The first time we crossed paths with fitness instructor Kelley Shannon — literally, in the lobby of our building — we found a whole lot more than an aerobics and yoga teacher. Kelley is also a certified Posture Alignment Specialist. At Nashville Neuromuscular Center, she uses posture therapy to help people reduce pain and restore movement. Beyond training and experience, Kelley brings a passion to her work. Through her fitness classes, or just in

conversation, it is apparent that Kelley’s ultimate goal is to help people. At Birthday Potluck this month, Kelley will speak to us about how Posture Therapy can help us reduce pain and restore movement. She will also lead us in a few exercises — but don’t worry, nothing strenuous after the meal! Join us on Wed., May 21. Lunch is at 11:30, and Kelley’s presentation will begin at noon. The Center provides the main course. Please bring a side dish.

We tip our hats to the Tennessee state flower this month with a trip to Iris City Gardens in Primm Springs. They grow more than 1,300 different plants, including over 900 iris, 250 daylilies and 130 peonies, as well as many other perennials. This should be a great springtime trip for anyone who loves flowers. We’ll stop in Leiper’s Fork for lunch after touring the gardens. The van will leave the Center at 9. Van fee is $8.

RED HAT SOCIETY ON “THE AVENUE” MAY 28 A day of shopping is in store for Red Hatters this month, when they head to The Avenue in Murfreesboro. It’s described as an “open-air, pedestrian-friendly shopping destination,” and features premiere national retailers, select local merchants and specialty restaurants. Wear your comfortable shoes and plan on a great day of walking, looking and lunching! The van will leave the Center at 9:30. Van fee will be $6.
