Solar Eclipse Time!

Join us for a month of Solar Eclipse activities leading up to the big event.

Monday, August 7th 10:45 a.m.-We will have a professor from Austin Peay State University speaking on the Solar Eclipse. There will be viewing glasses for sale. The cost is $2.00 for the glasses. There is no cost to attend the class. Please sign up early , so we will know how many glasses to have available.

Monday, August 14th at 1:00 p.m., we will have a Solar Eclipse Bingo Game. We are asking that those of you who have baking skills, to bring an “out of this world dessert”. We will have dessert and coffee.

You do not have to bring a dessert to attend and there is no cost to play Eclipse Bingo.

Monday, August 21st we will have an Eclipse Watch Party.

You heard it correctly. We are having a watch party.

Join us from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.-with a T.V. watch or just hanging out discussing the big event with friends.

The party will be begin at 12:00 noon with a Potluck Lunch (sign up at the center—NO DESSERTS ARE NEEDED) followed by 12:30-1:00 p.m. Games and Give-A-Ways. 1:00 p.m. we will move outside and prepare ourselves with our viewing glasses. The current schedule for the Eclipse is 1:27 p.m. CDT The cost to attend is $3.00 . The cost will cover the meat and MOON pies and SUNdaes ( we will not have glasses for sale at the party, so

make sure you get some early) YOU MUST HAVE VIEWING GLASSES TO ATTEND THE VIEWING OF THE ECLIPSE. Please review the Safety Rules posted at the center.

Kim’s Korner It’s an Awesome August in the Atmosphere! We have some exciting things planned for the month of August. Please check out our newest exercise classes. We have Tai Chi on Fridays at 9:30 a.m. and on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. we will have a Senior Strength and Conditioning class. If you have spent some time exercising , but would like to learn some strengthening techniques , then join us for this fun class.

Also, I know summer is a time for vacation and outdoors activities, but our turnout for summer day trips has been low. We have three awesome trips planned this month to include the infamous Blue Herron day trip.

Please sign up early, because this one is popular. For our art lovers , we have a trip to the Clay Lady . Last but not least, we have a day trip scheduled to the Nashville hit Slim and Husky’s. This restaurant has been the talk of the town. Do not miss out on this day trip.

To round out our August fun , our Inspiration classes are back, as well as a new Laptop Learning class and Walk with Ease. We will finish the month of August with a Pre-Labor Day Celebration . Don’t forget to check out the cool awareness classes for August. Also, don’t miss our Solar Eclipse Watch party—see the rules for viewing the solar eclipse below. Also, in August it’s Movie Month. August 2, 2017 will have a Movie Day at 1:30 p.m. –3:00 p.m. Join us for a Movie , Popcorn and Drinks.

NEVER LOOK AT THE UNECLIPSED SUN with

just your eyes.

Your eye is like a small magnifying glass, focusing light on the back of the eye. Focusing direct sunlight on the retina will damage it, often permanently. There are no pain receptors in the retina, so damage can occur that you will not feel or possibly notice until hours later. Do not sunburn your eye! Your skin can peel; your eye cannot. So never ever look at the uneclipsed Sun without a proper filter between you and the Sun. TO LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE SUN SAFELY: Approved Solar Glasses Good solar eclipse glasses filter out all of the harmful ultraviolet and infrared light and almost all of the intense visible light to allow you to view the eclipse safely.

What’s New ?

Strengthening and Conditioning for Seniors Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. August 3-31, 2017 This class will involve the use of bands, balls, ropes and weights. Come on give it a try.

Tai Chi —Fridays at 9:30 a.m. Come on give it a try

Awareness Class—- Tuesday, August 1st at 10:30 a.m. We have a new Keurig Coffee Maker at the center. This will allow you to make your own coffee, hot chocolate and tea. Sounds exciting! You can either buy your K-Cup at the front desk or bring your own to use. Come join us for the training on how to use the Keurig Coffee Maker.

Reghan’s Remarks HAPPY AUGUST EVERYONE!! Fun fact for this month: August is the last of the summer months… which means a little cooler weather is headed our way. We only have two more months of the garden group but it is never too late to join so if anyone is interested in participating, we meet on Fridays at 11:30 am! That also means only two more months of the men meeting every other week of the month but we would like to continue a men’s group so if any of you men have good ideas please come and meet with me and lets see what we can get started! We have a lot of fun things going on this month from some great day trips to new classes starting up, so make sure to look over the calendar and give us a call or visit the front desk to get your name on any class/trip you are interested in! We do not want you to miss out. And last but not least, I want to thank all of our Knowles members for making this such a special place to be at each and every day.

REMINDERS August is Movie Month During the month of August the Center will be sponsoring the movie for the Movie Group . Come join us for some of the great movies of 2016 at 12 noon on Wednesdays. 
