It's Fall Y'all

What’s your favorite season? For some of us, it is definitely Fall! The air is crisper, the leaves change colors, and we can enjoy more time outdoors. Autumn with its more comfortable weather makes it easier to enjoy fun activities like hiking, apple, and pumpkin picking, hayrides, and real Fall activities like visiting a corn maze. It’s a great time to visit our lovely Tennessee parks (maybe even rent a cabin for a quick getaway), check out a farmers’ market, or tailgate ahead of your favorite college football team. Fall is also a signal to take care of business like getting a flu shot, winterizing our homes and yards, and getting out our cool weather clothes. Whether you enjoy this season with a pumpkin spice latte, an apple cider, or a pumpkin pie, autumn is the perfect time of year to relax ahead of the hustle and bustle of the holidays.

National Hispanic Heritage Month

In 1988, President George H.W. Bush designated September 15 to October 15 each year as National Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to celebrate and recognize Hispanic Americans' achievements. FiftyForward joins in celebrating the tremendous achievements of Americans of Hispanic heritage Last year FiftyForward was proud to host the virtual event, "Hispanic Voices of Nashville" to share the wisdom of some of our Hispanic neighbors. Digital Literacy

As Nashville’s premier provider of innovative programs and services, FiftyForward is offering classes and individual tech help sessions to help members develop computer skills and better utilize technology.

From ordering groceries to taking and treasuring photos, Facetiming with grandchildren, watching a Zoom class, making a doctor’s appointment, to applying for a fun part-time job or volunteer position – the use of technology has become more of a necessity than a convenience.

Beginning in October at FiftyForward Knowles, FiftyForward Madison Station, and FiftyForward Donelson Station, FREE Tech Support Help will be offered on Wednesday afternoons. In partnership with a Digital Literacy grant from the West End Home Foundation, teens and young adults will assist FiftyForward in piloting the Tech Support Help program. Who better to provide hands-on computer and cell phone skills than young people who grew up with technology?

See the calendar section of the newsletter for specific dates, times, and registration information.

We need technology… because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world. - David Warlick
