Get Movin’ At Martin *Brentwood Library Partnership Interested in trying out a new fitness class? We have a variety of classes normally offered at The Brentwood Library that just might be the ticket! Classes are $5 per session, pay the instructor directly at the Center.

*Strength and Cardio on Thursday, February 18 from 9:30-10:30 Mandy Broderick will lead you through a series of moves to get your heart rate elevated with short bursts of creative cardio intervals followed by strength circuits using both body-weight resistance and exercise bands to increase muscle tone and strength.

*Pilates on Tuesday, February 23 and March 1 at 10:00 Maria Guse uses a series of traditional Pilates exercises that will improve your core strength, increase your flexibility, create better postural alignment, develop your balance and give you a wider range of motion.

*FXP Hula Hoop Fitness on Wednesday, March 2 at 9:45 Nichole Morrison offers a unique blend of pilates, barre, and yoga-inspired moves...all with a hula hoop! The flow of sequences ignites your metabolism, tones, sculpts, and stretches the body to help achieve your goals.

*Vinyasa Yoga Flow on Wednesday, March 2 at 10:45 Nichole Morrison leads Power Yoga: breathing with movement. The mission of this class is to provide a compassionate, supportive environment where healing can occur on all levels through gentle yoga and meditation flow practices.

On-Going Programming At Martin NEW At Martin ~ Yoga on Mondays Begins Monday, March 14 at 10:30 Instructor: Barbara Johnson Yoga is for everyone. No matter what age you are or what condition you are in you can experience the health benefits of yoga. Did you know you can perform most yoga postures, breathing techniques, meditation, and relaxation techniques from a chair? Even if you are the laziest person in the world you’ll love Chair Yoga.

Seriously this form of yoga is very easy to do no matter what condition you are in. Cost: Members $5.

Chair Yoga is now a part of the senior Yoga Class. Chair Yoga provides a stable foundation for all bodies to gain strength and flexibility as well as a calm and clear mind.

Creative Wellness and Education Discover and Explore Acrylic Techniques

Instructor: John Cannon 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month at 1:00.

Acrylic Painting Techniques. Learn how to use acrylic paints in a variety of styles. Techniques also include alternate surfaces and addition of mediums to achieve artistic effects. Instruction will also emphasize composition and values, as well as practical aspects of creating art.

Cost: $30 per class or 2 consecutive classes for $50. February 8 and 22. March 14 and 28.

Oil Painting For All Thursdays, at 9:30 Instructor: Barbara Bays Join us for this four week session to learn new ideas, techniques and enjoy fellowship with friends.

These sessions are designed for you to relax and explore your creative side and discover hidden talents in a delightful environment. Cost: $45 for members. Series 1: February 18, 25 and March 3 and 10.

The Recluse and the Pop Star: Emily Dickinson and Robert Frost 5-week series begins Monday, March 28 through Monday, April 29 from 10:00 to 11:30 Professor: Dr. Dennis Loyd, retired English professor; Lipscomb University Program description: Emily Dickinson was called the Nun of Amherst because of her reclusive nature. Only seven or eight of her more than 1770 poems were published in her lifetime. In contrast Robert Frost seldom passed up an opportunity to be seen and heard. He was a frequent visitor to colleges and universities and at age 86 read a poem at John F. Kennedy's inauguration. This will be a look at representative poems from two of our most respected poets.

Phantom Of The Opera TPAC Sunday, March 20 at 11:45 Cameron Mackintosh’s spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera will come to Nashville as part of a brand new North American Tour. Critics are raving that this breathtaking production is “bigger and better than ever before” and features a brilliant new scenic design by Paul Brown, Tony Award®-winning original costume design by Maria Björnson, lighting design by Tony Award®-winner Paule Constable, new choreography by Scott Ambler, and new staging by director Laurence Connor. Bingo at Martin Tuesday, February 16 and March 15 at 1:30 Bingo will be held after our monthly potluck luncheon. If you wish to play, please bring a $5 gift of your choice. Each player will receive two cards and we will have prizes for the winner of each game. In the event that more than one person bingos, we will draw cards to determine who will receive the prize for that game. It is estimated that we will play for approximately 90 minutes. We are just getting this organized so please be patient with us as we feel our way and anticipate a fun-filled afternoon for all involved. All those interested are encouraged to come and join in the fun.

News Channel 5 Tour Thursday, March 24 leave at 1:00 Lunch and News Channel 5 Tour Let’s travel to Nashville for tour of News Channel 5 with Tuwanda Colman. Tuwanda will guide us through the station with a behind the scenes view of the hours and effort it takes to bring the news to your home. News Channel Five is located off James Robertson parkway. The tour is at 2:00 and limited to 12. Reservations required.

Nissan Tour and Lunch Tuesday, March 22 leave the Center at 8:45 Nissan North America Production Plant Tours is a ver y infor mative and inter esting tour . It's a fast moving tour riding on trams, each with it's own tour narrator who explains through your headsets what you are seeing as it can get very noisy. The technology they use, the sheer size of the place, and the manufacturing processes are awesome to learn about. You can't imagine what hard work goes into making each and every car on the market. You can even see what parts are made by humans and which are made by robots. Leave your phone/camera in the car...no photos allowed!!! Tour size is limited. Tour is at 10:00. After the tour we will have lunch at Cheddars.
