March Depot St. Patrick’s Day Center Lunch. Monday, March 17!

Join us in celebration of St. Patrick's Day. We will have a delicious Irish lunch prepared by Kevin and Jeff in The Palm Tree CafĂŠ. Greg Simpkins will be here playing some beautiful music on the piano while we eat. Wear green! We will have door prizes and a trivia game too! Please come and enjoy fellowship with other members. The cost is $7.00 for the lunch.

The RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program) committee will be here Friday, March 14 at 9:30 a.m. All members are invited to the social hall where we will enjoy some snacks and make homemade cards for our veterans. Maristone at Providence Tour and Lunch - Tuesday, March 4. Maristone is a luxury retirement and assisted lliving home located in Mt. Juliet. This 46-unit community has a 15-unit Alzheimer ’s care secured wing and also features a wellness center, library, pub, media room and beauty salon. Come take a tour with us and enjoy some great food. Cost is $5.00 for the van. We will leave the center at 10:00 a.m.

John Seigenthaler –Wednesday, March 5. This is a rescheduled event from January. We still have a few spots open! Come join us and hear all about Mr. Seigenthaler’s experiences with the Freedom Riders, the Kennedys, and Nashville’s role in the Civil Rights Movement. Cost is $5.00 for the van.

Dr. Ming Wang’s Music and Medicine Seminar Thursday, March 6 at 9:30 a.m. Dr. Wang will provide tips on vision care and options for corrective surgical enhancements. He will also demonstrate his musical abilities with the “er lu”, a Chinese musical instrument similar to the violin. This is a MUST see, and it is FREE! You must sign up in the front office.

Chaffin’s Barn “Always a Bridesmaid” -Thursday, March 6 at noon. This wonderful play centers on four high school friends who promise to be in each other ’s weddings no matter what. Over the next 30 years, they keep that promise loving, honoring and cherishing each other through countless trips down the aisle. Chaffin’s has such a fun atmosphere! Come join us. Your ticket and the van ride will be $25.00. We will eat at a Mexican restaurant before the show. Leave the center at 10:15 a.m.

Relax @ Work – Tuesday, March 11 at 9:45 a.m. Carol Winfree, spa and relaxation specialist, will speak about stress awareness programs. Each participant will experience huggable neck wraps to relieve tension, hand/lip treatments, guided relaxation to soothing music and a mini massage. Join us for some stress relief. This is FREE. Must sign up in the office.

Lunchbunch to 5 Chefs in Portland – Tuesday, March 11. 5 Chefs serves daily “meat and three” lunches and also specialty sandwiches, salads and soups. Cost for the van is $6.00. We will leave the center at 10:30 a.m.

Davidson County Election Commission Presentation – Wednesday, March 12 at 9:45 a.m. Would you like to make some extra money? The DCEC is recruiting conscientious persons dedicated to protecting the electoral process to work as a Poll Official on May 6, August 7 and November 4. Ella Chadwell, DCEC Poll Recruiter, will be here with all the details. Please sign up in the front office.

Bluebird Café Thursday, March 13. Join us for some great music, coffee and doughnuts at the famous Bluebird Café in Green Hills. This is a FREE event. Cost for the van is $5.00. We will leave the center at 9:15 a.m.

Music for Seniors - Thursday, March 13. Music for Seniors, the Nashville Ballet and Gordon Jewish Community Center present Nashville Ballet’s “Anne Frank”, an original one-hour ballet. This event is located at the Gordon Jewish Community Center and is FREE! Cost to ride the van is $4.00. We will leave the center at 12:45 p.m.

RSVP Craft Project for Veterans-Friday, March 14. The RSVP committee is inviting our members Veterans to join them in the social hall where we will make homemade cards for our veterans. Please join us for snacks, refreshments and fellowship. What a great act of kindness!!! This is FREE! Sign up in the front office. Starts at 9:30 a.m.

Center Lunch – Monday, March 17 at 11:30 a.m. Celebrate St. Patrick ’s day with great food, prizes, people and entertainment by pianist, Greg Simpkins. Jeff and Kevin will make us a great Irish meal. Cost is $7.00 for the lunch. $2.00 Movie and Lunch – Tuesday, March 18. Let ’s grab some food at O ’Charleys and watch a movie at Hickory Hollow. OsteoStrong Presentation – Wednesday, March 19 at 9:45 a.m. Do not miss this informational presentation on how we attain stronger bones, healthier joints and better balance NATURALLY. FREE bone scans will be available and 1 FREE trip to OsteoStrong if you attend. Please sign up in the front office.

Hiking Club – Tuesday, March 25. We will head to Long Hunter State Park and hike the UNPAVED Volunteer Trail which is approximately 2.5 miles long. Cost for the van is $5.00. Leave the center at 10:00 a.m.

