"It's really difficult on this kind of track to make a big difference, so I'm happy to win here too. I'm pleased because I feel strong on every type of ground, in the sand, on the hard pack, in the mud. I've got 11 wins from 14 races now, I think, so I'm very happy. It was my grandmother's birthday yesterday, so felicidades, te quiero, this one is for her."

MXGP OF PORTUGAL AGUEDA

27th - 28th June

Agueda, Portugal

Garcia perfect in EMX250 and Bauer in EMX125 in Agueda

The sun-baked hills of Agueda delivered two days of relentless action as the FIM Europe EMX250 and EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing Championships rolled into Portugal for round eight and round seven respectively. In hot, sunny and near-perfect conditions, both classes served up dominant front-running, hard racing and a title picture that shifted on the final day.

In EMX250, Venum BUD Racing Kawasaki’s Francisco Garcia was simply untouchable. The Spaniard swept both races for a third overall victory of the season and stretched his championship lead to a commanding 104 points over teammate Jake Cannon. Joe Brookes celebrated a maiden EMX250 podium in second overall, with Maddii Racing Honda’s Elias Escandell completing the podium in third.

In EMX125, Norman KTM Factory Rookies’ Ricardo Bauer turned the title race on its head. A second-race win sealed the overall ahead of Yamaha Europe Monster Energy MJC’s Sleny Goyer and Fantic Factory Racing EMXs Bertram Thorius, and with championship leader and teammate Moritz Ernecker enduring a nightmare Sunday, Bauer slashed the gap at the top of the standings to just 19 points.

“That was a hardcharging race and a second race win. It was a really close move on Riba for the lead — it was close, and I’m sorry to hit him like that, but it’s fair racing. It’s a massive achievement for me and the team. We’re only 19 points behind my teammate now, so we’re getting back into it. Thank you for everything.”

I train every day to be the best version of myself and to not be tired in the race. I work so hard with my trainer and my team to be able to do this, and this is only the beginning. I’m already focusing on next year too, so we’ll see what happens.”

Linus Persen secures European crown in Norway

11th- 12th April

The Snowcross European Championship raced its single event alongside the last round of the 2026 FIM Snowcross World Championship, which reached its conclusion at the Grånasen Sports Park, on the western edge of the city of Trondheim.

Located 500 km north of the capital Oslo, in the amazing geography of the northernmost Scandinavian nation, and on the edge of the mighty Trondheim Fjord, the challenge was spectacular for riders and teams.

Local hero Elias Ishoel, who both contributed to building the track and returned to race on home snow. On qualifying day, he was the main man of the day with a strong and dominant performance that placed him right at the top of the contenders. Next in line were Jan Even Romsdal, who finished second with a decent 3-2 while Isak Persen managed to finish third with 4-3.

Trondheim, Norway

The opening race saw Persen take control and secure victory with a strong and consistent performance. Behind him, Linus Pettersson and Hugo Rinne completed the podium. Ishoel showed flashes of speed, even setting the fastest lap of the race, but early issues dropped him down the order, preventing him from fighting for the win. Race 2 belonged to Ishoel. Determined to deliver in front of his home crowd, the Norwegian came out firing and dominated the race, taking a commanding victory. It was a statement ride on a track he helped design—showcasing both his skill and his deep understanding of the circuit. Despite Ishoel’s Race 2 win, it was Isak Persen’s consistency across both races that secured him the overall victory and the European Title. Ishoel finished second overall with Pettersson third on the podium. However, it was the consistency of Jan Even Romsdal over the Qualifying of Friday and races that propelled the Norwegian to the third step of the Championship Podium for a 100% Norwegian Trio!

Sevlievo, Bulgaria

The EMX65 / EMX85 European Championship entered its decisive phase with the first Semi-Final of the season, bringing together the best riders from the South West and South East Zones in Sevlievo, Bulgaria.

Hosted at the renowned Gorna Rositsa circuit, one of the most prestigious motocross venues in Eastern Europe, the event represented a crucial step on the road to the European Championship Final. With qualification spots at stake, Europe’s most promising young riders delivered an intense weekend of racing, showcasing the talent, determination and competitive spirit that continue to make the EMX65 and EMX85 Championships a fundamental platform for the development of future motocross stars.

While the South West and South East riders battled in Bulgaria, the second Semi-Final between the Central Europe and North Europe Zones will take place on 11–12 July in Pärnu, Estonia. The best 20 riders from both Semi-Finals will then meet in the prestigious Final scheduled for 26 July in Loket, Czech Republic, alongside the MXGP of Czech Republic.

