The Puzzle is Almost Complete!

Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far to our Matching Campaign! We are so close to our goal—at press time, we only needed about $1200 more to reach our goal of $5,000. The campaign will be ending on June 6, 2016, so hurry and get your gifts in. Any amount from $5 to $5,000 will be matched. Let’s not leave any pieces out on the beautiful puzzle in the front lobby!

20th Anniversary Committee Did you know that this year is Madison Station’s 20th Anniversary? We are so proud to have been in service this long and are eager to celebrate!

I will be forming a 20th anniversary committee to help plan a year-end party as well as other fun activities. If you would like to be a part of this committee, please see me. We want our 20th year to be the best one yet!

Music Jam Reunion June 10th

Summer Dinner Theater Is Back!

For one night only—the Friday Night Music Jam is back for a Reunion! Join them on Friday, June 10 for a night of food and music! A potluck will begin at 5:00 pm. Meat and drinks are provided.

Skyline Lunch & Learn Tuesday, June 28th Our friends at Skyline Medical Center will be providing a FREE Lunch & Learn on Tuesday, June 28th. Our delectable lunch that day will be a chicken r ice casser ole with asparagus and a mixed green salad from CRAVE Catering served at 11:30 am. Afterward, Skyline will be our presenter. Fir st, br eak out your best talent for a FiftyFor war d Talent Showcase! If you have a talent you’d like to share, please pick up an application at the front desk and turn it into Sam. After the talent show, we’ll enjoy an ice cream sundae buffet.

Cumberland River Cruise and Cherokee Steakhouse Enjoy one of our summer favorites! Relax aboard a leisurely two-hour pontoon boat cruise on Old Hickory Lake in Gallatin with Captain Jesse. For dinner, retire to the Cherokee Steak House for their self-proclaimed “world’s finest beef” selected from Iowa cattle farms, famed for their flavor and tenderness.

Wednesday, June 1 - 1:30 p.m. - $23 + Dinner Hiking Club Before Hiking Club takes a hot weather intermission, we’ll mark the last of the “Top 10 Hiking Spots Around Nashville” off our list with the Richland Creek Greenway. Hiking Club will return in September for hopefully cooler hiking weather.

New Class: Laughs ’n’ Crafts Starts June 9 Crafting can be a great way to relieve stress! Come have fun plus make art out of everyday objects at this new class led by Sara Jo Beliles. Meet the second Thursday of the month from 9:00 to 11:00 am in the Art Room. First up, you’ll paint a Mrs. Buttersworth bud vase on June 9. Cost is only $2.00 for supplies. See the front desk for an example and to sign up.

Madison vs. Donelson Pool Tournament in June We’ve been challenged by the Donelson Station FiftyForward again—but this time to a Pool Tournament! If you are a poolplaying member, join us on Tuesday, June 21 at 9:30 am for an 8-ball, double elimination tournament. Come out to watch and cheer on all our beloved pool players as they go for the win against Donelson!

Spotlight On: The Loose Caboose Players Have you ever wanted to try your hand at acting? Then come join the Loose Caboose Players this summer! Every Tuesday at 10 a.m. this fun group will be meeting to rehearse skits, poems, monologues and maybe even a song or two. Got something funny to share? Bring it and show it to the group! No pressure, just FUN! Call Kelsey Mahaffey with any questions.

This month we spotlight Barbara Brown for going above and beyond the call of duty as our Fundraising Chair. Barbara often blesses us by using her own funds to support our fundraising programs! She shows what stuff she’s made of by helping to make the events as beautiful, organized and well-thought out as possible as her passion is truly in the details. She also spends extra time on her own to prep for events. Thank you Barbara for caring so much about our center!

Goodwill Bin/Lost and Found A lot of spring cleaning has been going on because you have filled our “Goodwill Drop-Off Bin” up FOUR times already! It’s located INSIDE our center in the frame shop. We accept any gently used items that the Goodwill stores take including clothing, books, accessories, handbags, housewares, art, cooking utensils, tools and even toys! Once our bin is full, Goodwill picks it up and donates $20 to our center. It’s that easy!

When items are found around the Center such as glasses, umbrellas or jackets, we put them in our Lost and FoundDrawer and date the day they are found. If they are not claimed within a month, we will be donating them to Goodwill from now on. If you have lost an item, please check with the front desk.

Sheriff’s Safety Days—The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office will be at Faith Baptist Church (1602 N. Gallatin Rd. in Madison) on Saturday, June 4 from 9:00 am to Noon providing Shredding of personal documents (up to 4 boxes); Cell Phone Donation/Safe Disposal; Rx Medication Safe Disposal; Eyeglass Drop for Disposal; Electronics Safe Disposal (anything with a plug); Hard Drive Destruction and Disposal; and Tire Disposal. This is a great free Ready to Join? service—don’t miss out!

A membership is just $120 per year. Bank draft of just $10 per month is available as well. We are a SilverSneakers and Silver & Fit reimbursed location!

50’s/60’s Sock Hop—Larry’s Grand Ole Garage Diner & Dancehall (768 Madison Square in Madison) is hosting a 50’s/60’s Sock Hop to benefit Amqui Station on Friday, June 10 from 6:30 to 10:30 pm. There will be a dance contest, costume contest and hamburgers and French fries for dinner. Tickets are $12.00, available at Amqui Station, Larry’s Grand Ole Garage or at the door.

If you haven’t noticed, we have introduced several new classes lately—with more to come!!

Chess Club - Come Tuesdays at 1:00 pm in the Social Room to play chess or learn how to play.

Computer Training: 1st & 3rd Mondays of the month between 9:00 and 11:00 am. Jim Byler will teach you basic computer skills as well as Windows 7-10 and Microsoft Office.

Laughs ’n’ Crafts: Make art out of everyday objects the 2nd Thursday of the month at 9:00 am. Enjoy socializing in a laid back atmosphere.

Kathleen Phillips will start a new Yoga Stretch class Thursdays in JULY at 1:45 pm. This class will cost $2 per person.

Avoiding Financial Exploitation—Thursday, June 16th According to the Older Americans Act, financial exploitation is the fraudulent or otherwise illegal, unauthorized, or improper actions by a caregiver, fiduciary, or other individual in which the resources of an older person are used by another for personal profit or gain; or actions that result in depriving an older person of the benefits, resources, belongings, or assets to which they are entitled.
