DAY #1 — DIGGING DEEP WITHIN Deep inside of you, there is a hunger for something more; it’s deeper and richer. As a person, you possess tremendous power inside of you. You have COURAGE, FAITH, DETERMINATION, PASSION, and DRIVE to grow, to contribute, and to maximize every ounce of whom you were meant to be. You need to dig within and learn more about yourself. The more you know the more you will be able to achieve. You need to ask these questions; Who Are You? What do you love? What do you hate? What excites you? What drives you? Why did you make the decision to partake in this program? What are you committed to gaining from this, not only for yourself but for those you care about? Why are you really here?

WHY DO YOU WANT TO SPEAK? You need to know the “WHY,” behind your actions… you want to speak, then why? Why do you want to speak? Is it your passion? Do people tell you all the time that you would be an excellent professional speaker? Do you have a burning desire to impact and change lives? Maybe you want to be famous and have people clap for you when you are on stage. Do you want the money that comes with speaking? Now, if you said yes to any of the questions, you’re not wrong, because it is your “WHY” and I can’t tell you if it is right or wrong. All I will say to you is your “WHY” must be bigger than you, it will help and push you up when times get tough, and you feel like quitting. My “WHY” is to give people gas when they feel like they are running on empty. To help individuals and corporations unlock the elite performer inside because time is ticking away every second. I lost my mom to cancer, she wanted so much more from life, but she allowed different things to hold her back. Lastly, my family is my biggest “WHY.” They are counting on me. I want to provide, inspire, and make them proud of what I do. Before we begin, take a moment to reflect upon why you want to speak. What are you committed to do to make your speaking career a reality not only for yourself, but for those you care about? Why do you really want to speak?

PROBLEM SOLVING: WHO DO YOU WANT TO SPEAK TO? To solve a problem, you must know your opponent like I did when I was playing football. To know them, you must first know yourself! This will help you to make some research about them. After that, then who is your audience? (Church, Education (K-12), College, Associations, non-profits, Corporations, Government or Military). Once you figure this out now, you can research what your avatar looks like, such as their demographics, professional and personal traits, where do they get their information from, and their goals and challenges. This is good to know what type of budget your particular industry will have. You want to be aware to adjust your fee accordingly. Think about the groups of people who would benefit most from your speech and the problem you will be solving. FIGURING OUT WHAT TO TALK ABOUT Knowing where you want to talk and doing the work to understand your opponent, also known as your avatar, is step one. Once you figure this out, you will need to know what you are going to talk about. What do you want to share? Within your specific message, what problem will you be solving? You can figure out what you want to talk about by reflecting on what you are passionate about, your work experience, and your personal experiences. Think about those topics you know a lot about, what other speakers are speaking about, and what topics are in high demand in your industry. You will need 2-4 topics that are focused on your audience. I know I asked a lot of questions in the paragraph above, but figuring out what you want to talk about is so important...and don’t say everything. If you had to speak in front of your perfect audience right now, what would you talk about? (BE SPECIFIC)

These different methods of reflection should get you pretty close to figuring out what you want to talk about. These reflections will also be very good for you to create your speech later on in the section on creating your KILLER SPEECH. Now, if you are still struggling with figuring out your topic here is another method you can do. You have to understand yourself, your opponent, and especially your competition. Therefore a good way to figure out your topic is to research your competition. Find the relevant speakers to your industry who are at the top of the field and look at their speaking topics. You can also research relevant conferences to your industry from the previous year and see what topics they booked. Go visit speaker bureaus as well.

