THE WHISTLESTOP December 2018 Edition
Our Mission Established in 1956, FiftyForward supports, champions and enhances life for those 50 and older.
About Us:
Letter from the Center Director One of my favorite things about the Holiday season is spending time with the people I love and care about. I cannot think of a better place to be than here at FiftyForward Madison Station spending time with you! As the weather turns colder it is important to review our inclement weather policy. Please see the back panel for more details. If the conditions are unsafe for you and staff the center will be closed and programs canceled. The best thing to do when inclement weather strikes is to call the center to be sure we are open. Both our phone message and social media will have up to date information.
FiftyForward Madison Station is one of five lifelong learning centers in Davidson County and two in Williamson County. We offer various programs, classes and events monthly as well as access to the center amenities.
The center renovation projects will continue throughout the next year. As we navigate through the transition, our Advisory Council voted on re-naming some of the areas to better suit their new uses. The former Party Room is now the Activity Room and the former Puzzle and Genealogy Rooms are the Retreat Rooms.
Membership is $120 annually or $10 via monthly bank draft. We also accept Silver Sneakers® and Silver&Fit® reimbursement through some Medicare supplement plans. Scholarships are also available.
Sending you and your family Holiday Cheer!

Thanks to all who participated in our coffee tasting. We have our new coffee service up and flowing and are now brewing Webbs’ Golden Supreme coffee, roasted locally in Murfreesboro. Both regular and decaf coffee will be available daily. The coffee is complimentary, so please enjoy a cup! If you are interested in supporting our center’s coffee habit you can join our Coffee Club by making a donation at the front desk. —Brandy Lamb, Center Director
Letter from the Program Director I love when the center is decorated for Christmas! And this year we’ve added decorations to our front windows to participate in the Madison Rivergate Chamber’s Holiday Decorating Contest. See article inside to learn how you can help us win! All the decorations will get us into the spirit for our two big events this month— ‘A Dickens of a Holiday’ (see below) and Tasty Tuesday, featuring the FiftyForward Choraleers. For those of you that like to go on our day trips, please note our Trip List, which usually comes out on “T3” (Trippin’ Third Thursday), will be released instead on the second Thursday of the month due to the holidays. Wishing you the happiest of holidays this year! —Julie Reeves, Program Director
‘Dickens of a Holiday’ December 6
December and January Center Closings
Our Christmas present to our members this year is a special “Dickens of a Holiday” event on Thursday, December 6. As of press time, all the tickets, which are free to members, have been given out. However, you may put your name on a waiting list in case someone turns their ticket in. If you have a ticket and find you cannot use it, please stop by or call the office.