EMX65

The EMX65 category delivered two highly competitive races featuring riders from both qualifying zones.

Race 1 saw Spain’s Alonso Tribaldos Molina (GasGas) take a convincing victory after controlling the race from the front. Italy’s Daniel Corda (KTM) secured second place, while fellow Spaniard Adan Quesada (GasGas) completed the podium. Among the leading South East riders, Bulgaria’s Georgi Iliev (GasGas) finished fifth ahead of championship contenders Nikolay Pavlov (GasGas) and Dimitris Fotopoulos (Yamaha).

The second race produced another intense battle. This time Daniel Corda (KTM) turned the tables, taking victory ahead of Georgi Iliev (GasGas) and Alonso Tribaldos Molina (GasGas). Serbian rider Viktor Kolnookov (KTM), winner of the South East Zone standings, finished seventh, while Pavlov and Fotopoulos encountered more difficulties and remained outside the leading positions.

With a second and a victory, Daniel Corda secured the overall Semi-Final win. Consistency proved decisive for Alonso Tribaldos Molina, who finished second overall, while Georgi Iliev completed the podium thanks to his strong performance in Race 2. The Bulgarian rider also emerged as the

highest-placed representative from the South East Zone, confirming the excellent form he had already demonstrated throughout the qualifying rounds.

EMX85

The EMX85 Semi-Final was dominated by the South West riders, who occupied the leading positions throughout the weekend.

France’s Tim Lopes (KTM) immediately established himself as the rider to beat, winning Race 1 by almost fifteen seconds after setting the fastest pace of the field. Fellow Frenchman Mathys Agullo (KTM) finished second, while Arthur Annelot (GasGas) completed an all-French podium. The leading South East rider was Romania’s Vlad Stefan Stoichitu (Husqvarna), who finished 30th.

Race 2 followed a similar pattern. Lopes once again controlled the race from the front, securing his second victory of the weekend ahead of Liam Morette (Husqvarna) and Mathys Agullo (KTM). Behind them, a tightly contested battle unfolded among the remaining top positions, with several riders exchanging places throughout the race.

With a perfect score of 50 points, Tim Lopes secured the overall victory and confirmed his status as one of the favourites heading towards the Final. Mathys Agullo’s second and third places earned him second overall, while Liam Morette climbed onto the podium thanks to his impressive runner-up finish in Race 2.

The Sevlievo Semi-Final successfully identified the first group of riders who will continue their European Championship journey towards Loket, where the continent’s best young motocross talents will meet for the ultimate showdown of the season.

Famous for its high-speed asphalt sections connected to a tricky and technical off-road section, put the riders’ athletic preparation and tire management to a severe test.

Nathan Terraneo (Yamaha), starting from third place, did not have a good start and lost two positions; ahead of him, a great sprint from Djamal Juste Watt (Insane Parts Suzuki) and Noah Champagne (TSV Racing). At the front of the race, Lapadula defended himself in the opening laps against attacks from Kovalov, but as the laps went by, the Italian opened up a small lead. In trying to recover, Kovalov made a mistake that saw him drop to fifth position, a place he would also hold at the checkered flag. Great three-way battle for second place, which was taken by Juste Watt in second and Champagne in third.

In this second moto, Yevsevii Kovalov does not make a mistake at the start and takes the lead ahead of everyone at

the first corner; Leonardo Lapadula immediately sets off in second position in pursuit of the leader. Nathan Terraneo staged a massive comeback fueled by fast laps and overtakes, finishing in third place. Sweden secures first place in a thrilling battle at Pardubice

06th June

The 2026 European Under 24 Team Speedway Championship got underway with an exciting Qualifying Round in Pardubice, Czech Republic, one of Europe’s most iconic speedway venues. Renowned for its rich speedway heritage and passionate fan base, Pardubice has hosted countless national and international events over the decades and once again provided a fitting stage for the continent’s most promising young riders.

Held under sunny skies, the meeting benefited from rainfall the previous day, which helped prepare a fast and raceable track. The conditions allowed riders to explore multiple racing lines throughout the afternoon, creating numerous overtaking opportunities and producing some spectacular battles for the enthusiastic crowd.

Four teams – Sweden, Czechia, Slovenia and the Young Europe Mixed Team – lined up with only one qualification place available for the Final. From the very first heats it became clear that Sweden and the host nation Czechia would be the main contenders, while Slovenia and the Young Europe Mixed Team steadily improved as the meeting progressed and remained firmly in contention until the final races.

