SEPTEMBER 2015 ISSUE
THE WHISTLESTOP
From the Director… Well, summer is winding down and I am hopeful this month will usher in some cooler weather! Frist off, I wanted to make you aware that we have begun renting space to a new church in Madison called The Village Church. The Village Church is an Afrikan-centered Christian Church that started in 1997 in East Nashville. They will be offering African Drumming and Dance classes on Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. and their worship service is Sundays at noon. Second, it’s Viva La Diva season! Viva La Diva is a 5K fundraiser benefitting all programs and services of FiftyForward. The race will be held Saturday, November 21st at Nissan in Cool Springs. We are looking for volunteers that would be interested in being a course monitor. Course Monitors commit to a 7:00 – 11:00 am time frame and are placed throughout the course to cheer on the runners and walkers. Please see me or Sam if you are interested in helping with Viva La Diva or if you would like to run or walk the race. Also, please note that the Center will be closed in observance of Labor Day on Monday, September 7th. Happy September!

A Call to Veterans! Are you a Veteran? FiftyForward Madison would like to recognize you in a “Salute to Servicemembers”, a new display that is coming soon. Sam needs your pictures, stories, news clippings, etc. and your advice about what should be included in the display. We would prefer copies as this display will be up for some time. We also ask that you label everything with your name, branch of service, years active and your contact information. Entries and suggestions can be made to Sam in the office, by phone at (615) 860-7180, or by email at sgarlock@fiftyforward.org.
New Staff Member & FLIP Coordinator Help us give a warm welcome to our new FLIP Coordinator for the Madison area, Bethanie Peadro. Prior to this position, Bethanie taught 3rd grade and subbed in Metro schools for three years. She is very excited for this opportunity working at FiftyForward in the Madison branch. Besides working, she loves running, playing with her puppy, traveling, and seeing movies. She invites you to feel free to stop by her office to say hello or inquire about the FLIP program.