Turnip Truck (The Gulch location) Shopping & Lunch - Wednesday, March 26. Whole foods, organic produce and healthy living can all be found at this urban natural market. We will enjoy lunch from the hot and cold bar and then it ’s time to shop! This is located in The Gulch, near downtown. Cost for the van is $5.00. Leave the center at 10:45 a.m.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore Shopping-Friday, March 28. Habitat ’s ReStores sell used and new Shopping home and office furnishings at a fraction of retail prices. You will find great discounts on gently used home related items, architectural elements and some new items. This is where “great finds fund good works!”. Cost for the van is $5.00. Spanish 1—Starts Monday, March Summit Audiology will be here the third Wednesday of each month performing FREE screenings to all of our members.

They will be here on March 19 from 10:00 a.m. till 1:00 p.m. Make sure to make an appointment in the front office.

This was formed in 1981 to foster the continued study, practice and use of calligraphy among its members, and to encourage community awareness of the art of calligraphy. These pieces are for sale. All purchases can be made in the front office.

COMPUTER CLASSES Photo Transfer Class - March 15 from 99-11am. This is a oneone-day class. The cost is $10.00 for nonmembers and $15.00 for non members. Please bring your cell phone that contains photos, a camera and its SD card plus any cables that go along with your camera.

Photo Book ClassClass- March 22 9from 9 -11am. This is a oneone-day class. The cost is $10.00 for nonmembers and $15.00 for non members. Bring your flash drive, a CD, a DVD or a camera containing photos you want to place in your photo book and a credit/ debit card to use to pay online for the photo book (approximate cost is $10.00).

Basic Computer Skills April 5 – April 26, 99-11am. Students will learn Windows 7 Navigation, how to search and save files, how to pin and unpin applications and documents to the Start Menu and to the Taskbar.

Facebook Class - May 3— 3—May 24, 9-11am. Learn how to navigate through one of the most popular social media sites. You will learn how to build your own profile, add photos, communicate with friends on Facebook and much more. This is a great way to keep in contact with your children, grandchildren, and other family members.

Twitter – June 7– 7–28, 99-11am Learn about this online social networking and micro blogging service that enables users to send and read “tweets” which are text messages limited to 140 characters.

Registered users can read and post tweets but unregistered users can only read them. There are over 500 million registered users on Twitter.

Lessons in Portrait Drawing!

What a great additive to our existing art classes.

This includes 10 weeks of instruction, starting Wednesday, March 12 from1 until 3 p.m. The cost is $140.00. The instructor will be Steve Lassuer. Steve is a graduate of the American Academy of Art in Chicago. Before accepting a teaching position at Nossi College of Art, he was the art supervisor for U.M. Publishing House, Art Director for Genesco, and designer for Keller Crescent Advertising. He has been a resident of Donelson for the past 30 years. Goodbye FF Donelson, What an awesome 27 weeks I have had here at FiftyForward Donelson Station! You all (members and staff) made me feel so welcome. I appreciate your patience as we have dealt with some difficult issues and changes. FiftyForward Donelson Station is, of course, a gathering place of many gifted and caring people who are proud of "your" center with all its many activities and opportunities. You are such dedicated, knowledgeable, compassionate and friendly Center DirectorDirector-Angela Bryan folks...Southern Hospitality at its best!

It has been a tremendous privilege to spend these past 6 months with you However, I believe that you are in for real here at FiftyForward Donelson! positive experiences with our new FF Donelson Station Director, Angela Bryan! Angela comes My intention is to come and to us with a very successful employment history participate in some of the activities as leading various not-for-profit agencies. She a member and just have fun with y'all helped a variety of people bring more joy and after I get my income taxes done and satisfaction into their lives. She is a good get the house back in order. I plan to listener, a strong advocate, wise, open and join the "Friday Tailgaters"...there is friendly. always lots of good food and conversation there. My doctor will be God bless you all as you travel the road so proud of me if/when I become an ahead...Love, Fran active participant in some of the exercise classes. I might even get my husband here to go on some of the day trips with me.... I am still absolutely attracted to the jewelry making classes...the Keeton Theater performances and so many other things at FF Donelson.

Sooo....this little message is not really goodbye...instead, it is "I will be back"...but only to play and learn and listen and be with people I admire, respect, love and appreciate!

FREE Event Section Middle TN Genealogical Society Upcoming Event: Saturday, March 15 from 13p.m. Place: FiftyForward Knolwes, Patricia Hart Building (across from the State Fairgrounds) 174 Rains Avenue. The speaker will be Joe Spann, a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and a Floridian, who is currently working in the music industry in Nashville. Mr. Spann holds a Bachelors Degree in Secondary Education. He was the Director of Polk County Historical and Genealogical Library in Bartow, Florida for 21 years. Polk County has one of the largest genealogy research centers found in southeastern United States. In 2007 he graduated from the National Institute on Genealogical Research in Washington D.C. He will cover four major groups of colonial emigrants and give suggestions on bringing those colonial ancestors to life. This is a FREE meeting. Refreshments will be served.
