We had a great group for our volunteer opportunity at Thistle Farms. We did a variety of different behind-the-scenes tasks to assist efforts in their manufacturing plant.

Letter from the Office Assistant… We must not allow the clock and the calendar to blind us to the fact that each moment of life is a miracle and a mystery. H. G. Wells There is so much beauty and wonder in the world around us. Yet we often forget to see and value the bounties life has spread before us. We get caught up in the concerns of daily life and miss the wonder as we rush by. One of the greatest gifts of working at this center is to get to know people who are willing to take time, stop to smell the roses, and remember that life is not a problem to be solved, but a mystery to explore. Today is a good day to value life, just as it presents itself to you. Open your eyes. Open your heart. Go outside and enjoy the weather. Rain or shine, the blessings fall on everyone. Some of the greatest blessings are our amazing members who truly know how to savor life. Center trips and events offer a variety of ways to celebrate the moments and the changing seasons. This month continues the season of spring magic with many opportunities for fun and friendship. You can get out on the trails with friends or join in potluck and game fun here at the center with Bunco and Bingo (yes, Lucky Lunches are back!). Visit the past at historic Rippavilla plantation or join Nikki to brainstorm options for future programming and trips. Celebrate Mother’s Day with tea and delicious treats or create a visual world with a new art project. And that’s only a small portion of the activities available in May that contain the potential for moments of miracle, mystery, and good fun for all.

Sincerely, Candy Paull Office Manager, FiftyForward J.L. Turner Center

Big thank you to our sponsor, Cigna Healthspring, for their continuous support of the Turner Center!

In-Center Event Reminder Please check your schedule prior to signing up for events, or be sure to cross your name off of the list if you find you are unable to attend. If you do plan to attend— sign up! This is the only way we are able to prepare for the day of events or get ahold of you if there is a schedule change.

Thank you for your cooperation!

We want to thank everyone who has generously donated plastic bags to help our homeless mats service project. At this time we have reached our allotted amount of space to hold bags so we are no longer accepting donations. Again, we appreciate everyone’s generosity and we will be sure to let you know once we have worked through our current inventory.

Thank you to Edward Jones for being an Executive Level Sponsor at our Fundraiser and for their support of the Turner Center.

Letter from the Program Director… Happy May! There is so much to look forward to this month so I hope you all are excited for beautiful spring in Nashville. I am looking forward to the snack drive to benefit the children of the East Nashville Hope Exchange for the 3rd year in a row. Their mission is to strengthen the literacy of at-risk children in East Nashville. Every year they put on a summer program which offers intensive reading enrichment and community building through an integrated, thematic curriculum. They also offer a program during the school year which are designed to help family members support their child in reaching grade-level reading skills on a long-term basis. I could not be more excited to support this organization and their mission! So if you can—please bring in some snacks to support this amazing group. A list of suggested snacks and more information on their organization is posted in the lobby near the donation bin. I’m very excited about the possibility of starting a programming board to give you the opportunity to bounce ideas off of each other & me, and to get your voices and opinions heard! Join me on Monday, May 6th for a preliminary meeting. From there we will decide future meeting times. I am so thankful for everyone’s patience while we have been short staffed. It is always amazing how you all (especially our amazing volunteers) step up and help us out. Just know we’re doing the very best we can to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Thank you, Nikki Plotts Program Director, FiftyForward J.L. Turner Center
