Anyone who has ever been on Kathy McFarlane’s table knows just how therapeutic massage therapy can be. But massage is just one of many things we can do to take care of ourselves. At Potluck this January 21st, Kathy and fellow massage therapists, Donna Scales and Donna Jensen, will discuss ideas and tips for better self care. And there’s a bonus: They will also give shoulder and neck massages to those who want them. What better way to start the new year!

Many of you already know Donna Scales. She grew up in College Grove and has substituted massage for Kathy at the Center. You may not be as familiar with Donna Jensen, who will begin offering massage at the Center on Tuesdays starting in February. Plan to meet and greet with our massage therapists at Potluck this January 21st. Lunch is at 11:30, and the program will begin about noon. The Center provides the main course. Please bring a side dish.

Clara Vaughn, who performed at the Center with The Dulcimer Dandies Band in October, has agreed to offer monthly dulcimer lessons here! Plus, if there are any two among you who are curious about learning to play, but don’t have a dulcimer, Clara has two extras and is willing to bring them. Classes will be held on first Tuesdays beginning Jan. 6, at 9:30.

The first class will last an hour, but future classes may run longer. Class fee is $2 for members and $5 for non-members. If you want to reserve one of Clara’s extra dulcimers, be sure and indicate on the sign up sheet.

RED HATS MEET JAN. 28 TO PLAN FOR 2015 The Red Hat Society will gather at the Center on Jan. 28 at 10 a.m. to plan some fun and interesting trips for 2015. It’s a nice morning, and everyone brings lunch to enjoy after the planning meeting.

PLAY DOMINOES JAN. 16 AND 30 I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended our baby shower. Daniel and I appreciate all the generous gifts and support. We could not have asked for a more fabulous party. Thanks to Kathy, Libby and Pat for all their planning and decorating. We are excited to get My Senior Center, a web based program that will simplify how we enter and track membership data. With this much needed technology upgrade, we will be using a brand new scanning system for checking in at the front desk. Your current FiftyForward card will still work. The touch screen will be much larger and you will be able to select specific activities and classes rather than just general categories. We need your help to ensure you select the correct activity/class for the day. The system is very user friendly, but we will have staff here to assist you. As with anything new, there will be a period of adjustment as we all get used to the new transition. Please ask if you have questions. We hope to have the new system up and running the middle of January. Thank you. Happy New Year!