DAY #5: PREPARING YOUR KILLER SPEECH One of the best ways to boost your speaking career is to have a KILLER speech that leaves your audience salivating at the mouth like they ate a dozen lemons! When you leave your audience fulfilled you will have the opportunity to get business from the crowd, referrals, and great video to share with potential clients. To create this type of talk you need to figure out what type of speaker you are going to be. There are several types of speakers and their examples include: 1
The Keynote Speaker – You are the main session and usually speaks to the full audience. You are generally paid because you are the headliner. You are given within the range of 45-60 min to speak to your audience.
2
Break Out Speaker – The speaker is asked to speak in one of the multiple sessions at a conference that is planned in the conference. Either in the middle of the day, after or before the keynote speaker. The talk is more specific and narrowed down. For example, “How to Run Facebook Ads.” They tend to be more intimate. (30-60min)
3
Workshops, Seminars, or Training – These are events designed to teach the audience with a level of depth. They must be very interactive to maintain the audience’s attention. Also, materials needed to share out to maximize audience learning. It is typically within 1-3 hours or could be a couple days)
4
It is possible for you to do a Keynote and Break-out Session on the same day. It’s OK if you aren’t for sure right now. As you get more experience, you will be able to identify which one fits you the best.

At this point, you have figured out the industry you want to talk in, your avatar, the audience you would be speaking to, the content you will be speaking about, and the type of talk you want to do. The next thing is to get the title and description for your talks. You can start with 1-3 talks and as you get further along in your career you will start to add more topics, but you need to be consistent with the 1 or 3 topics you have and crush those every time! Creating the title and description for your talk shouldn’t be too complex. Your title shouldn’t be too bland but it also shouldn’t be too catchy where the decision maker doesn’t understand what your talk is about. Your description should be between 1 to 3 sentences explaining what your talk is about and who your talk is best for. What will the audience gain from your speech? I will provide examples below.
Based on Walter Bond’s most recent book SWIM! This powerful keynote dives into the power of adopting a shark mindset and how it can drastically alter the trajectory of your business. SWIM follows four relatable main characters into a journey out in the deep blue. It introduces your team to The Scared Six, an intricate breakdown into how to develop a shark mindset. Sharks never stop swimming. They never go backward. They are flexible. Your team will learn these principles, and more, and walk into the keynote as suckerfish and walk out as SHARKS, hungry for success. Your team will learn practical steps to implement The Scared Six into their lives. With a little humor, a little love, and a lot of passion, Walter will reignite the spark in your team and unlock their inner shark. CREATING YOUR KILLER SPEECH
It’s not about what you said, it’s about what your audience remembers!
”
— SHAMIEL GARY We are building a strong foundation for your speaking career. You did a great job spending time creating titles, figuring out what type of talk you are interested in, as well as creating a description of your speech but it is time to prepare and develop your full speech. So, let’s get started. This speech you prepare has the potential to impact a lot of people and the more you do this speech the sooner you will master it. This speech will evolve as you continue your journey. Remember, it’s not about what you say; it’s about what your audience remembers! It’s not about YOU but it’s about serving your audience’s needs. There are different ways you can structure your speech. When you are creating your speech you can have 1 or more of these ways in your speech. HERE ARE THE WAYS: 1
KEY POINT: This involves the full accounting and representation of the speaker’s main point. They make use of direct quotes of keywords, and phrases. Such as “5 Keys to Success” or “4 Proven Principles for Small Businesses”
2
ACRONYMS: it is a word formed from the initial letters or group of letters of words in a set phrase and pronounced as separate words. Such as P. V. L. E. G. S., (Poise, Voice, Life, Eye Contact, Gesture, Speed).
3
STORY: You can use stories to impact your audience, to teach lessons that will be of benefit to them. Such as the nonfictional story of a person can be used.
Each one of these methods can be powerful if done properly. You can also combine these methods as well. Think about the method you would like to use to create your Killer speech. Which method do you like the best and Why?