Sweden ultimately emerged victorious with 39 points, securing the only available qualification spot for the Final. The Scandinavian team displayed remarkable consistency across all twenty heats, led by an outstanding Casper Henriksson, who topped the individual scoring with 14 points. He was strongly supported by Noel Wahlquist and Avon Van Dyck, both contributing 10 points, while Ludvig Selvin added a valuable five points to complete the winning effort.

Behind the winners, the battle for the remaining podium positions remained unresolved until the very last heat. The Young Europe Mixed Team eventually secured second place with 28 points. Patrick Hyjek scored nine points, while Sebastian Kössler added six and both Zoltan Lovas and Carlos Gennerich contributed five points each in a strong collective performance.

Slovenia finished only one point behind in third position with 27 points after a highly competitive afternoon. Anže Grmek and Sven Cerjak were the standout performers for the Slovenian side, each scoring 10 points and keeping their team in contention throughout the meeting.

For the home Czech team, the disappointment of missing

qualification was softened by a remarkable individual performance from Adam Bubba Bednář. The young Czech rider was the highest scorer of the entire event with an impressive 15 points and repeatedly thrilled the home crowd with his speed and determination. Despite his efforts, Czechia narrowly missed out on a podium finish, ending the meeting fourth with 26 points. Daniel Klíma added seven points, while Adam Nejezchleba contributed four.

The result means that Sweden joins the already qualified teams of Great Britain, Denmark and host nation Poland in the Final of the 2026 European Under 24 Team Speedway Championship.

The championship decider is scheduled to take place on 22 August in Grudziądz, Poland, where Europe’s best young speedway talents will battle for continental glory.

Denmark ends Poland’s reign with dramatic Grand Final victory

Rzeszów, Poland #02

9th May

The 2026 European Team Speedway Championship reached its spectacular conclusion on Sunday in Rzeszów, Poland, where an exciting Grand Final delivered high-intensity racing and a dramatic battle for the continental title. Around 4,000 spectators filled the stadium in south-eastern Poland, creating a fantastic atmosphere for one of the most anticipated team events of the season.

Following the qualification round in Pardubice last month, Denmark, Sweden and Latvia joined host nation Poland in the Grand Final. Under the current format, each national team was allowed one FIM Speedway Grand Prix rider alongside a mandatory Under 21 rider, giving emerging talents the opportunity to gain experience on a major international stage.

Having dominated the Championship over the past four seasons, Poland entered the meeting as favourites once again. However, the other teams arrived in Rzeszów determined to challenge the hosts and break their winning streak.

From the opening heats, the racing proved fast, aggressive and highly competitive. Despite the presence of several Speedway Grand Prix stars, the event demonstrated once again the unpredictable nature of team speedway, with younger riders and less experienced competitors often matching the sport’s biggest names.

By the halfway stage of the meeting, Denmark had started to build momentum and gradually pulled away in the standings, while Poland remained under pressure from Latvia and Sweden in the fight for the podium positions.

One of the defining moments came in Heat 14, when six-time Speedway World Champion Bartosz Zmarzlik was nominated for a tactical ride in an attempt to boost Poland’s

score. In a dramatic twist, the Polish star suffered an engine failure just moments after the start, leaving the home crowd stunned and handing a major advantage to Denmark.

The action remained intense until the very end. Heat 17 produced one of the closest finishes of the day between Denmark’s Frederik Jakobsen and Latvia’s Andzejs Lebedevs. With the meeting broadcast live on Polish television, the referee was forced to review multiple camera angles before confirming the final order.

For the concluding heats, team managers selected their strongest riders based on performances throughout the afternoon, setting up a decisive final race featuring each team’s top scorer. The last heat delivered a spectacular showdown between Bartosz Zmarzlik and Andzejs Lebedevs, with the lead changing several times over four breathtaking laps. In the end, Zmarzlik crossed the finish line first by only a few metres, delighting the Polish fans despite the broader disappointment of losing the title.

At the end of a dramatic and unpredictable Grand Final, Denmark successfully ended Poland’s four-year dominance to become the 2026 European Team Speedway Champions. The Danish riders and management celebrated an emotional and well-deserved victory after a consistently strong team performance throughout the day.

The 2026 European Individual Grass Track Championship got underway on 31 May at the famous Leineweberring in Bielefeld, Germany, where the Championship Challenge determined the riders who will advance to the Final scheduled for 29 August in Aduard, The Netherlands.

Organised by DMSC Bielefeld under the auspices of FIM Europe, the event attracted some of the strongest grass track specialists from across the continent. Danish rider Jacob Bukhave produced a strong performance to finish second on 19 points, remaining in con-

tention for victory until the closing stages of the meeting. Another British rider, Andrew Appleton, completed the podium with 16 points after a series of determined rides.
