No matter what age you are or what condition you are in, you can experience the health benefits of yoga. Creative Wellness and Education Acrylic Techniques Instructor: John Cannon 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month at 1:00.

Acrylic Painting Techniques. Learn how to use acrylic paints in a variety of styles. Techniques also include alternate surfaces and addition of mediums to achieve artistic effects. Instruction will also emphasize composition and values, as well as practical aspects of creating art.

Oil Painting With Barbara Thursdays at 9:30 Instructor: Barbara Bays Join us for this four week session to learn new ideas, techniques and enjoy fellowship with friends.

Pumpkin on Canvas with vinyl etching Thursday, October 27 at 1:00 Instructor: Carrie Drumheller Reservations made only with payment.

Learn some basics of working with removable vinyl to create a unique 12"X12" Fall canvas. We will start by painting the canvas, then work on "weeding" our vinyl pieces and finally apply the vinyl to the canvas. You will have an option to choose the color of the canvas. All of the vinyl will be pre-cut in the selected colors. Class size is limited.

Tuesday, November 15 at 10:00 Did you know that 14% of adults ages 45-64 have some degree of hearing loss, as do 33% of people over age 65 and 67% of individuals over age 75. Untreated hearing loss can lead to early onset of dementia or Alzheimer's disease and other memory loss. Songs for Sound is a 501c3 charity based in Nashville that helps protects and restores hearing by offering a free mobile hearing clinic offering free hearing screenings. Tennessee Museum Of Natural History Thursday, October 20 at 9:30 Tour Guide: Martin member, a.k.a Rock Lady Marilyn Duran The Middle Tennessee Museum of Natural History is the first natural history museum in Middle Tennessee. The museum has displays from all over the world but has a very large number of items from Tennessee. Come see dinosaurs, fossils, gems, minerals rocks and archeological relics. This is not your typical natural history museum! They have an interactive, dynamic museum where visitors will not only see ongoing research and activities they will be offered chances to participate. Visitors will see a working paleontology laboratory where they will see real dinosaur bones cleaned and repaired. After the tour we will have lunch at Through the Grapevine. Reservations required.

Miller’s Grocery Christiana, TN

Friday, October 21 at 9:45 Miller’s Grocery was in continuous operation as a country store for over 75 years in the once bustling whistle-stop community of Christiana, TN. The name “Miller’s Grocery” remains in memory of long-time proprietor Mr. Stanley Miller and as a tribute to a by-gone era. Along with Tuna's perennial favorites, some new Tuna denizens burst into the 4th of July Tuna High School Class Reunion.

Lunch Bunch Edley’s BBQ Tuesday, November 8 at 10:15 Edley’s Bar-B-Que is the spot for all barbecue-eating, good-times lovin’ Nashvillians. Located in East Nashville, Edley’s Bar-B-Que smokes all meats fresh daily using local White Oak wood. Their meat is smoked low and slow. Unlike other BBQ joints, they do not stop with just the smoked meats. They prepare eight to ten Southern style side dishes made from scratch everyday with recipes derived from mothers, grandmothers, nannies and housekeepers. Nathan Bedford Forest Home Chapel Hill, TN

Wednesday, November 9 at 10:00 Travel with tour guide Cliff Coss to Chapel Hill for a guided tour of Nathan Bedford Forest’s childhood home. Nathan Bedford Forest was born in Chapel Hill, Tennessee, on July 13, 1821. He assumed responsibility for his family at the age of sixteen, following the death of his father. Despite a mere six months of formal education, Forrest rose from semi-subsistence to planter status, acquiring substantial property and wealth. Nathan Bedford Forrest, the "wizard of the saddle," was known as one of the finest Confederate cavalry commanders and one of the foremost military figures produced by the state of Tennessee. He was particularly famous for his determination to be "first with the most men." Before the tour we will have lunch at Sweet Side Café in Chapel Hill.

Bingo at Martin Tuesday, October 18 and November 15 at 1:15 Bingo will be held after our monthly potluck luncheon. If you wish to play, please bring a $5 gift card of your choice. Each player will receive two bingo cards and we will have prizes for the winner of each game. In the event that more than one person bingos, we will draw cards to determine who will receive the prize for that game. We are just getting this organized so please be patient with us as we feel our way and anticipate a fun-filled afternoon for all involved. Friday, October 7 at 1:00 The Intern (2016) Staring Robert De Niro - Anne Hathaway In "The Intern," Ben Whittaker (Robert De Niro) is a 70-year-old widower who has discovered that retirement isn't all it's cracked up to be. Seizing an opportunity to get back in the game, he becomes a senior intern at an online fashion site, founded and run by Jules Ostin (Anne Hathaway.) The hard-working founder and owner of a successful clothing company isn't thrilled when she has to pair up with a retired businessman as part of the company's "senior intern" program, but the young woman soon finds in the old-timer a valuable business resource and a very good friend.

