Letter from the Office Assistant... I had no idea how many programs and events happen at this center when I came on board at the end of August. I enjoy all the activities, but I love the people even more. New friends, new experiences, and a whole new world to explore here at Fifty Forward. I was thrilled to be part of the first-ever Evening in Old Hollywood fundraiser in September—such an elegantly dressed company and so different from the way we all dress for exercise classes! (Smile.) October was filled with new adventures: a Caribbean Cruise with the Retro Rhythms, pumpkin painting, the annual chili cookoff, plus presentations, music, movies, and events that bring laughter and create happy memories. Thomas Merton said, “There is no way of telling people that they are walking around shining like the sun.” I feel that way when I see the faces of our members. You really do shine. It will be my first Thanksgiving celebration with you all, and I’m looking forward to all the activities we’ll be sharing in November. I’m grateful to be part of the wonderful community here at the FiftyForward J.L. Turner Center. Sincerely,

Letter from the Director… It’s very hard to believe that 2018 is drawing ever closer to a close, and we are in the holiday season. Wasn’t it just New Year’s? But what an incredible year it has been thus far at the Turner Center. We have had more programs and participation than ever before, had brand new art classes and two successful art shows from them, our Brain Brawlers won the District Championship for the 2nd year in a row, we’ve had incredible performances from the Retro Rhythms, had dozens of speakers and presentations and traveled all over middle TN; from the Capitol Building to a rural BBQ shack. We also had our first ever benefit gala, An Evening in Old Hollywood last month, and it was a big success! Over 100 members, supporters, and community leaders gathered at the Martin Center in Brentwood for a wonderful night of music, dancing, great food, red-carpet fashion, and fun! This evening was only possible due to the hard work of dozens of volunteers as well as the center staff, and of course our sponsors like Edward Jones Financial, and the over 3 dozen donors to our Silent Auction. So thank you to all who helped and came out and had a great time. And stay tuned! Details for next year’s “An Evening In…” will be coming sooner than you think. Starting with another vote for the event theme. And we still aren’t finished with 2018! We have a lot of fun stuff coming up this month, including our annual Thanksgiving lunch, our time to gather as a community and give thanks for each other and all the wonderful times we’ve had together in the last year, I hope to see you there, and remember space is limited. It’s crazy to think that the holiday season is upon us, and we’re excited to celebrate with you! We’ll kick off the season by hosting our annual Thanksgiving meal. November is the perfect month to express our immense gratitude for you so this is a great way to do just that. So let us celebrate with you with music, good company, and a delicious catered meal by member, Jeannie Horde. We are able to open this up to 60 members so be sure to stop in and sign up fast so you can spend the holiday with us! In addition to all the fun things we have happening at the Center we also have some exciting trips planned. We will be heading back to the Frist for the second of three Food For Thought lectures on their Do Ho Suh: Specimens exhibit. We will also be heading to the Knowles Center to join in on one of their Monday music & lunch shows featuring the ALIAS Chamber Ensemble and enjoy a delicious catered meal. I am also excited to be heading to the Tennessee State Museum to check out their brand new space and afterwards heading over the Nashville Farmer’s Market. I have so much fun planning our monthly schedule and events. I am so grateful for all you for your willingness to participate and expand your horizons. Friday Flicks Mama Mia: Here We Go Again Friday, November 30th at 12:30pm Free Popcorn and Drinks In 1979 young Donna, Tanya and Rosie graduate from Oxford University— leaving Donna free to embark on a series of adventures throughout Europe. On her journeys, she makes the acquaintances of Harry, Bill and Sam— the latter whom she falls in love with, but he's also the man who breaks her heart. In the present day, Donna's pregnant daughter, Sophie, dreams of renovating a taverna while reuniting with her mother's old friends and boyfriends on the Greek island of Kalokairi.

Metro Police will be here collecting and going through the process of packaging and shipping these drugs to a company to be disposed of properly. This event will provide the opportunity for safe disposal, and provide education on safe disposal at home, secure drug drop boxes in our community, and educate on the dangers of leaving medications out in the household especially when children are present.
