New Center Director lands on July 1st Three words probably best summarize our new Center Director, Susan Dillingham – Faith, Family and Friends. Susan has a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and a M.A. in Education from Austin Peay State University. She is the mother of two highly accomplished sons, Griff and Ross Lucas, and the grandmother to four amazing grandchildren – Frank, Teddy, Kate and H.R. Susan has long been a child/youth advocate with positions ranging from high school teacher to youth development trainer and consultant. She is a long-time community
activist and coalition organizer who is very strengths-based in her work. She leads a Ministry, called Designed to Flourish, that serves those who are marginalized because of poverty, abuse, neglect, abandonment or divorce, and seeks to help individuals know their value – their strengths and passions, set and meet goals around their strengths, and self-activate the supports they need to flourish. One of the arms of that Ministry is SHIELD, which serves singles who are 50 and forward. We will have a Meet & Greet with Susan on Wednesday, July 8th at 10:30a.m. Come by and say hi!
The Turner Center is abuzz with Art! The FiftyForward J. L. Turner Center has been buzzing with various art related activities and events for the past year! We have offered some unique classes—photo transfers, portrait workshops and encaustic painting—to name just a few. We also had the opportunity to participate in the Frist Community Partner Art Show this summer. Twelve members of the Turner Center had artwork hanging on the walls of the Frist— What an honor! Looking forward, we are planning acrylic painting classes and drawing classes, and we are always looking for suggestions on how to expand our art offerings. Got an art technique you want to try? Let us know!
