Deloitte Technology Day Thursday, June 4 from 10 am– 1 pm Technology professionals from Deloitte will be at FiftyForward Donelson Station to help you with your technology questions. Bring your laptop, tablet, i-pad, phone, etc. and a Deloitte volunteer will be happy to sit with you one-on-one and discuss your technical device. This event only happens ONCE a year, so make sure to take advantage of this FREE event!

Dear Friends: Thanks so much to those of you who have made donations to the center. Remember that all donations made by June 30 to Donelson Station or Senior Center for the Arts will be MATCHED! We are excited to extend our hours Monday-Thursday to stay open until 7 pm tentatively beginning June 15. We hope this will allow more members to enjoy the center. Spread the news!

The Advisory Council is an important part of the center, helping Program Director us make important decisions—what needs to be offered, changed Lisa Maddox lmaddox@fiftyforward.org or improved and how to do it! Many of our current Advisory Council members are rolling off after serving their maximum time according to the by-laws. We thank them for their service. We will need new members to offer new ideas and leadership. This is a SCA Administrator great opportunity to help YOUR center. Please consider joining Jamie London the Advisory Council. Dear Friends, I have planned a lot of fun things for June! I would still love to hear your ideas for July and August too! We had a group attend the Sounds game in May, and they had a great time. I want to invite those interested in going to a Sunday, 2 pm game in July to stop by my office, and I will jot your name down! I do not want to buy tickets ahead of time unless I know I can fill up the van!

I hope more people start taking advantage of the presentations and educational sessions that we offer for FREE! Deloitte Technology Day is one that many of you should really take part in on June 4. Not only are they volunteering their time that day, but many will return June 5 to work on theatre improvements!

Booktalk Tues., June 9 at 10 am Looking for a good read? The librarian from the Hermitage Library will be here on the second Tuesday of each month at 10 am presenting booktalk. Booktalk is what is conveyed to convince someone to read a book. The Booktalker gives the audience a glimpse of the setting, characters, and conflict without providing the resolution. Booktalks make listeners care enough about the content to want to read the book. She will discuss at least two books each session. This is FREE!

Event/Class Updates 2015 COMPUTER CLASSES All classes are $20 for members and $30 for non-members (unless otherwise noted).

Classes are on Saturdays from 9-11 am (4 classes per month).

Twitter—June 6-27 Get started using this social media network for professional networking and development. This course will explain how Twitter works, how to create an account, understand different “tweets” and how to build relationships with other users.

Basic Computer Skills—July 11-Aug. 1 You will learn about the basic parts of a computer, how to turn it off and on, and how to use a mouse.

Arthritis Foundation’s Walk With Ease We have had great success in May with our “Walk With Ease” Program. Congrats to those who have started this journey to a better life by just taking time out of their day to walk! This is NOT a competition! We have all levels of walkers, and we accommodate everyone.

Even if you are only able to do a lap around the building once, that’s ok! If you keep it up, you will notice that your endurance will increase, and you will start feeling better. It’s not too late to join! We meet Mondays and Wednesdays at 9:30 am in the front lobby.

Horticulture Therapist, Sarah Nowicki, will be here every Monday in June and July at 10 am. Hiking Club-Fri., June 5. Enjoy a 3.1 mile hike in beautiful Bledsoe Creek State Park in Gallatin. The Sate Park Loop Trail features gorgeous lakes and scenery. Mystery Lunch #1 and #2-Mon., June 8 OR Tues., June 9. Joe and the mystery gang venture to a secret dining spot in the Nashville area. If you like to be surprised and try new places to eat, this trip is for you!

Booktalk– Tues., June 9 at 10 am. Hermitage Library’s Debbie Bischoff shares glimpses of the setting, the characters and major conflicts of particular books that she has read. She will use props and speak in generalities in order to entice you to read the book. This is a great way to learn about new books and see if they interest you. Strawberry Picking and lunch at Bottom View Farms–Wed., June 10. Bottom View Farms, in Portland, TN., is home to beautiful rolling hills covering 400 acres. Trinity Music City Tour-Thurs., June 11. We will tour the former Conway Twitty Mansion and Gardens while learning about the history of Conway’s extraordinary career. Oral Health Community Workshop– Wed., June 17 from 1:30 –2:30 pm. Oral Health America and The American Dental Hygienist's Association are presenting an oral health education workshop for older adults throughout Nashville. The workshop, Tooth Wisdom: Get Smart About Your Mouth, contains volunteer dental hygienists, trained on preventative health education and working with older adults. This is a FREE workshop! Nashville Ghost Tour in a Hearse-Thurs., June 18. Yes! You heard it right! We will depart on an hour journey to some of Nashville’s most eerie sites in a converted New Orleans hearse as our driver uncovers hauntings surrounding the ghosts of Union Station, the infamous “Murders on Music Row”, and Nashville’s oldest cemetery. The cost is $27 for the tour, van ride and parking. Leave the center at 7 pm.

Author Jean Roseman Presentation– Mon., June 22 at 10:00 am. Jean Roseman, Ed.D. is a retired Metro teacher of German and Holocaust history. Since retirement, she has researched and published information on the history of Nashville’s Jewish community. Her current book, Barney and Clyde, An Illustrated Tale of Murder and Madness, is about a hushed up axe murder that took place on Fourth Avenue in 1884 with a totally unexpected and bizarre outcome. Come learn about this little known dramatic event in Nashville’s history. This event is FREE! Please sign up.

Nutrition Presentation with Health Coach Kelly Ann Monahan-Mon., June 29 at 10 am. Integrative nutrition coach, author, speaker and founder of Sweetie Pie Health & Harmony, Kelly Monahan, will be here to speak about living a healthier lifestyle and reducing inflammation in the body through clean eating.

Using songs from the upcoming 2015-2016 season, campers will create and transform an original story into a grand musical theatre production to be performed at camp’s end on Friday, June 19. Campers will learn music, choreography, direction, and costume/prop development in addition to building actor skills with theatre exercises, games, techniques, dance, and more!!!

“The Boards” in theatre refer to boards on which the stage is constructed. In these fun and age appropriate camps, teaching artists will skillfully guide younger campers in creating their own play using picture books to inform and support ideas and “script”, working toward their work in progress performance on “the boards” Friday afternoons. These camps focus on beginning actor skills, communication and cooperation for theatre and beyond.
