Get Movin’ At Martin NEW At Martin ~ Yoga on Mondays 2nd and 4th Monday April 11 and 25. May 9 and 23 at 10:30 Instructor: Barbara Johnson Yoga is for everyone. No matter what age you are or what condition you are in, you can experience the health benefits of yoga. Did you know you can perform most yoga postures, breathing techniques, meditation, and relaxation techniques from a chair? This form of yoga is very easy to do no matter what condition you are in.

Creative Wellness and Education Discover and Explore Acrylic Techniques

Instructor: John Cannon 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month at 1:00.

Acrylic Painting Techniques. Learn how to use acrylic paints in a variety of styles. Techniques also include alternate surfaces and addition of mediums to achieve artistic effects. Instruction will also emphasize composition and values, as well as practical aspects of creating art.

Cost: $30 per class or 2 consecutive classes for $50. April 11 and 25. May 9 and 23.

Oil Painting For All Thursdays, at 9:30 Instructor: Barbara Bays Join us for this four week session to learn new ideas, techniques and enjoy fellowship with friends.

Wednesday, April 20 at 1:15 Instructor: Barbara Bays Drawing and painting with pen and ink with watercolor will give you confidence in drawing like no other medium can. Trips and Tours Miller’s Grocery Christiana, TN

Wednesday, April 6 at 9:45 Miller’s Grocery was in continuous operation as a country store for more than 75 years in the once bustling whistle-stop community of Christiana, TN that included a 3-story hotel, a bank, a telephone office and some 15 other businesses. In 1995, the building was restored as an antique filled, country cafe featuring home-style Southern cooking and award winning “from scratch” desserts. The name “Miller’s Grocery” remains in memory of long-time proprietor Mr. Stanley Miller and as a tribute to a by-gone era. Shiloh Battlefield Guided Bus Tour Tuesday, April 12 at 8:45 Join us as we travel in comfort to the Shiloh battlefield for a guided bus tour. This unique experience will be led by our tour guide and civil war re-enactor Cliff Coss who currently gives battlefield tours at The Carter House in Franklin, TN. Shiloh is one of the nation's oldest and best preserved battlefield parks. In the late 1890s, returning veterans used more than 150 monuments, 200 cannon, and 650 historic tablets to "suitably mark" the 4,000 acre site of their most important engagement. Overlooking Pittsburg Landing on the west bank of the Tennessee River, Shiloh was the scene of the first major battle in the Western theater.

The April 6 and 7, 1862 Battle of Shiloh involved about 65,000 Union and 44,000 Confederate troops, and resulted in nearly 24,000 casualties. Shiloh proved to be a decisive victory for federal forces, enabling their advance on the important railroad junction at Corinth, Mississippi, one month later. Reservations required. Junk Yard Dog and Elephant Sanctuary Wednesday, April 27 at 9:45 The Junkyard Dog Restaurant in downtown Hohenwald serves great food in an eclectic yet cozy atmosphere The Junkyard offers top quality steaks, seafood and signature dishes. The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee is the nation's largest natural habitat refuge for endangered African and Asian elephants. Many of these beautiful animals were mistreated as circus animals and endured great cruelty.

The sanctuary will open their doors for us for a tour. While we will not be able walk with the elephants or talk to the elephants, thanks to the advances in technology with their Elecams, we may be able to see the elephants in their natural habitat.

Bingo at Martin Tuesday, April 19 and May 17 at 1:15 Bingo will be held after our monthly potluck luncheon. If you wish to play, please bring a $5 gift card of your choice. Each player will receive two cards and we will have prizes for the winner of each game. In the event that more than one person bingos, we will draw cards to determine who will receive the prize for that game. We are just getting this organized so please be patient with us as we feel our way and anticipate a fun-filled afternoon for all involved. Friday, April 8 at 1:00 Easter Parade (1948) Comedy/ musical/ Romance

Easter Parade is a 1948 American musical film starring Judy Garland, Fred Astaire, Ann Miller and Peter Lawford.

Featuring music by Irving Berlin, including some of Astaire and Garland's best-known songs, such as "Easter Parade",and "Steppin' Out with My Baby. In this lavish musical, Broadway star Don Hewes' (Fred Astaire) dancing partner (Ann Miller) goes solo, and Don declares that he can make a hit performer out of the next dancer he sees. This turns out to be the inexperienced Hannah (Judy Garland), who bristles as Don tries to make her into his old partner.

Friday, April 22 at 1:00 The Long, Long Trailer (1953) Actors: Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Marjorie Main Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz take a road trip in a car with a long, long trailer. As they travel across the United States, everything that can go wrong does go hysterically wrong as they try to celebrate their honeymoon on the road. An overloaded trailer, an isolated mountain road and a judge who hates trailers all add up to a very, very funny movie.

Honey Bees are called social animals because they live in colonies and rely on each other. Two local beekeepers have invited us to their home to be their guest at their bee hives. This is a unique opportunity for you to experience a one-on-one demonstration and a bee experience that is not open to the public. You will want to “b” there.

First, we will have lunch at Sportsman’s Grille and then the Bee experience at 12:30. Limited seating.
