THE WHISTLESTOP
17th Annual Whistlestop Dinner a Great Success! All Aboard! We are thrilled to announce that our Whistlestop event raised nearly $30,000 to help fund the many programs, services, and activities offered here at FiftyForward Madison Station. Guests that evening enjoyed an extensive silent auction and reception, followed by a fabulous meal catered by dinner sponsor CRAVE Catering. Emceed by Lelan Statom of NewsChannel 5, some highlights of the evening were the announcement of Cornelia Laux as the Senior of the Year and State Representative Bill Beck from the Madison Kiwanis Club as the Conductor of the Year. The evening culminated with the presentation of “The Conductor” award, given posthumously to Mr. J.D. Elliott, former president of The Memorial Foundation. Mr. Elliott remained dedicated to our center since its inception in 1996. He understood the need for a senior center and what an important gathering place this is in our community. FiftyForward Madison Station would not be here without his leadership, commitment and service. We are thankful to the following businesses for making the event possible: Title Sponsor - Dollar General Corporation; Conductor Sponsors - Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery; Cigna-Healthspring; and The Memorial Foundation; and the Engineers - Signature Healthcare of Madison; Tri-Star Skyline; Wm. Massey Electric; Madison Rivergate-Area Chamber of Commerce; and Vista Points Special Needs Trust. I would also like to send a special thank-you to all of our members who participated in some way. Many of you purchased tickets, “puffs” of train smoke, donated auction items and volunteered. And personally I would also like to extend a HUGE thank you to all of our hard-working staff. Everyone “got on board” and worked extra hours to help us achieve our goal. I could not ask for a better team! Thank you all so very much and let’s do it again next year! —Kelsey Mahaffey
