Get Movin’ At Martin Mat Pilates & Core Stability Mondays 9:15 –10:15 Instructor: Sara Wilson Pilates improves flexibility, builds strength and develops control and endurance in the entire body. By putting emphasis on alignment, breathing and developing a strong core (the muscles of the abdomen, back, and hips) Pilates can improve coordination and balance. Cost: Members $5. Non-Members $10. Dynamic Physical Therapy Tuesdays at 1:00pm Instructor: Dr. Lauren Simpson, PT, DPT Have fun with doctor Simpson learning and practicing the benefits of physical therapy. Each Tuesday participants will learn; balance rehab, fall prevention and treatment, incontinence rehab, before and after knee and hip surgery, generalized weakness and deconditioning. Total Fitness Class with Jenny Z Wednesdays 9:15—10:15 Instructor: Jenny Z Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, flexibility, range of movement, balance and activities for daily living. Walking Path Brentwood Walking Trail is available off the back patio. Brentwood’s city trails provide a great place to walk, run or bike. The trails connect citizens to other facilities including the Concord Road YMCA, Williamson Sports Complex, and the Martin Center.

Mud Puddle Pottery Creators Sessions Join us for some creativity and fun every Friday August 4th— August 24th. Mud Puddle Pottery specializes in pottery classes for adults and youth, offering instruction in pottery wheel, hand building and sculpting in clay. In addition to classes, Mud Puddle Pottery is the source for Laguna clay, pottery wheels, kilns, pottery tools, bats, glazes and so much more! Come explore your creative side with Artist, Melissa Hancock as she guides you, step-by-step, to paint your own masterpiece in acrylic paints. It’s easy and fun!! Everyone will paint the same subject, but everyone’s painting will be totally unique. The supplies are all provided, along with some great inspiration. Mud Puddle Pottery: Clay Jewelry Friday (August 24th) 1:00pm-3:00pm Cost $15.00 * Registration Required In this class, participants will create textured pendants in a professional self hardeningair dry clay. They will then apply layers of finish and metallic paints to create rich, colorful and vibrant pieces that we will mount on polished leather collars with clasps. LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY FiftyForward Martin Center Advisory Board has three member vacancies open. The board serves as a representative body for the general membership. It is comprised of twelve individuals, nine community business leaders and three current memberships from the center. The board meets the third Monday of every month at 4:30p.m. If you have interest serving please see Joyce Keistler for a candidate interest form. Forms must be turned into Joyce no later than August 10th. Candidates will be presented by the nomination committee to the board, reviewed and voted on at the next Advisory board meeting, August 20th.

Lunch at Elliston Soda Shop/Cool Springs Monday, August 27 Carpool meet at Martin Center at 10:30am Yes it is, now here in Cool Springs. As Nashville’s oldest continuously operating restaurant in its original location, Elliston Place Soda Shop holds a special place in the local restaurant community. The street was named for the Elliston family who originally owned most of the property along the present day Elliston Place corridor. It has been a prime location for shops since the early 1900s. The building at 2111 Elliston Place that houses the Soda Shop was originally opened as a grocery. The grocery eventually became a pharmacy in the 1920s. In 1939 Lynn Chandler redesigned part of the pharmacy to open the Soda Shop. Our drug store neighbor remained until 1965. *Registration required

This and That If you have not had a chance to meet out Interim Program Director, please pop in the center and welcome her to our team. She is working diligently to bring new program opportunities to Martin and would love your ideas! As you may know, we are still in a search for personnel to fill our two Martin vacancies, our Program and Partnership Director and our Volunteer and Office Manager. Helen is continuing to help us “hang on” until we can find the right candidate. If you know of someone that might be interested in either of these roles, please let us know. We need to cast a wider net so please help us spread the word. If you are wondering why we aren’t scheduling more trips, it is because we are required by law to only use CDL licensed drivers. In the past we used several of our great Brentwood firefighters, but one is retiring this summer and two others are now in Administrative positions so they no longer have shift rotations. The rotation means that they are off during certain days, giving them the flexibility to drive for us. If you know of any friends or neighbors that might have this license, please reach out to them to see if they might be

This new program, through the National Institutes of Health, seeks to enroll 1 million participants from all backgrounds to improve the health of future generations. ALLofUS Research Program is partnering with Vanderbilt University seeking to improve the health of future generations.