Friday, November 11 at 1:00 The Imitation Game (2014) Starring: Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley Famously leading a motley group of scholars, linguists, chess champions and intelligence officers, mathematician, cryptanalyst and war hero Alan Turing (Benedict Cumberbatch) was credited with cracking the so-called unbreakable codes of Germany's World War II Enigma machine. The Imitation Game is an intense and haunting portrayal of a brilliant, complicated man, a genius who under nail-biting pressure helped to shorten the war and, in turn, save thousands of lives.

Wednesday, November 16 at 1:00 Mrs. Henderson Presents (2006) Staring Judi Dench - Bob Hoskins Recently widowed well-to-do Laura Henderson is at a bit of a loose end in inter-war London. On a whim she buys the derelict Windmill theatre in the West End and persuades impresario Vivian Van Damm to run it, despite the fact the two don't seem to get on at all. Although their idea of a non-stop revue is at first a success, other theatres copy it and disaster looms. Laura suggests they put nudes in the show, but Van Damm points out that the Lord Chamberlain, who licenses live shows in Britain, is likely to have something to say about this. Luckily Mrs Henderson is friends with him!!!

The History of our Amazing English language “Wacky, Wonderful English Language”

5-week series begins Friday, October 21 from 10:00 to 11:30 Instructor: Kay Wyatt, Lipscomb University graduate, M.A.T. English, MTSU, retired Lipscomb Academy faculty Location: FiftyForward Martin Center, 960 Heritage Way, Brentwood In the “Wacky, Wonderful English Language” class, we will look at our amazing English language. Some of the areas we will consider are how the English language has developed through its history until now, how words originate and develop (etymology), how English readily borrows words from other languages, how great literary word makers have left their marks on English, how our many, many idioms can make English a difficult language for English as a second language learners, and how our language has become the world’s lingua franca. Please join us on this wacky, wonderful English adventure!

Reservations accepted only with payment. 5-week series October 21 and 28. November 4, 11, 18. Cost for series: $60

Wednesday, November 9 Tee Time: 11:00 Cheekwood Golf Club is a 9 hole golf course located in the middle of beautiful Franklin off Mac Hatcher Parkway. Enjoy 9 holes of golf with a cart. If you want to car pool from the Center please meet be at the Center at 10:00.

If you wish to meet the group at Cheekwood Golf Club please arrive there at 10:30.

Cost: $30 includes lunch (sandwich, chips and a drink) and cart fees.

Their winery offers guests a chance to stroll through our vineyards, enjoy wine tastings and shop an array of local, hand made crafts and gifts. The hand-built log cabin that was built in 1982,was once their family home, has been converted into a cozy tasting room that welcomes visitors far and wide. A landmark in Leiper’s Fork, Green’s Grocery will host our Martin Center holiday party. This is a unique and exclusive opportunity to travel to the beautiful countryside of Leiper’s Fork and enjoy fellowship and friendship. Casey’s Corner

I am excited to announce that I will be at the Martin Center full time beginning October 1st! Now you won’t see me coming and going and I can spend more time getting to know everyone! I am starting to line up Kitchen Keepers volunteers for 2017 so email or call me with the months you are willing to help out with potluck. I also would love to get more front desk volunteers so that the desk will always be covered. If you are nervous about all the responsibilities that come with being a front desk volunteer, fear not because I am planning a training session. It will be a refresher course for longtime front desk volunteers as well as a way for new volunteers to learn the front desk tasks.

This holiday season we will participate in “Full Tummies, Warm Hearts” to provide Christmas gifts for some of Jane Bradley’s clients. Martin Center activity groups will get an individual or family to support and then put together a gift basket for Jane to deliver. The gift can be an assortment of items or one large item – I heard about the Martin Center group that bought Mr. Pete a rocking chair because it was what he wanted more than anything else! Wow! I will talk more about this volunteer opportunity at the October potluck and you can sign up at that time. If you do not participate in a regular activity group, we will also have a general Martin Center group so that you can contribute. This is a great way to help seniors in our Williamson County community have a merry Christmas!

BYOB Patio Party (Bring Your Own Broom) Tuesday, October 25 at 3:00 It’s fall ya’ll so let’s go outside and enjoy our beautiful patio. We will have something for everyone. For those who would like to enjoy a game of horseshoes we will open up the horseshoe pit. For those who want to venture down by the fire pit and roast s'mores we will have the fire pit lit. We will be serving burgers and listening to bluegrass for those that want to enjoy fellowship, fun and your favorite beverage while sitting on the patio.

So join us, relax and enjoy our wonderful outdoor space while listening to Jon and some of his friends play your favorite tunes. Cost: $12 includes burgers, fixings, sides and dessert.

Veterans Day Parade Community News

Friday, November 11 at 11:00 The City of Franklin will remember and honor all veterans at its Veterans’ Day Parade being held in Downtown Franklin.

The parade is a joint effort of the City and local radio station WAKM AM-950. The parade route travels down Main Street, from Five Points to Second Avenue. JROTC units and/or marching bands from Williamson County high schools will participate.