You need to embrace the experiences you have been through, the accomplishments you have been able to achieve, the failures, setbacks, and obstacles you had to overcome. Embrace what makes you an expert. Don’t shy away from any of this because this is the connection piece that gives you validity. No matter your past, the storms or challenges that you might have encountered cheer up! Own everything about you and speak it with passion. Your story is important to the world. Since it is so important, I want you to write down 20 stories in your life and the lessons that you learned. DAY #7: OUTLINE — HOW TO PUT YOUR STORIES TOGETHER You’ve already thought about the method in which you want to deliver your message. You have written your stories down and the lessons you’ve learned! I’m very proud of you because that can be a challenging task thinking of stories and lessons. Writing your stories down is so critical to building out your speech. In this section you will learn how to structure your speech with an outline. When you are adding all the ingredients to your Killer Speech you need to be sure that you are thinking about your audience’s needs. You also need to think about what you want them to remember once they leave. Therefore, how do you want them to think and what do you want them to do differently once they leave? Now it’s time to do your outline. As you are creating your outline think about the method in which you want to deliver this talk. A great speech has the ability to bridge the gap between where the speaker is and where the audience is to bring them on the journey. Think about a great movie...What does it do for you? It normally takes you through a journey of emotions. One minute you’re happy, the next minute you are sad the next minute you are laughing and then the next you are anxious, anticipating what is going to happen next. Then it leaves you breathless just saying to yourself “wow.” Here is an example of an outline: • THE INTRODUCTION: This is the part you state all the topics you want to present including the major points of your introduction speech. • THE BODY: This contains all the main points and all the main ideas. This is where you focus on explaining and expanding your topics providing supporting details and credible sources. • THE CONCLUSION: This is where you summarize all the main points and ideas in your concluding speech and highlight important details to make a lasting impression on your audience.

Take time to write your outline and full speech out using the different methods to deliver your message. Don’t think about it too much. Your first draft won’t be your best version. Always know what you want to achieve with your talk before you bring it to life. What do you want your audience to walk away thinking, doing, or saying differently from when they came in? Remember each speech should have different emotions throughout the speech with a good balance. After you have honed in on that, your stories, examples, and activities should tie back into your overall objectives. So get started!

DAY # 8: POSITIONING YOURSELF AS THE GURU…THE EXPERT You have finished your KILLER speech! Give yourself a pat on the back. You are one step closer to reaching your goal as a paid speaker. Make sure you practice, practice, practice, and practice some more. One of the best ways to get noticed, despite all the noise in the speaking market, is being able to position yourself as the expert. When you have positioned yourself in this way you begin to separate yourself and people will pay attention. Positioning yourself as the expert inclines people to work with you. Eventually you will put yourself in a situation where you are not reaching out all the time but instead the decision makers will be reaching out to you. The decision makers are looking for speakers that they think add the most value. They will seek you out because you make them look good and everyone wants to look GOOD. Take a moment to think about why you buy some of the brands you buy…...Crazy right? It could be the same product with a different name and you will choose the product with the name brand recognition. That’s what we are looking to build. Here are some ways we can position ourselves on the next page.

DAY #9: GETTING PAID OPPORTUNITIES
“
You don’t get paid for the hour. You get paid for the value you bring to the hour.
”
— JIM ROHN Now it’s time to get to the thing you have been waiting for...HOW TO GET paid speaking opportunities. Make sure you have completed the previous sections and then come to this section because preparation + hard work + faith = RESULTS. With that being said, let’s get started. FIRST STEP, FIGURING OUT WHERE SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS COME FROM. • Search Traffic: Search Traffic is where individuals or groups are searching for keywords that fit you as a speaker. For example: youth speaker, stem speaker, bullying speaker, etc. Depending on how you optimize your website, and how popular the words the clients are searching, will determine if your website pops-up. • Direct Outreach: This is where you gather leads, or someone else gathers leads, and you either send an email or call to that person directly. This is a great option because you can personalize each email. You can send mass emails, which you will send more emails out at a faster rate, but you lose the personalization and have the potential of going to spam. • Paid Advertisement: You can use Linkedin, Facebook, Instagram, and Google to run ads to generate leads, as well as potential speaking opportunities. You can hire people on Fiverr, Upwork, and other sites to help optimize your ads to their full potential. • Speaker Referrals: It’s important to grow your network of speakers because you can learn how they run their business. You can learn how to perfect your message. You can also have the opportunity to gain more speaking opportunities because if they can’t accept a speaking engagement, for whatever reason, they could always refer you. • Client Referrals: When you crush your next speaking engagement there is a great opportunity for the client to refer you to other people in their network. You can also ask for them, depending on if they liked your work. • Repeats Business: Repeat business is repeat business. Normally this happens where the client has a new audience every year or you can get booked every 2-3 years when a new group has come in.

