Letter from the Office Assistant… You'll never do a whole lot unless you're brave enough to try. Dolly Parton Sometimes I am amazed by the rare courage I see in members here at the center. Oh, they don’t think of themselves as heroic or courageous, but I see it in the choices they make and the chances they take. It is an act of courage to practice the art of saying “yes” and opening heart and mind to more expansive living. Our members look at the monthly newsletter and are brave enough try something new and sign up to go where they have never gone before. Choosing to say “yes” to life seems to be a specialty of our most active and vital members. They are the first ones to sign up to take a trip to a different destination or to try a new restaurant and see what’s cooking, or to move with the energy of a group learning a new exercise routine or artistic skill. April offers many opportunities to challenge your personal status quo and stretch your boundaries. Take a trip to the Frist Museum to discover how Van Gogh, Degas, and Monet stretched the boundaries of the art world. Join the Foodies to explore new taste sensations at local restaurants. Come to the History Group/Metro Archives presentation to learn lessons from the life of John Sevier, Tennessee’s first hero. It’s spring and time to take your own bold step forward and participate in something that makes your heart sing with the delight of discovery.
Sincerely, Candy Paull Office Manager, FiftyForward J.L. Turner Center
Big thank you to our sponsor, Cigna Healthspring, for their continuous support of the Turner Center!
In-Center Event Reminder Please check your schedule prior to signing up for events, or be sure to cross your name off of the list if you find you are unable to attend. If you do plan to attend— sign up! This is the only way we are able to prepare for the day of events or get ahold of you if there is a schedule change.
Thank you for your cooperation!
We want to thank everyone who has generously donated plastic bags to help our homeless mats service project. At this time we have reached our allotted amount of space to hold bags so we are no longer accepting donations. Again, we appreciate everyone’s generosity and we will be sure to let you know once we have worked through our current inventory.
Thank you to Edward Jones for being an Executive Level Sponsor at our Fundraiser and for their support of the Turner Center.

Letter from the Program Director… The weather is beginning to warm up and I can feel spring in the air! I am excited to start planning activities that get us outside soaking up this mild Tennessee weather. We have a lot to look forward to this month including and we get started early with a couple fun trips in the first two-weeks. We will start with a trip to the newly opened Nashville Food Project in the Nations for an afternoon volunteering in their prep kitchen. I have done this project many times and can attest that it is an extremely fun way to give back. Secondly, we will take the much-anticipated trip to the Bluebird Senior Show on Monday, April 8th. In addition to that we will be applying what we learn in our Art Trunk project by taking a trip to the Frist Art Museum for a docent-guided tour of their Dorothea Lange: Politics of Seeing exhibit. Lastly, we end the month with another annual trip to the Iris City Gardens where we can enjoy the beautiful grounds, enjoy a boxed lunch at their picnic area, and purchase flowers if you so wish. Please note– with trips that inclement weather play a role, we will give you a call the day before to let you know whether or not the trip is going or not unless the weather is unexpected the day of the trip. In this case you will receive full credit for the trip in which you can use on any other FiftyForward trip or event. In the time we are short staffed following our former director’s departure, we will be working hard to make the transition as smooth as possible. Please be patient with us, and be ensured that we are doing the very best we can as a small staff. We appreciate you all so much!
Thank you, Nikki Plotts Program Director, FiftyForward J.L. Turner Center
