Letter from the Director Dear Turner Center Members, Thank you to all of our members who donated to the holiday gift and toy drive benefiting military families at the Nashville Vet Center. We had over 150 toys donated for this very worthwhile organization! We are excited to announce that effective December 1st, Candace Waligora, went fulltime. Candace will be starting evening/ weekend programming targeting the baby boomer population. The first program offering will be a 6 week beginning acrylic painting class starting on Tuesday, 1/21/14 from 5:30-7:30pm. Additional information about these new programs coming soon! Recent Happenings Mystery Trip For the December Mystery Trip, a group of 9 Turner Center members did a service project at Claiborne-Hughes Health Center in Franklin. During their visit, the members had an opportunity to spend quality time with the residents and help them make a Christmas wreath ornament. You could see the smiles on the faces of the residents as they received a friendly visit from our caring members. Following this service project, participants enjoyed lunch together at the Bunganut Pig in Franklin. If you missed out on this Mystery Trip, be sure to sign-up for our next one on Wednesday, 1/29/14.

Ask The Social Worker Every month, we will be featuring a section where you can pose questions for a social worker at FiftyForward. One of the great benefits of being a member of the FiftyForward J. L. Turner Center is that you have access to the multitude of other programs that our agency offers. We would like to provide you with services that you need to stay
independent for as long as possible. Look for a box in the Turner Center Lobby to pose your questions! Examples of questions to ask would be regarding home health care, help with driving to the doctor and other assistance programs.

Volunteer Opportunities Make it a Day On! FiftyForward Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) Special Activity for the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service Monday, January 20, 2014 Create greeting cards Volunteers age 55 and over are invited to a card making event at Second Presbyterian Church. There are two sessions – 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Volunteers are invited to bring children; all children must be accompanied by an adult age 55 or older and the adult is responsible for supervising the child during the card making process. The cards will be used by FiftyForward’s Living at Home program; Meals on Wheels; and the American Red Cross Service to Armed Forces. Sort donated food In addition to the card making project, FiftyForward RSVP will again deliver emergency food boxes to Meals on Wheels recipients. The boxes will contain shelf-stable food for consumption on those days when inclement weather prevents regular delivery of hot meals The packing and delivery will happen out of the FiftyForward Meals on Wheels location at Second Presbyterian Church at 3511 Belmont Boulevard starting at 10 a.m. All volunteers must register to ensure enough space and supplies.
