We turned the Turner Center into our own art exhibit to feature the artwork from our “Painting from Nature” 8-week-art course. This was made possible by the Charlotte Branstetter Memorial Fund. Members of the Branstetter family joined us along with members of the FiftyForward executive leadership team.

Thanks to our partnership with the Frist we had the incredible opportunity to have members participate in the live performance of Nick Cave Feat. Nashville. Our beaded blankets that we have been working on since January were also featured in the performance. Participants got to attend the dress rehearsals, cast party, and get a behind-the-scenes look at the production. We are incredibly proud of all of the hard work and effort that was put into this performance and the creation of the blankets. BIG thanks to everyone involved.
For April’s service project we painted flower pots & potted flowers for the patients of Middle TN Hospice Center. We had a fun afternoon and the staff at Hospice was thrilled we thought of them for this project.

Letter from the Director… What an incredible and exciting month April was. I have so many people I’d like to thank and mention for some incredible happenings last month. First and foremost, all of our volunteers, who we couldn’t do what we do without. April was volunteer appreciation month, and featured our annual Appreciation Lunch. I appreciate and love our volunteers every day for their dedication and passion for our community. Also a thank you to all the artists who participated in our Paintings from Nature series. We had some truly wonderful works, and I was thrilled we got to display them with pride at our Artists’ Reception. I also need to thank our incredible instructor, Kim Lane, as well as the family of Charlotte Branstetter, as the memorial art fund for Turner in her name made this project possible.
Speaking of artists, a thank you to all who participated, in only for a few minutes in the lobby, in Blanket Statement, creating the beaded blankets for the Frist Art Museum’s live performance of Nick Cave: FEAT. at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. A special thank you to our core group; Pat Armstrong, Carol Gibbons, Molly Heber, Trish Kittrell, Rene Joy, and Program Director Nikki Plotts. It was such a fun group to get to know better through the process of making the blankets, and we all had an incredible time at the live show. Letter from the Program Director… Happy May! Let’s hope all the April showers really do lead to May flowers. There is so much to look forward to this month so I hope you all are excited! I am really looking forward to once again having a snack drive to benefit the children of the East Nashville Hope Exchange. Their mission is to strengthen the literacy of at-risk children in East Nashville. Every year they put on a summer program which offers intensive reading enrichment and community building through an integrated, thematic curriculum. They also offer a program during the school year which are designed to help family members support their child in reaching grade-level reading skills on a long-term basis. I could not be more excited to support this organization and their mission! So if you can- please bring in some snacks to support this amazing group. A list of suggested snacks and more information on their organization is posted in the lobby near the donation bin. In addition, we will also be having a couple big events this month. We are partnering with the YMCA AOA to put on an afternoon of Line Dance & BBQ. Chance from the Wildhorse Saloon will be here to teach some fun new line dancing choreography- so come join us for a fun afternoon! Secondly, we will be having our annual Mother’s Day Tea. Come celebrate Mother’s Day early with us, and enjoy some tea and pastries. We also have plenty going on at the Center this month including the Medicare Presentation, , Girl Scout Technology Class, Eat Well Nashville Lunch & Learn, and much more!

Friday, May 25, 2018 at 9:00 am – SPECIAL MEMORIAL DAY CONCERT – Les Kerr, songwriter, recording artist, performer, and Bellevue resident will present a program of music and storytelling based on his original songs. Focusing on the Gulf Coast, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee and other areas the singer knows well, Les weaves music and stories into an entertaining show. Known for his entertaining presentations, Les brings blues, Rockabilly, New Orleans music and bluegrass together to create his “Hillbilly Blues Caribbean Rock & Roll.” His upbeat shows involve music and humor. Now based in Nashville, Les was born in Louisiana and raised in Mississippi in the Gulf Coast city of Pascagoula and in Jackson.

Turner Center Snack Drive
Writer’s Club Member & writer, Les Wuescher, leads the class through poetry, storytelling, short stories, playwriting, and more to foster a community of writers, encourage you to expand your knowledge and develop your creativity. Whether you prefer to write with a keyboard or with a pen, about fact or fiction, or if you’re a professional or novice this group has something for you. The group meets every Thursday in the Conference Room at 11:30am.
For the remainder of April & May we will be collecting snack items in support of the East Nashville Hope Exchange (ENHE). ENHE is a nonprofit organization that seeks to strengthen the literacy of at-risk children in East Nashville. Each year they host a summer program to help further students’ education and to provide meals/snacks to children and families. Join us as we support their mission by donating a snack item. For more information and a list of snack suggestions, check out the information posted in the Turner lobby.
