KnowlesKnows October 2017 Knowles “We need you”—The month of October is a time for Knowles to shine in the community. We need our members to help radiate this light. There are two major events this month in which we need full participation from all Knowles members. Please... if you never support any activities within the center, please consider supporting these two awesome events.

The first event is a Health Fair. The Health Fair is October 12, 2017. We will begin the Health Fair with sign in and a light breakfast beginning at 9:00 a.m. There will be a Silver Sneakers demo class from 9:15 a.m.-9:45 a.m. followed by Vendor Presentations 9:45 a.m. 10:30 a.m. From 10:30 a.m.-11:45 a.m. we will visit the various Health Care and Health Screenings booths. At 12 noon we will have a sponsored lunch (please sign up early as there will be only 40 tickets for Knowles members) 1:00 -3:00 p.m. we will have classes (Social Security, Adult Abuse, Nutrition and Wellness) during this same time period, we will have on site pharmacy staff/students who are willing to see individuals in 10 minute increments to discuss any medication concerns or questions. There will be drawings at 9:45 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11:45 a.m. during the lunch and at the conclusion of each class. Please join us for this fun and informative day. There is no cost to attend.

The second event is a fundraising “Trash to Treasure” Sale. This event is October 26, 2017. “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure”. This will be a day of shopping, eating and fun. The day will begin with shopping 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m., at 11:00 -11:30 a.m. we will have our voting for our Chili-Cook-off. 11:30-1:00 p.m. You will have the opportunity to purchase chili, hot dogs, or visit our homemade baked goods booth, we will have entertainment during this time as well. 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. we will continue our booth shopping and enjoy the suspense surrounding our prize drawings for the winner of cook-off, booth card and give-a-ways.

$25.00 and you keep the proceeds from the sale at your booth

Halloween Party Tue Oct 31 at 11:00 am

If you are interested in participating in the Chili Cook-Off, we have 4 slots available.

Kim’s Korner FALL GREETINGS!

Happy Fall Y’all: We are excited that Fall has begun. Please take some time and read the newsletter throughout. We have some exciting activities planned for the month. Please pay particular attention to the dates October 12th and October 26th — Please note all activities are cancelled on these dates. We expect large crowds to be in attendance on both days as we enjoy our Health Fair and Fall Trash to Treasure sale. We look forward to two days of excitement and fun here at Knowles.

Save your pennies because there will be plenty of shopping to do on October 26, 2017. The proceeds from our Trash to Treasure sale will go to help us make improvement to our Game Room. We want to make this a room of fun and good times for many years to come.

What’s New ?

It’s that time of the year where what we eat becomes just as important as keeping our bodies physically fit.

To help address the challenges of staying fit during the holidays, we are partnering with a local university/ government agency to present “Get Moving and Eat Smart”. The class will be three weeks at length on Wednesdays from 10:45-12:15 a.m. There will be a gentle movements exercise portion of the program taught by our own Reghan , that will take place from 10:30-10:45 a.m. . Come start the Fall season off right with healthy eating and moving.

IT’S BACK!!!!!!!!! Tai Chi returns on October 25th at 10:15 a.m. Join us for this awesome class.

It’s fun time in the kitchen . You heard me correctly. The Kitchen is open to all cooks and those that play a cook on T.V. Seriously, Knowles will be offering one-day Cooking classes over the next months. This month will kick off our first class with Chef Cleveland of the Lost Spoon. There are only 6 slots available , so sign up quickly. The cost is $7.00, this includes the lesson and eating your masterpiece after the class. You cannot beat this awesome experience. The date of the Cooking Class is October 19th at 11:30 a.m. Stay Tuned for more up and coming classes to include Holiday Cooking Class and a Cooking Demo Class (November and December).

Its Enrollment time!!!!! Please join us at the Health Fair on October 12, 2017. If you are still undecided about enrollment in terms of Medicare , we will be hosting the Greater Nashville Regional Council - Area Agency on Aging and Disability—Tennessee SHIP program . They will be here on October 17, 2017 from 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. During this time , they will see members who would like to ask more in depth questions about Medicare or Medicare Enrollment. Please sign up for one of these slots if interested.

Reghan’s Remarks Happy October Month Everyone!! DID YOU KNOW… in the month of October is National Chili, Cookie, Pizza, Seafood and Dessert month?! We have to eat all the food! We are finally in Fall Ya’ll, who else is happy about that! We have a lot of fun fall activities for you and some great day trips to get us out and enjoy the good weather while it lasts! Please make sure to sign up, when you look over the calendar, for any events that you are interested in! Also, if there is anything that you would like to see on future calendars, please do not hesitate to come see me and share your ideas! So, lets start with the day trips.. We have lunch at South Street and Brunch at Holler and Dash. We also have a trip scheduled for the Movies and the Indian Pow Wow again this year! We have a couple Awareness classes coming up, one being a cooking Class that is going to be so fun and then a class on Bladder Awareness for men and women! And what would October be without an AWESOME HALLOWEEN PARTY!!! Go ahead and plan those scary costumes! We are going to have a blast this fall!

REMINDERS Gardening Club continues with our Fall Gardening . Please join us as we make decisions regarding our Fall Garden, our garden for 2018 and clean and prepare our beds and flowers for the up and coming winter season.

Knowles is starting a walking club . If you are interested in participating, please join us for the first meeting October 2, 2017 at 10:30 a.m.

You guessed it October is a time for Fall Fun!!!!! What better way to celebrate Fall than with a Halloween Party. Knowles will be hosting a Halloween Party on October 31, 2017. If you think last year’s was fun, wait to you see the fun time the Activity Committee plans for this year. The event will be Potluck. The center will provide the drinks . There will be costume contest and loads of scary fun.

Coming up…

Please join us for our Awareness Classes in October. We are focused on creating a wiser and healthier you. This month we will have a Bladder Health Presentation for both Men and Women on October 25th. The Men’s Class is 10:30 a.m. and the Women’s Class is at 11:30 a.m.

For the next three month’s we will have a class called Computer Connection. Each class is designed to keep you actively working on and connected to the computer until our Digital Literacy Classes resume in 2018. This month’s class is called “Facebook Fun.” The class will take a look at some of the fun things involved with Facebook and will involve us examining our Knowles Facebook page. This class will not be an attempt to teach you the ins and outs of Facebook, but will provide you with an overview of some of the fun ways it works.

Come learn more about the Facebook craze and see what’s happening with the Knowles Facebook page.

Its Game Time!!!!!!! This month’s game is Taboo. Come join us for a fun afternoon of Taboo and Tacos. We will choose teams on this day and have fun watching as clues are presented and taboo words are avoided. May the best team win!
