Cinema Belgica database 15.10 • 11:15 • Kinepolis Op donderdag 15 oktober lanceert de Universiteit Gent, in samenwerking met de Universiteit Antwerpen en de Universiteit van Amsterdam een gloednieuw openaccess dataplatform, Cinema Belgica genaamd, dat het begrip, de verdere exploratie en analyse van cinema als dominant publiek medium en als populaire cultuur an sich moet vergemakkelijken. Naast een encyclopedische schat aan informatie omtrent productie, distributie, vertoning, programmering en censuur van films in België vanaf 1896, biedt Cinema Belgica ook gesofisticeerde onderzoeksmogelijkheden om de geschiedenis van film in België te doorgronden. Wil je de lancering bijwonen, mail dan naar industry@filmfestival.be. Cinema Belgica, an open access platform for sharing, enriching, analysing and sustaining data on cinema history in Flanders and Belgium from 1896 onwards, will be presented by Ghent University at Film Fest Ghent on 15 October. This platform, as a “Belgian IMDb” will significantly improve the understanding and further exploration of cinema as a dominant public entertainment industry and as lived popular culture. Al sinds 1988 werkt Film Fest Gent samen met de vakgroep Vertalen, Tolken en Communicatie van de Universiteit Gent. Ook tijdens de 47 ste editie ondertitelen studenten van deze vakgroep een aantal films in het Nederlands. In teams van twee projecteren de studenten hun ondertitels live tijdens de voorstellingen in Kinepolis. Dit doen ze in kader van hun stage. Online Congres Screening Censorship

16.10 & 17.10

In januari 2020 kwam er een einde aan de Belgische filmkeuring. Toch is censuur op films ook vandaag nog springlevend. In tandem met Film Fest Gent en de University of British Columbia organiseert de Universiteit Gent op 16 en 17 oktober het internationaal congres Screening Censorship waar meer dan 25 experten en academici het vraagstuk van filmcensuur belichten met concrete cases in Europa, Azië, Noord- en Zuid-Amerika. In het kader van dit congres toont Film Fest Gent ook een selectie van coupures in België (zie p. 117). Meer informatie over het congres vind je op www.censorship-symposium.org. Censorship has had far-reaching implications on filmmakers, distributors, exhibitors, and audiences across generations, and across genres. Today, soft and hard censorship coexist in even more fluid forms. As such, Ghent University is organizing an online, international symposium, Screening Censorship, at Film Fest Ghent that aims to showcase academic and industry voices on the issue.

Screening Ongezien/invisible • 15.10 → p. 117 A number of films will be shown with Dutch subtitles created by students of the department Translation, Interpreting and Communication. The students also project the subtitles live at the screenings in Kinepolis. This work experience, a long lasting collaboration between FFG and UGent, is part of their internship.
