Letter from the Director

August 2015

My Senior Center Kiosk

Hello Everyone! It is my honor and privilege to be here to serve you and meet your needs. I want to start by thanking each of you for continuing to use and support the J. L. Turner Center in this time of transition to a new Director. I also want to take this opportunity to thank Nicole Longuevan and Candace Jones for so competently keeping this Center running smoothly during this time of transition. There are some changes coming to the Center under my leadership. I am always open to your comments and concerns about anything that surrounds its operation. I ask for your full participation in any needs assessment surveys or focus groups, that I may institute. I will do these things in order to more fully understand and attempt to meet your needs. We are going to be offering more comprehensive programming each day at the Center, and are going to offer much more programming for the Baby Boomers and other active older adults who still work. Therefore, you will begin to see our hours of operation expanding as we move forward. I thank you for making me feel so welcome! I look forward to getting to know each of you and providing many opportunities for you to enjoy! Sincerely, Susan Dillingham

At long last, My Senior Center is here! “ What” you may ask, “is My Senior Center?” Much like the YMCA’s scan card program, My Senior Center is FiftyForward’s record keeping system. My Senior Center gives us the ability to see the programs, events and activities you like, and those that you may not be so thrilled about, by showing us what you are attending. You will use your YMCA scan card at the My Senior Center kiosk (get used to hearing that word) and the touch screen that is a part of the system. We will have volunteers and staff stationed at the kiosk to help you adjust to the new system.

The most important detail is this: PLEASE scan your Y card at the My Senior Center kiosk EVERY TIME you are here. This is the best way for us to have the most accurate information available when we apply for grant funding and other sources of funding AND to know which programs you are attending. We at FiftyForward & the J. L. Turner Center are working to improve our services and keep you active and healthy for as long as possible. My Senior Center goes live on Monday, My Senior Center kiosk August 10th!
