Get Movin’ At Martin NEW At Martin ~ Yoga on Wednesdays Each Wednesday at 10:30 Instructor: Bar bar a J ohnson Yoga is for everyone. No matter what age you are or what condition you are in, you can experience the health benefits of yoga. Did you know you can perform most yoga postures, breathing techniques, meditation, and relaxation techniques from a chair? This form of yoga is very easy to do no matter what condition you are in.

Creative Wellness and Education Discover and Explore Acrylic Techniques

Instructor: John Cannon 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month at 1:00.

Acrylic Painting Techniques. Learn how to use acrylic paints in a variety of styles. Techniques also include alternate surfaces and addition of mediums to achieve artistic effects. Instruction will also emphasize composition and values, as well as practical aspects of creating art.

Tuesday, July 19 at 11:30 Guest Speaker: Mike Keith “The Voice of the Titans” Martin Center Potluck with guest Mike Keith “The Voice of the Titans” Mike Keith, is in his 19th season with the Tennessee Titans in 2016. From 1987-1998, Keith held posts with the Vol Radio Network, WIVK Radio and WBIR-TV in Knoxville. Then, the call came from Nashville to join the Mid-south’s new NFL team. Keith jumped at the new challenge to be “The Voice of the Titans”. Keith was quickly recognized as one of the NFL’s most exciting announcers. In January of 2000, Keith called one of the greatest plays in NFL history, “The Music City Miracle,” a last-second touchdown that gave the Titans an improbable playoff win over Buffalo. ESPN named Keith’s description of the play as one of the 10 best radio calls in American sports history. Thursday, June 9 at 10:00 In December 2010, the City of Brentwood acquired 320 acres of the historic Ravenswood Farm property on Wilson Pike from the family of the late Marcella and Reese Smith for development as a park. Another 80 acres was acquired in late 2013 as an option from the 2010 purchase. The park, known as the Marcella Vivrette Smith Park, officially opened to the public on November 8, 2014 and is the largest park in Brentwood. With forested wildlife habitats in their natural state and hiking trails for outdoor enthusiasts, the land adds a new feature to the City’s comprehensive park system. The property also includes the historic Ravenswood mansion. Ravenswood was built in 1825 by James Hazard Wilson II. Metro Crime Lab Tour Thursday, July 14 at 3:00 Come joins us for a look inside the Metro Crime Lab. We will begin the tour with a short Q & A Session followed by a tour of the facility. Established in a blue collar neighborhood in the early 1950s, they are 20 plus years into the 3rd generation of the family with the 4th in training now on the dish machine and bussing tables. McCabe’s Pub Wednesday, July 20 at 3:00 McCabe Pub has proudly been serving Nashville in the Sylvan Park Neighborhood since 1982. They are the original Neighborhood bar and restaurant in Nashville. Chaffin’s Barn Route 66 Thursday, July 21 at 10:15 It's 1969, and one of the Midwest's premier groups, "The Chicago Avenue Band", is about to embark on a journey down Route 66.Take a dollop of Grease, mix in some Pump Boys & Dinettes and add a generous dose of Forever Plaid, and you've got the high-octane fun of Route 66. Beginning with the sounds of 1950s Chicago then traveling along the Main Street of America to the California coast to surf music of the 1960s. Bingo at Martin Programming note: No Bingo in June

Tuesday, July 19 at 1:15 Bingo will be held after our monthly potluck luncheon. If you wish to play, please bring a $5 gift card of your choice. Each player will receive two cards and we will have prizes for the winner of each game. In the event that more than one person bingos, we will draw cards to determine who will receive the prize for that game. We are just getting this organized so please be patient with us as we feel our way and anticipate a fun-filled afternoon for all involved. Friday, July 8 at 1:00 Mona Lisa Smile (2003) Drama Katherine Ann Watson( Julia Roberts) has accepted a position teaching art history at the prestigious Wellesley College. Watson is a very modern woman, particularly for the 1950s, and has a passion not only for art but for her students. For the most part, the students all seem to be biding their time, waiting to find the right man to marry. The students are all very bright and Watson feels they are not reaching their potential.

Ryan Perry, member of Troop 86 with the East Brentwood Presbyterian Church, choose FiftyForward Martin Center for his Eagle Scout project. A big thank you to Ryan who designed the planters and organized a team to acquire the materials for construction of the beds for us to enjoy. The beautiful beds are located at the end of the building past the rose gardens. We would also like to thank Courtney Durbin with Elliott Davis Decosimo for organizing volunteers to help plant tomatoes, peppers, basil and more for our enjoyment.
