JANUARY 2018 ISSUE

THE WHISTLESTOP

Letter from the Center Director Happy, Happy New Year!!! I am excited to start my first full year here at FiftyForward Madison Station. Over the next few months we will begin an overview of all of our programming here at the center. This will include visits to existing groups and classes, focus groups, and a programming survey. Stay tuned and join us so that your voices can be heard. As I mentioned last month we have been blessed to receive incredible gifts of grants from the Memorial Foundation and an Anonymous Capital Campaign. We have seen the center transform over this past year and we will continue to see the benefits of these grants take effect this year. We will keep you posted on the details as we begin to make improvements to different areas of the center. We are very excited about these new renovations as they will help support our daily activities and special events. First up, a new fitness center with all new equipment, just in time to support any New Year resolutions! Also, you may have noticed the addition of the security cameras throughout the building. We now have 10 cameras throughout the inside and outside of the building including the fitness center. We are grateful to be able to provide a more safe and secure center. We are also happy to have Zach Curtiss here with us. He will be helping us in the front office, so stop by and say hello! — Brandy Lamb, Center Director

Letter from the Program Director Happy New Year! It’s hard for me to believe that 2018 will mark the fifth year I have been a part of the FiftyForward family, and it has been a wonderful five years! I’m not one to make resolutions, but my resolution to you this year is to strive to make the programming at Madison Station the best around! I will soon start visiting EVERY class to get feedback and suggestions. In the meantime if you have any programming suggestions, feel free to stop by my office, call or email (jreeves@nashville.net) I wish you and yours a fantastic 2018! —Julie Reeves, Program Director

Tax Appointments Now Being Made AARP Foundation Tax-Aide offers free tax preparation at our Center every year to anyone of any age— especially if you are 50 or older or can’t afford paid tax preparation. We are now making appointments. Volunteers will be here every Wednesday from February 7 to April 11 between the hours of 9:00 am and 3:30 pm. Appointments fill up quickly so don’t delay!

January Closings The Center will be CLOSED Monday, January 1 for New Year’s Day and Monday, January 15 for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Remember our Inclement Weather Policy: On days when Davidson Co. Metro Schools are closed due to inclement weather, all Center classes, trips and special programs, including Metro Meals, will be cancelled; however the Center will remain open (fitness center, cards, etc.) If Metro/State offices are closed due to inclement weather, all FiftyForward Centers/ Offices will be closed.

And FYI, the deadline for submitting your 2017 tax return this year is Tuesday, April 17.

We will keep our phone message and Facebook page updated with the Center status in the event of inclement weather.
