For the past 22 years, Mathews has been a fixture on the Nashville sports radio scene hosting the highly rated Big Orange Sunday and Football Sports Saturday shows. For the past 11 years, Mathews’ radio home has been the top–rated sports talk station in Nashville, 104.5 The Zone. Both shows also air on 1180 AM in Knoxville. Big Orange Sunday is a one–hour show heard every Sunday bringing the best analysis of University of Tennessee athletics. Football Saturday focuses on NCAA football with an emphasis on the Southeastern Conference each weekend for two hours. National media personalities, Tony Barnhart and Charles Davis, serve as weekly contributors on this fast–paced, highly rated program.

Discover and Explore Acrylic Techniques

Instructor: John Cannon 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month at 1:00.

Acrylic Painting Techniques. Learn how to use acrylic paints in a variety of styles. Techniques also include alternate surfaces and addition of mediums to acheive artistic effects. Instruction will also emphasize composition and values, as well as practical aspects of creating art. Cost: $30 per class or 2 classes for $50.

Oil Painting For All Thursday August 20 at 9:30 Instructor: Barbara Bays Join us for this four-week session to lear n new ideas, techniques and enjoy fellowship with fr iends.

Colorfy Your Mind App or Pencil, you decide

Wednesday, August 12 at 1:00 Instructor: Barbara Bays When coloring children intuitively know what to do: they easily choose a design they like and the colors they want to use. By the time we are adults, most of us have lost this spontaneity and often ask: what should I do?

Colorfy offers shades of childhood in coloring books for adults to promotes relaxation, attention, concentration, better management of stress and development of psychomotor skills. You can bring your I-Pad prior to class and download the free Colorfy app or enjoy the feel of a color pencil in your hand and a hard copy to color in front of you. Reservations required. Dragon Fly and Bumble Bee Batik Boutique Ink pen and watercolor

Bee: Wednesday, September 2 at 1:00 Instructor: Barbara Bays Batik is a technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to whole cloth, or cloth made using this technique. Use your pen and ink watercolor talents to incorporate rice paper and wax. When the wax is applied and removed revealing a beautiful and unique look. Cost: $16 supplies included for members.

Chocolate Tasting at Martin Thursday, September 3 at 1:00 Schakolad Chocolate Factory (pronounced shaq-oh-LAD) is one of the truly custom retail chocolate boutiques in the business. Their chocolates are "made fresh on premises" using a tried and true three-generation European style family recipe that calls for the highest quality ingredients and attention to design detail. Tasting will include chocolate tasting with historical overview and chocolate facts, milk or dark chocolate bar to decorate by hand with white chocolate and a 4 piece box of assorted chocolates for each attendee.

CPR: The Basics Thursday, August 20 at 10:00 Instructor: Mike McCutcheon, Lieutenant/Medic Medical Coordinator, Brentwood Fire and Rescue Gain the knowledge and skills necessary to provide life-saving measures during an emergency. This is an introduction class to the basics of CPR, use of an AED and what to do for choking victims. This class will be approximately 60-90 minutes in length and will be full of information. The firefighters from Brentwood Fire and Rescue will be conducting the class in a fun, informative and informal class setting.

From the cover of Time Magazine to news segments on the Today Show, Mindfulness is becoming an increasingly popular topic of conversation, but what is it? Simply put, Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to the present moment with a sense of openness, compassion, and curiosity. Through this presentation, attendees will learn more about the practice of Mindfulness and the profound benefits this deliberate attention can bring for one’s physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. Lipscomb University School of Nursing Clinical Simulation Laboratory Tour Thursday, August 13 at 9:30 The Health Simulation Lab features 19 computerized mannequins that can display symptoms of a range of illnesses and wounds in an authentic hospital-like setting. They are able to do high-fidelity simulations for our students, meaning they use interactive simulators that can respond to interventions and change their course of care. They can also videotape the entire scenario for analysis later. Faculty develop realistic clinical scenarios and advanced simulation manikins serve as “patients”. Simulation allows the student nurses to experience situations they may never experience during their regular clinical rotations. Cost: $8 includes door-to-door services with a CDL licensed driver, mini-bus and parking.

The Nashville Predators vs. Florida Panthers Senior Appreciation Day

Sunday, September 20 at 2:00 All retirees and senior citizens will receive a Club level ticket to the 3:30pm hockey game plus a free food voucher good for one free hot dog and one free non-alcoholic drink. FiftyFoward Martin Center Refund Policy Please read carefully Membership and interest in our programs and activities continue to increase. Many programs and trips require a minimum number to make it cost effective or to honor the time commitment for an instructor, a licensed driver or facilitator. When you sign up, you are making a commitment to the activity and are responsible for putting it on your calendar. Refunds or credits are not given for any activity, trip or event where there is a ticket, a reservation, or number of attendees that has to be committed in advance. All activities that require a reservation for a meal or materials provided will forfeit payment unless there is a waiting list and we can fill that vacancy with another member. Credits will be given only if the program is cancelled by the Center. Exceptions may be considered by the Center Director in extreme situations.

We also extend our gratitude to our many volunteers who made this event go off so beautifully, and for their dedication to our Center throughout the year.

They bring so much style, vibrancy, and warmth to our Center. Also, thank you for your

continued hard work supporting our Center with your spectacular, one-of-a-kind cards. *Thank you to our mighty Fluffettes for transforming our Center into a Magical place as we

celebrated our 10th Annual Music and Memories. The Center was exquisite with flowers,

candles and tables draped in buttercup yellow and seafoam green linens. Also, thank you for beautifying our potluck gatherings. *Thank you to our Kitchen Keepers for helping our potluck run so smoothly. We appreciate

your coordinating the dishes, setting up the drink service, and sharing your organizational skills with our Center.

*Thank you to Bill Salmon for his weekly maintenance duties. We appreciate your dedication and ongoing commitment to our Center. *Special Thanks to our Loyal Landscapers, David and Priscilla Lee and Tom Cullen, for power washing the Center and the back porch. Our Center sparkled for our Music and Memo-

ries event because of your hard work. We thank you for your dedication, even in the heat and humidity, to maintaining our lush, magnificent grounds. We are truly grateful.
