Center Dinner and Concert Featuring Exit 219 Thursday, July 28 at 5:15 pm This month we will have a center dinner instead of a lunch. Don’t miss our featured band, Exit 219! Their music repertoire spans the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, plus Christian, patriotic, jazz standards and contemporary songs. Exit 219 consists of nine members including Jeannie Gleaves (piano), Gary Sinz (drums), Joe Gleaves (drums), David Keith (sound), Mark Perkins (Bass/keyboard), Brian Caldwell (tenor), Debbie Keith (alto), Cathy Caldwell (2nd soprano) and Gabrielle Troster (soprano). They have been featured throughout the years at state and county fairs, street festivals, sock hops and high school reunions. Come out and enjoy a delicious dinner from the Palm Tree Café, and put your dancing shoes on because you are NOT going to sit down once this group starts playing. Nashville Public Library FREE Technology Fair at Donelson Station on Wednesday, July 22 from 10 am –2 pm The Nashville Public Library will host a FREE Technology Fair just for FiftyForward members. Staff from the Nashville Public Library will be on site to demonstrate technology products that are available for patrons to check out, teach an IPAD class, answer questions about social media and much, much more. Beginners and experienced users will learn about digital products, classes offered at the library and online services that interest them the most. Come see the devices that everyone is talking about. CENTER MEMBERSHIP FiftyForward Donelson Station is one of five active aging centers in Davidson County and two in Williamson County. These centers offer various programs, classes and events monthly as well as access to the center amenities. Membership is $120 annually or $10 via monthly bank draft. Center Director Notes… Dear Friends: Lisa has done a great job again with this month’s great events and trips. I hope you take advantage of all we have to offer. Thank you to those who contributed to this year’s matching campaign, which totaled more than $9,000! These funds will be matched by a generous donor and will help cover the center’s overhead costs, which aren’t met by membership revenue alone. New 2016-17 Advisory Council members were elected June 23rd: Roberta Campbell, Mary Cox, Evelyn Cutler, Karen Dotter, Jack Frank, David Kattau, and Kaye Petersen. Center members are welcome to attend meetings. We meet the 4th Thursday monthly. I have some changes and updates to report. We will NO longer be having a Fashion Show here at Donelson Station. Chico’s district office cannot honor the discounts that our models were offered, making it too hard to do a show. Don’t worry, we have lots more to look forward to in the upcoming months. Lastly, our talent show will be moved to Wednesday, August 31 due to some scheduling conflicts. I have a few people signed up to participate but we need more!!! My door is always open to hear your ideas!

The Talent Show has been moved to August 31 at 10 am. There have been a few people sign up, but we need more acts. This can be a silly, comedy act, a singing act or anything you wish! Lunch will also be provided by The Palm Tree Café. The cost will be $8.
August Center Luncheon with Steven Whitson Save the Date!!! Steven Whitson is a Nashville recording artist and songwriter born and raised in the small town of Trimble in West Tennessee. He has released 12 independent CD’s and opened for Rascal Flatts, Craig Morgan, Marty Stuart and Aaron Tippin. He performs at Barbara Mandrell’s Mansion, The Fontanel, and has been signed to their new label, Fontanel Records. Steven has debuted on the “Marie Osmond Show” on the Hallmark Channel and works with his mentor, Brenda Lee. Steven will be here on August 24 at 11 am. Do not miss his performance!

