CENTER MEMBERSHIP FiftyForward Donelson Station is one of five active aging centers in Davidson County and two in Williamson County. These centers offer various programs, classes and events monthly as well as access to the center amenities.

Membership is $10 per month payable annually for $120 or via a $10 monthly bank draft.

Membership at Donelson Station also allows you to access most of the other centers. Check out the Forward Focus magazine in the center or www.fiftyforward.org for other center information.

I am asking our members to show us some support at our upcoming softball game against Madison Station on Friday, April 29 at 10 am. We will be playing at the Civitan field in Donelson. Bring your family and friends! The Palm Tree Café will be grilling burgers and supplying lunch (including drink) for $7. Joe Baker will make a guest appearance as our official umpire. Sign up today and pray for good weather.

Some highlights coming in May include a trip to The Bluebird Café, Senior Day on the General Jackson, the Strawberry Festival in Portland, shopping at the Flea Market (Fairgrounds) and our Primetime Players show. Computer Classes Basic Internet Skills classes will begin Monday, April 18 at 10 am. This is a 4-week class.

The cost is $30 for members and $60 for non-members. Learn how to use the internet, what an internet browser is, a URL, a domain name, and the difference between the internet address field and internet search field. The computer lab has four desktops. Two students can bring laptops for the class. Sign up in the office or at the volunteer desk.

Beginner’s Bridge Class We are starting an 8-week Basic Bridge Class on Tuesday, April 5 at 10 am.

No experience is needed. We invite anyone who has an interest in learning bridge. This is FREE! Make sure to sign up in the front office or at the volunteer desk. This is a great cognitive workout and improves your memory.

Hiking Club-Fri., April 8. Join us for the outdoors and exercise! We will head downtown to hike the Cumberland Greenway, a multi-use trail that follows the winding course of the Cumberland River.

We will access the trail by LP field and will hike about three miles. Be sure you are able to endure this distance and are able to walk briskly. Dress appropriately and bring water. Cost for the van is $5.

Leave the center at 8:30 am. (Note: The walking club will not meet at the Kohl’s Greenway on 4/8).

Our Muslim Neighbor Presentation-Tues., April 12 at 10 am. We are excited to have a speaker from The Faith & Culture Center present the “Our Muslim Neighbor” initiative which aims to address attitudes and behaviors towards American Muslims and Islam. The speaker will address public fears, media biases, and educate us about the religion of Islam and the Muslim culture. This is a FREE event. Sign up in the front office or at the volunteer desk.

Candle Making Class-Thurs., April 14 at 10 am. Betty Jean, the candle making queen, has been teaching candle making for over 14 years and wants to share her expertise with us. Author Carol Anderson Presents “Pawprints of Wisdom”-Wed., April 20 at 9:45 am. When a muddy, matted stray dog appeared at Carol Anderson’s front door, little did she know the laughs, lessons, and good times that were in store. Join local author, Carol Anderson, as she shares her personal and touching story about her four-legged fur baby and the life lessons that our pets teach us. This is FREE! Tour of TBI (TN Bureau of Investigation)-Thurs., April 21. This is such an exciting opportunity!

Learn the history of how TBI was created and all of the duties that TBI handles along with a tour of the Forensic Lab. There is some walking involved and the tour lasts about 1.5 hours. We will have lunch at Ruby Tuesday after the tour. Leave the center at 9:45 am. Cost for the van is $5.

Country Living Fair-Fri., April 22. Head to Lebanon to explore all of the goodies at the Country Living Fair. Tons of shopping (over 100 vendors), antiques, delicious food and so much more. Leave the center at 9:30 am. Cost for your ticket and the van is $22. Remember this is a ticketed event which means NO CREDITS!

Victory Over Crime Presentation-Mon., April 25 at 9:45 am Learn the facts about scams to protect your hard earned money. Don’t let the criminals take advantage of you! Sign up for this FREE program.

Art Trunk Training-Tues., April 26 at 10 am. Carolyn O’Neil will be teaching the art trunk this month, which reflects the current Frist Center exhibit. You will learn about Treasures from the House of Alba, which belonged to one of the most prominent families in Spain. Carolyn will teach art activities that pertain to the exhibit. The supplies and the training is FREE!!! Come have fun and get creative!! Make sure to sign up in the office or at the volunteer desk.

Health Fair-Wed., April 27 at 10 am-12 pm. Visit with lots of health care professionals located in Davidson County. There will be educational materials, health screenings and LOTS of door prizes. You have to be present to win. Don’t miss this! See the front page for more information.

Supper Club-Thurs., April 28. Dinner will be at the Green Hills Grill. Enjoy fish tacos, shrimp and grits, Thai fried chicken salad, grilled chicken penne and lots of delicious desserts. Dinner prices range from $13-$20. Cost for the van is $6. Leave the center at 5 pm.

Softball Game-Fri., April 29 at 10 am. Play ball! Everyone is invited to see Donelson Station vs. Madison Station at our first ever softball game at the Donelson Civitan field located at 241 Downeymeade Dr. The Palm Tree Café will be grilling our lunch at the park. Lunch is $7 (includes hamburger, chips, cookie and a drink). Sign up for the lunch by April 28. Joe Baker will be our umpire, so if you have missed him this is your chance to see him. We hope you all come out for a day of fun!

Keeton Kids Performing Arts Summer Camp 2016 Tues., May 31-Fri., June 10 from 9 am - 3 pm Campers, ages 6-12, will be cast in the ensemble for Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Musical running June 9–25.

The camp will build confidence and expand skills in a social performance setting. Through exploration of musical theatre, campers will learn acting techniques for their roles, scenes, and vocals for the play’s musical numbers.

Participation in the production is not required. Please let us know if your camper will be in the play at the start of camp week so we may plan accordingly. No experience needed!  Have you experienced the loss of a loved one? The Grief and Loss Group meets Sunday, April 3 at 2 pm at St. Phillips’ Church located at 85 Fairway Drive in Donelson. They also play cards the 4th Thursday monthly at Donelson Station at 9:30 am.  We welcome anyone who has a April birthday to join us for cake on Thursday, April 28 at 1 pm.

Tailgating Share a snack with the aerobics group Fridays after class! Just show up!  Join Color & Crochet on Fridays at 10 am. Bring your coloring book or crochet project and meet up with “old” and “new” friends. This is a time to talk, relax and explore your creative side. If you would like to learn to crochet, we have a couple of experienced members who will assist you.  Sing-Along Choir meets Fridays at 11 am. This group has a lot of fun! They even take their show on the road to assisted living centers in the area. Just show up! st rd  Let’s Bowl! Join us the 1 and 3 Fridays at 2 pm at the Strike & Spare in Donelson located at 2710 Old Lebanon Rd! Shoe rental $1 and $1 per game! You can’t beat that! 

All trips require a minimum of five people. Trips not meeting the minimum number will be cancelled 24 hours in advance, and credit will be given to those already signed up.

When you sign up for a trip or presentation/event, you are making a commitment to this activity and are responsible for putting it on your calendar and showing up on time. Please remember that presenters work hard to bring education/information to the center!

If you cancel 24 hours before a trip occurs, you will receive a credit toward another trip.

A ticketed trip/event will not be refunded or credited. If you sign up for a ticketed trip/event, you must find someone to take your place on the trip.

Cancelling or not showing up for three or more trips within a month will result in being placed on a waiting list the following month for all trips.

There are no cash refunds for any trips/events.

Exceptions may be considered by the Center Director in extreme situations.