• You’re Speech: We talked about this already!! Your Cash Cow speech will open doors for you. Especially, if you can get it recorded and share it on all your platforms. That has the potential to lead to other speaking engagements. • Media Coverage: Getting media coverage can help validate your authority, as we talked about in the previous section. Media coverage makes you look larger than life, as well as it puts more eyes on what you are doing. • Speaker Bureaus: Speaker Bureaus are tough, unless you are in high demand, because they aren’t going out of their way to book and promote you. However, it is good to be a part of some Speaker Bureaus because that can give you credibility, as well as, you can potentially get some speaking engagements. • Showcases: You can goto showcases, where you can pay to go and speak in front of different decision makers ready to book presenters. This is a good chance to book engagements as well as network with other speakers and decision makers, but it’s not a guarantee you will receive anything. As you can see, speaking engagements can come from a lot of different places. There will be one of these that dominate where your speaking engagements come from most of the time, but they will all be used as you go farther in your career. Let’s get into how to find speaking engagements and get you rolling!

FINDING SPEAKING OPPORTUNITIES Now you know where the speaking engagements can come from, but how do you go about finding them? This part right here has to be the simplest part of this entire workbook! Google... Google...and Google some more! When it comes to finding speaking engagements google will be your best friend. HERE ARE THE WAYS YOU CAN USE GOOGLE TO FIND SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS: 1
1. When searching for potential conferences you can type into the search bar your one word description of your talk and include conferences or associations such as, dog training associations, dog training conferences, real estate associations, search each state (Oklahoma) Leadership associations or conferences.
2
You can search for Elementary Schools, Middle Schools, High Schools, and Colleges. (https://nces.ed.gov/ccd/schoolsearch)
3
You can also search for rotary clubs and different educational organizations. (https://districtadministration.com/) (https://www.ctsos.org/)
4
Search speaker bureaus, and look at similar speakers testimonials. You can use this as a lead generator, as well as contact these same places because you know they bring in speakers.
5
Search similar speaker’s social media sites and see where they spoke (Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin, and their Facebook). You can use this as a lead generator as well as contact these same places because you know they bring in speakers.
6
Go to Facebook groups that relate to your speaking topics and comment on others’ posts to add value to the group. Also post, not trying to promote you, but instead, to add value to the group. Give it away. Do this on Linkedin, Twitter, and Instagram.

SETTING YOUR SPEAKING FEE You have the tools to find speaking engagements and you have an idea of who the decision makers are but you probably are thinking, how much do I charge? That is a great question! When you first start out it is tough figuring out what you should charge. Until you build your speaking business you need to take what you can get to build your business and gain experience. You can base your speaking off these four things, your experience, your accolades, your notoriety, and your budget. $1k is a good starting point, once you build your business and work up from there. You will also need to factor in travel, rental car, and lodging. Building your budget is a key factor to figuring out how many speaking engagements you will need per month. For example, if your speaking fee is $1,000 and your expenses are $5,000, then that lets you know you need 5 speeches per month. Get comfortable saying your fee. I know it can be uncomfortable saying it to a potential client but the more you say it to yourself the more comfortable it will be saying it to others. Try to always get on the phone, if you can, because you sell the value of what you do better on the phone than anyone else. If the client doesn’t have a budget you can also negotiate nonmonetary items such as testimonials, video, paid travel, extra tickets, etc. I’m super excited for you! It’s time to get to work and use this workbook so you can start building your speaking career. Schedule your time each day to go through the work. You must be intentional with your career and time because it won’t happen on its own. It will take a level of consistency and commitment. Remember your WHY because there will be good and bad times on your speaking journey. Best wishes!