Mah Jongg We are excited to have an experienced Mah Jongg teacher at Donelson Station. Suzette Sutton is well versed in the American and Chinese version of Mah Jongg that is played with a variation of tiles. It requires four people at each table. Mah Jongg is a game of skill, strategy, and calculation and involves a degree of chance. This is the first time we have ever offered Mah Jongg. If you are interested, sign up in the front office or at the volunteer desk. The lessons will be each Thursday at 10 am beginning on July 14.
Silver Sneakers is Coming! FiftyForward Donelson Station will soon be a Silver Sneakers site. If you’re Medicare Advantage Plan offers access to fitness centers through Silver Sneakers, you may be able to have your FiftyForward membership paid for you! We are working out the details at the time of printing the Depot, so please check back with us soon on when this goes into effect. Remember, we are already a Silver&Fit site, an additional program through Medicare Advantage plans. Unsure if your plan qualifies? Let a staff member check! Book Talk The librarian from The Hermitage Library will be here on July 19 at 2 pm. She recommends book titles to book enthusiasts without giving away the entire storyline. Pet Community Center The Pet Community Center’s mobile unit will be in our parking lot on Saturday, July 30 from 9 am-1 pm. Services are $15 and under including vaccinations, microchips, and preventatives for fleas, ticks and heartworms. No appointments are necessary. Just show up!
Cap Tel & Summit Audiology Cap Tel provides FREE captioned telephones for people experiencing hearing loss. A Cap Tel Representative will be in our hallway on Wed., July 20 at 1 pm to assist those who may qualify for a FREE phone. Stop by and see her to get more information. New Bus We are happy to announce that the new “bus” is here!!! We are now able to transport 14 people instead of 12, so this opens up more spots for our trips. The bus is comfortable, roomy and the air conditioning works great! Don’t forget that every van or “bus” is not the smoothest ride when it comes to hitting bumps in the road. TRIPS/EVENTS CONTINUED... Brunch at Pfunky Griddle and shopping at Gas Lamp Antiques-Wed., July 20 at 9:45 am. The customers are the cooks at the Pfunky Griddle. This family friendly restaurant provides all the toppings for your pancakes and eggs. They also have espresso and gourmet coffee. After brunch we will head to the Gas Lamp Antiques shop, one of the largest antique malls in TN. This is FREE to everyone! Make sure to take advantage of this and learn all the different resources that the NPL has available to you. There will be different stations that you can visit to learn about social media/ Facebook, smart phones, Google, NPL databases and more! They will also hold multiple IPAD classes. There is no need to sign up, just show up. Elder Attorney Barbara Moss-Mon., July 25 from 1-3 pm. There are six 30-minute appointments available to gain legal advice from Elder Attorney Barbara Moss. Ms. Moss can help you with Veteran’s Benefits, Medicaid/Tenncare planning, conservatorships, estate planning and probate. Appointments begin at 1 and end at 3. You must have an appointment. Lost River Cave Trip in Bowling Green, KY-Tues., July 26 at 9 am. This cave boat tour begins with a leisurely stroll in the valley as our guide shares the tale of the blue hole and disappearing Civil War soldiers. When you arrive at the cave entrance, prepare to board Kentucky’s only underground boat tour. This hour-long tour includes a 20-minute walk to the cave entrance and a 30-minute boat ride through the cave. You MUST be physically able to do this tour. There are steps that lead down to the cave and a path that is on a 30 degree slope descending towards the cave. On the boat ride, there is an area where you must duck your head to your knees. After the boat ride we will have lunch at Mariah’s, a local favorite that serves delicious dishes including Hot Derby Brown, salads, steaks and much more! *REFUND POLICY ON TRIPS AND EVENTS* To ensure members have adequate opportunity to attend trips and events and that staff time and center resources are properly utilized, the following polices must be followed:
All trips require a minimum of five people. Trips not meeting the minimum number will be cancelled 24 hours in advance, and credit will be given to those already signed up. When you sign up for a trip or presentation/event, you are making a commitment to this activity and are responsible for putting it on your calendar and showing up on time. Please remember that presenters work hard to bring education/information to the center! If you cancel 24 hours before a trip occurs, you will receive a credit toward another trip. A ticketed trip/event will not be refunded or credited. If you sign up for a ticketed trip/event, you must find someone to take your place. Cancelling or not showing up for three or more trips within a month will result in being placed on a waiting list the following month for all trips. There are no cash refunds for any trips/events. Exceptions may be considered by the Center Director in extreme situations.

Bring your coloring book or crochet project and meet up with “old” and “new” friends. This is a time to talk, relax and explore your creative side. If you would like to learn to crochet, we have a couple of experienced members who will assist you. Sing-Along Choir meets Fridays at 11 am (resuming September 9). This group has a lot of fun!
