You are invited to help us celebrate the retirement of FiftyForward’s Executive Director, Janet Jernigan. It is with mixed emotions that we celebrate her departure from FiftyForward into the world of retirement. Janet has always been a very active person who loves to stay busy and physically fit, so we are sure she will find many fun things to do in her free time. We wish her the best, as she embarks on this new chapter. She will be missed, but we certainly look forward to all the positive things the future holds for both FiftyForward and Janet. Good Luck, Janet— FiftyForward Knowles members will certainly miss you. The celebration will take place Friday, November 30th 11:00am -1:00 pm

With change comes new promises. Please join FiftyForward in welcoming our New Executive Director, Sallie Hussey. We look forward to giving Ms. Hussey an official FiftyForward Knowles welcome when she arrives on board October 29, 2018.

We are celebrating Thanksgiving in style this year. This year the All of Us initiative will be sponsoring our “Thankful Lunch”.

All are welcome to attend, however, you must sign up at the front office.

Kim’s Korner Welcome Fall!!! What a beautiful start to the Fall season. Just as we prepare for the season’s change, we must prepare ourselves for the fun fall schedule ahead. Get out your big sweaters, cozy hats, and gloves to come enjoy the crisp air and fun activities we have planned.

November and December always appear to be whirlwind months that pass us by at lightening speed! This year November will bring a few days of center closures. Please mark your calendar for the following dates that the Center will be closed: 

November 2nd — The center is closed for a FiftyForward Staff Retreat.



November 22 and 23rd — The center will be closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Stay tuned for some exciting times at FiftyForward Knowles. November is filled with exciting events and December is filled with fun day trips. Please remember we always offer the option to pay on your events and day trips ahead of time, to allow those on a budget to pay for the more expensive day trips in multiple payments.

I want to challenge some of the individuals who have not taken full advantage of their memberships, to give us a try in 2019. Do not spend another year alone. Join us for the many fun activities your membership includes!

Lastly, join us for a fun, end of the year celebration! FiftyForward Knowles will be having a Friday Night Holiday Dinner and Dance at the Knowles Center. The event is Friday, December 14, 2018 from 6:00 p.m.9:00 p.m. The tickets are $20.00.

What’s Happening ...

Join us on Monday, November 12th for our Meeting of the Minds. If you ever desired an opportunity to have input on programming within the center, then this is your opportunity.

The event that starts at 11:30 is a fun and creative way that we will brainstorm together ways to enhance our programming for 2019.

You will not want to miss this month’s First Monday Lunch. This luncheon will feature the ALIAS CHAMBER ENSEMBLE and will be a celebration where multiple centers will be our guest. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to see these awesome performers or to share in the fun with members from other FiftyForward Centers. Monday, November 5th at Noon, the cost is $6.00.

Senior Nutrition Class is back. Please join us Thursday, November 8th at 11:00 a.m.

Join us for a Christmas Movie. What a way to kick off the Christmas Season. We will have a movie and fun day on Wednesday, November 28, 2018. Join us for a movie, popcorn, prizes and more. The fun starts at 12:30 p.m.

Membership fees to increase January 1— members can participate in all seven centers!

Effective January 2019, Fifty Forward center membership fees will increase to $12*a month. Our centers offer lifelong learning and engaging programs (Arts, exercise and education) and access to resources to live true to the FiftyForward mission: to support, champion and enhance life for those 50 and older.

Five of the seven FiftyForward lifelong learning centers are among the elite 1% of centers in the United States, recognized by the National Institute of Senior Centers, for quality and effectiveness.

As a nonprofit agency, we rely on proceeds for annual membership and program fees, special events, local government grants and funders, active volunteers and other thoughtful and generous community Supporters to provide engagement opportunities for older adults.

FiftyForward has not raised membership rates in eight years. This increase will offset the costs we are seeing to maintain our lifelong learning centers and programs.

For $12 month, you can participate in ALL seven FiftyForward Centers. 

This new exciting program seeks to enroll 1,000,000 participants from diverse backgrounds to improve the health of future generations.
