Big thank you to the volunteers at Proverbs 12:10 Animal Shelter for coming out and speaking to us about their animal foster process, and bringing some cute furry friends along with them. We had a fun afternoon exploring at the Noble Goat Farm in Franklin. We learned how goat cheese was made, met a few of their 200+ goats, and tasted a variety of different goat cheese products.

Day Trip Pricing Announcement Due to rising costs, particularly parking prices, some trips may have higher van ride costs ($7-$9 from the standard $6) starting July 1st. This will mostly affect Downtown tips.

Letter from the Director… I’m very excited this month to give you all more details on our first benefit/major fundraiser in support of the Turner Center. It is our hope to have a wonderful, high-end, signature event to raise awareness and funds for the amazing programming we have here at Turner. On Friday, September 28th, we will hold “An Evening in Old Hollywood” at the FiftyForward Martin Center in Brentwood. This celebration of the “Golden Age” of Hollywood will feature a delicious catered dinner, live music from the era, a dance floor, a silent auction, and more! One of the things I’m most excited about is our red carpet photo booth. We’ll have a professional photographer on site with a green screen backdrop who will offer free, printed on the spot glamour shots of every guest. He’ll have props, and a custom created background for a one-of-a-kind souvenir for the night! Save the date, tell your friends, and keep your eyes peeled as we are hoping to start ticket sales later this month. Tickets will be limited, so don’t delay once they are available. A general event ticket will be $75, but Turner Center members will be able to attend for the discounted price of $50. The price hasn’t been finalized yet, but we also offer further discounts for those that buy whole tables, so you can pool together with friends. We will also be offering a FREE shuttle from the center to the event and back for Turner members. Sponsorships are available and we are looking for new, high quality items to be donated for our Silent Auction. Letter from the Program Director… Happy July! It is crazy to think that we are already in the second half of 2018. June has been busy with exciting trips and programming, but I can’t wait to dive into everything we have planned for July! We hope you are able to make it to our Independence Day Cookout on Tuesday, July 3rd at 11:30am. Travis from i2 Agency will be our sponsor for the event as well as behind the grill at the event cooking delicious burgers and hotdogs. We will also be holding a dessert contest and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will receive prizes. Come celebrate our freedom with your FiftyForward friends.
In addition to this we also have exciting day trips planned. We are excited to head back to the Bluebird for their senior show and to another exciting Music For Seniors show at Cheekwood. After the concert, Cheekwood has generously allowed us to tour their grounds at no charge so be sure to come and take advantage of that offer. We will also be heading to the Lane Motor Museum to see over 150 unique cars and motorcycles, and to the Tennessee State Capitol building for a guided tour of the building. Lastly, we will head downtown for a fun class at the Goo Goo Cluster store to learn how to make the candies and other treats to take home. We also have another exciting month of art classes with instructor Kim Lane. Once again, we will be holding two classes to accommodate more students. This month will be mixed media summer watercolor flowers. Be sure to sign up quickly, these classes always fill!

The accident results in the death of passenger Mary Jo Kopechne, a 28-year-old campaign strategist who worked for Kennedy. The ongoing investigation into the mysterious and scandalous events forever alters his political legacy—and ultimately changes the course of presidential history.

July Art Classes
Brenda Butler
In this month’s art classes we will be creating a gorgeous summer scene with liquid watercolor, a variety of brushes, sharpies and fine liners—you’ll learn how to use free form color and imaginative floral design to create some eye-catching images.
Brenda has been volunteering as one of our ambassadors at the Turner Center for almost four years. In addition to her work here she also serves in the Volunteer Office at the Nashville Symphony, is a member of the board for The Cloister at St. Henry Owners Association where she serves as Communications Chair, and is a member of the Turner Center Advisory Council. In addition to her volunteer work she is the mom of three marvelous children, Grandma Brenda to six beautiful grandchildren, and grandma to grand-dog Cheddar and grand-cat Lizzie. Fun fact about Brenda: as a left hander she plays ukulele upside-down and strums upwards. You can find her here on Friday mornings—be sure to stop by and say hello and introduce yourself!
