Additionally, we just found out that the company that pays us for our recycling is no longer offering the service and will be removing the dumpsters. We are trying to find another company to provide recycling pickup. In the meantime, please take your recycling to Omohundro Place or other recycling center. I am so thankful for our Center, staff and volunteers and hope you are too. Please have a wonderful Thanksgiving and remember to vote on November 6 if you haven’t already! Thanks! Sincerely, Angela Bryan

Program Director Notes…. Hi Gang! We have lots to be thankful for this month. I am so thankful for our members and the success of this center. This month let’s focus on thanking our veterans who ensure our freedom everyday. I hope you will join us Friday, November 9 to show your appreciation to our veterans at our Veterans Center Luncheon. Everyone is welcome to come. Bring your friends and family as we honor those that have served in our military. Veterans are FREE! Also, with the holidays approaching think how you can spread some holiday cheer by just being kind and helpful to others. A friendly smile and a “hello” can go a long way. Warm regards, Lisa Maddox

Membership Fees to Increase January 1, 2019 Effective January 2019, FiftyForward center membership fees will increase to $12 a month via bank draft or $144 annually. As a nonprofit agency, we rely on proceeds from annual membership and program fees, special events, local government grants and funders, active volunteers and other thoughtful and generous community supporters to provide engagement opportunities for older adults. FiftyForward has not raised membership rates in eight years. This increase will offset the rising costs we are seeing to maintain our lifelong learning centers and programs. Be aware that you can renew your membership at anytime (before it expires) to keep the $120 rate for at least one more year. Bank draftees will not see an increase until their 2019 membership expiration. See staff for more information. *TRIPS AND EVENTS POLICIES* To ensure members have adequate opportunity to attend trips and events and that staff time and center resources are properly utilized, the following polices must be followed:  All trips require a minimum of five people. Trips not meeting the minimum number will be cancelled 24 hours in advance and credit will be given to those already signed up.  If you choose to meet the bus at a destination, you will be charged $2 to offset the bus fee. This fee does not apply if the bus if full.  When you sign up for a trip or presentation/event, you are making a commitment to this activity and are responsible for putting it on your calendar and showing up on time.  If you cancel 24 hours before a trip occurs, you will receive a credit toward another trip.  NEW POLICY: CREDITS WILL BE AVAILABLE ONLY FOR 90 DAYS.  A ticketed trip/event will not be refunded or credited unless someone takes your place from the waiting list or by someone you recruit.  Cancelling or not showing up for three or more trips within a month will result in being placed on a waiting list the following month for all trips.  Please note the bus departure time and arrive on time. Drivers will not wait!  There are no cash refunds for any trips/events.  Exceptions may be considered by the Center Director in extreme situations.

Senior Ride Nashville Presentation Thursday, November 8 at 10 am Senior Ride Nashville wants to foster a community that connects and empowers older adults. They believe the best way to do this is to connect seniors who no longer drive with volunteers who do. By giving older adults the ability to get around town and foster relationships with community members, they honor the city we live in and make it better for all. Senior Ride Nashville was created in 2016 by the Council on Aging of Middle Tennessee and the Senior Transportation Leadership Coalition with strong support from the local community. The support of their growing network of sponsors and community partners is crucial, including those organizations serving the senior population in Nashville and the many churches, synagogues, and mosques who help them identify older adults in need of transportation. English Paper Piece Quilting Mondays in November from 10 am –11am (Starts Nov. 5) Talented member and volunteer Libby Hanesworth is excited to share her skill in English Paper Piece Quilting with other members. She has made beautiful quilts using this technique, and she will show you step-by-step how you can make your very own quilt with this method. Libby will prepare kits for everyone. The only item you need to bring is a pair of scissors. The best part is that this is FREE! Here is a description about this type of quilting: English paper piecing involves stabilizing fabric around a paper shape before sewing the pieces together to create intricate designs. It is most effective for designs that don’t have long straight sides but do have numerous set-in corners, such as the hexagon shapes. Because it's done by hand, it makes the perfect on-the-go project. With a little instruction, you can learn to traditionally piece most triangles, too. Sign up with a staff member or volunteer! There are limited spots so sign up quickly!

All About Trees Saturday, December 1 at 10 am Speakers from the Nashville Tree Foundation and the Metro Nashville Tree Advisory Committee will share the importance and benefitting factors about preserving our trees. Trees can add value to your home, help cool your home and neighborhood, break the cold winds to lower your heating costs, and provide food for wildlife. Join us for an informational program to learn about how to care for, plant and preserve our beautiful and diverse tree population. Information about the Emerald Ash Borer will also be presented. This is a FREE presentation. Sign up with a staff member or volunteer.
