2015

Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27 in observance of the Tips for using My Senior Center: Thanksgiving  It is important that you scan in every time you are here. We have put in Holiday. many of the classes offered by the YMCA in addition to all the activities Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

offered by FiftyForward. Scan in at both the YMCA’s and FiftyForward’s scan computers. Make sure your card has been added to your existing record. If you get an “Oops! We couldn’t find you” message, check with a staff person. You probably just need your card added to your record in our system. It is an easy fix. Activities are listed chronologically. If your class is in the early morning, it should appear on the first page. If it is late morning or midday, it should appear on the second or third page. Remain patient as we continue to learn how to best use the system. We are still learning our way around it, too. Please DO NOT skip scanning in with FiftyForward. We need to know the information gathered by the system so we can continue to offer the programs and activities you want the most. Thank you for your continued patience!

The Turner Center  will also be closed on Thursday, December 24, Friday, December 25 and Monday, Life December 28 in observance of the Coaching Christmas Holiday. Have a safe and Merry Christmas!

Please check with a YMCA staff person for YMCA holiday hours.

N O VEM BE R N EW S LE T TE R

Hello FiftyForward Members: Can you believe that it is November? Hasn’t this weather been so gorgeous! Fall is absolutely my favorite time of the year! We have many exciting events planned for November. I must admit it was hard to get motivated to work so hard to plan them, since we had to cancel more events so far in October than have ever been canceled before in the history of this Center. All the events that were canceled had to be done because of lack of interest. So, this brings up two areas that I feel need to be addressed: 1. We MUST HAVE your input into the kinds of activities that you are interested in, and would participate in if we offered them. You have three ways to make those suggestions known to us: 1) You can use the suggestion box which is located on the upper shelf of the rack where you find the coffee; 2) You can email any one of the Turner Center Staff members with your ideas (email addresses on back page) and/or 3) you can attend a SPECIAL CALLED MEETING to be held immediately following the free Thanksgiving Luncheon Wednesday, November 18th. 2. We must make it clear that YOU MUST REGISTER for any event that the Turner Center is hosting that you plan to attend. If a fee is being charged for the event, you must pay that fee in advance and then register to attend in order to participate. We review the sign-up sheets to see how many people have signed up to attend in order to make decisions about cancelling events. If you are not in the Center often, you can register to participate in events by emailing any of the three Turner Center staff members (email addresses on back page).

I also must stress to you again that it is VITAL that you sign in at the My Senior Center (MSC) kiosk every single time that you come in to the Turner Center to participate in anything! PLEASE make this a very high priority! And, please make sure you sign-in for every event that you are going to participate in each day. Also, when you come to the Turner Center to go on a trip with On the Road with Joan, or to go on one of the trips that we schedule out of the Turner Center, please come down to the MSC Kiosk and sign in that you participated in that trip. This record-keeping system is vital for us in order to keep our partnership with the Bellevue YMCA and to keep funding for our Center coming, and to make sure we offer opportunities that you enjoy the most. Please look over all the wonderful opportunities that we will be providing for you in November and seriously consider participating in many of them! Here’s to your health, wellbeing and lifelong learning! -Susan

The FiftyForward RSVP Program will be holding its 3rd Annual Gift & Toy Drive to benefit children of Nashville Veterans (through the Nashville Vet Center). Be on the lookout for large bins in the Turner Center lobby from November 9—December 7 available for your gift and toy donations. On December 8, join us for a trip to FiftyForward Knowles for a gift wrapping party. Free lunch provided! More details coming soon...
