Martin Member Highlight: Judy Chilton Judy was born and raised in New Mexico where her family were three generation Cattle Ranchers. She married and raised two children on their ranch. Her husband Leonard was killed in an automobile accident in 1991. She remarried four years later to Lynn Chilton another rancher. Judy and Lynn were introduced to the Martin Center by their Realtor. They joined the activities and volunteering. Judy volunteered to teach a class in Iris paper folding making cards after learning the unique craft years ago. After the class became popular, the volunteer ladies decided to sell the cards they made. The venture has been wildly successful. In addition to the many things they have been able to purchase for the Martin Center, wonderful relationships, like sisters, are the “Card Crusaders”. Judy’s husband passed away last October, and the “sister” friends are even more important now.

Many of the elephants suffer long-term health and complex behavioral issues common to elephants that have spent their lives in captivity, such as tuberculosis, osteomyelitis, obesity, arthritis, and aggression. Because elephants have complex physical and social needs, successful outcomes are measured not only by the elephant’s physical health, but also their social, behavioral and psychological well-
