Letter from the Center Director It is October, one of my favorite months of the year! We have a lot of great announcements to share with you! First, we would like to share that Nancy Brown has been elected Madison Station's new Advisory Council Chair and Libby Baughman the Vice-Chair. Please join us in congratulating them! Nancy and Libby, as well as, all members of the Advisory Council (see front desk for a list) are here to hear your voice. If you have questions, concerns, or ideas for the center please see one of them. In the spirit of "ArtOber" we are pleased to announce that we are now Community Partners with the Frist Art Museum. As Community Partners we will participant in both a Fall and Spring Art Trunk program which merges the current exhibit with fun art projects. Additionally, we receive FREE Admission and Parking to the Frist anytime. This means any FiftyForward Madison Station member can go to the Frist (with guests) for free! Please pick up a flyer from the front desk for more details on how to use this exciting new benefit. In other BIG news, the FiftyForward Board of Directors have announced the next FiftyForward Executive Director, Sallie Hussey. She will be leaving her current role as Chief Development Officer at The Next Door, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving women in crisis, to join FiftyForward in mid-October. She will work concurrently with longtime FiftyForward Executive Director, Janet Jernigan, until the end of the calendar year. —Brandy Lamb, Center Director
Letter from the Program Director October’s activities are full of culture—from art exhibits and classes to food from Mexico and Germany. Plus you can also travel to Amish Country and learn how to Folk Dance! And that’s just the beginning of a month full of learning, music and parties! I hope you will all join us at the Homecoming Dance on October 5—I’ve got my poodle skirt ready! Then I’ll make a costume change for the Halloween Party on October 30; wear your most creative costume and you might win a gift card! Between these two parties, you’ll have the opportunity to find a job, get a reduction on your car insurance, and learn to write a will! Don’t miss a thing—join us here at Madison Station! —Julie Reeves, Program Director

Come ‘Home’ to Madison Station on Friday, October 5 at 5:30 pm for a nostalgic Homecoming Dance sponsored by Creekside Center for Rehabilitation and Healing. Past, present and future members are invited to a 50s and 60s ‘blast from the past’! We’ll have line dancing, couples dancing, plus plenty of seating for those who like to sit back and enjoy the music from the Blue Suede Shoes, the rockin’ band that played our September Dinner Show. Heavy appetizers will be served. A king and queen who best represent the ‘spirit of the evening’ will be crowned! You are welcome to dress up for the occasion in 50s/60s attire, formalwear, or just some nice slacks! We invite you to bring your high school memorabilia to display as well. Tickets are only $10.00 and are available at the front desk. Invite your friends and family too!
The National Council on Aging is partnering with FiftyForward to host a Job & Resource Fair on Wednesday, October 10 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm in our Social Room. More than 40 businesses and resource organizations will be in attendance to recruit older adults seeking to re-enter the workforce, earn extra income or start a second career. Come dressed for success and bring plenty of resumes!
