Letter from the Director Dear Turner Center Members, We hope that 2014 is starting out to be a great year for you! I wanted to make sure that our members were aware of the FiftyForward Inclement Weather Policy: On days when Metro Nashville Public Schools are closed due to inclement weather, the J. L Turner Center will open at 10 a.m. and all classes and trips will be canceled. If MNPS is already scheduled to be out on a day due to inclement weather, FiftyForward will post to Snowbird by 6 a.m. our opening status. As always, if Tennessee State offices are closed all FiftyForward centers/ offices will remain closed. Please call the Bellevue Family YMCA regarding whether SilverSneakers classes will be held. Fondly, Megan
Did you know that heart disease kills more women than all types of cancer combined? Don your favorite RED outfit and join us on Friday, February 7th at 1:00p.m. The Turner Center will host a Go Red for women event where you can have your heart health questions answered by a cardiologist, try some heart-healthy
snacks, have your blood pressure and blood glucose checked with a Kroger Pharmacist, and join in support of women’s heart health. At the event, we will have a drawing for tickets to this year’s Southern Women’s Show held at the beautiful new Music City Center in March.

Question for February: "Who can I call if I need a ride to the doctor?" Great question - when we can no longer drive, our world can get smaller while our worries, about how we will get where we need to go, get larger. First, check with neighbors, friends, your church, and
other groups to which you belong. You never know until you ask if any of these supports in your life can help with rides. A popular low-cost option in Nashville is the Metropolitan Transit Authority's (MTA) Access Ride program for people who cannot use regular bus routes. Call (615) 880-3970 for the paperwork for you and your doctor to complete. Numerous companies charge fees to drive to appointments. For more information, call FiftyForward's Living at Home program at (615) 743-3416.
