We are excited to welcome back Kenzie Wetz to perform at this month’s center lunch. Kenzie has played fiddle and sung background at The Grand Ole Opry for artists including Brad Paisley, The Oak Ridge Boys, Pam Tillis, Little Jimmy Dickens and Whisperin’ Bill Anderson. Join us for a fun time of fellowship, wonderful music and a delicious homemade Thanksgiving meal served by The Donelson Café. The cost is $8.

Annual RSVP Holiday Gift/Toy Drive th

The 2017 5 Annual FiftyForward RSVP Holiday Gift/Toy Drive begins Wednesday, November 8th and ends Thursday, December 7th. We will have a designated bin for the donations located in the center’s lobby.

Since 2012, children of Tennessee Veterans served by the Nashville Vet Center have received special Christmas gifts thanks to this program. We hope you consider providing a child with a gift this Christmas. Do NOT wrap these gifts. All gifts must be “new” and include only unbreakable toys (no glass or brittle plastic).

RSVP will host a "Volunteer Gift-Wrapping" event on Monday, December 11th at the FF Knowles Center from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm which also includes a FREE lunch. Sign up for the wrapping event with staff or a volunteer.

Medicare Open Enrollment (ends December 7) Whether you are new to Medicare, getting ready to turn 65, or preparing to retire, you will need to make several important decisions. If you wait to enroll, you will pay a penalty and may have a gap in coverage. We have many providers that will be visiting Donelson Station to help you with your Medicare questions and decisions: Nov. 3 and Nov. 17 from 9 am until 12 pm. SHIP (TN State Health Insurance Program) Nonbiased representatives will help you pick a Medicare plan that works best for you. You MUST sign up for an appointment with a SHIP volunteer in the front office or with a volunteer.

It’s hard to believe that November is here! I’m so thankful for all of you as well as our fabulous staff and volunteers. Please be sure to show your appreciation to the volunteers especially. They do so much for us.

With the cooler weather come nasty viruses and illness. If you do not feel well, are running a fever or think you might be sick, please do not come to the center and risk others getting sick. We do our best to keep the center clean, but remember to wash your hands! That’s the best way to stay healthy.

Fridays, starting Friday, November 3 at 10 am Join certified Yoga instructor, Burnell Thibideaux, for a new seated Yoga class. Chair Yoga is a gentle form of yoga practiced sitting in a chair or standing using a chair for support. This is great for those unable to get off the ground and for those with disabilities. It will deepen your flexibility and strengthen personal body awareness.

This type of Yoga can help with many health issues such as high blood pressure (hypertension), anxiety, chronic fatigue syndrome, arthritis, osteoporosis, depression and chronic pain. Chair yoga is one of the gentlest forms of Yoga This class is FREE. Just show up and do what you can!

Book Club Do you love to read and discuss your thoughts with others? Then, join our Book Club. They meet on the 4th Monday of each month at 10:30 am.

Everyone is welcome.

Each month a club member picks a book of his/her choice for everyone to read, and then they meet a month later at Donelson Station to discuss the book. This club is a great way to meet others. Many friendships have formed from this group alone. No need to sign up. Just show up. This is FREE!!!

Holiday Craft Fair Saturday, December 9 from 9 am until 4 pm We invite all of our “crafty” vendors to sell their merchandise at our annual Holiday Craft Fair. This takes place in conjunction with the Donelson Christmas Parade so we usually have a great turn out since the parade ends in our parking lot. The cost for a table is $20. This entitles you to one six-foot table or two three-foot tables provided by Donelson Station. You can NOT request a spot in our hallway. That will be chosen by the Center/Program Director.

We will be placing an ad in The Community Ledger, on our electronic sign and our Facebook page to let the community know about this event. Be sure to bring a tablecloth, money bags and the change you will need. All items must be NEW or handmade. We do not allow baked goods for sale. Writing Workshop-Starts Wed., Nov. 15 at 9 am. This is a FREE 4-week class (Wednesdays through Dec. 6) taught by Publisher Richard Loller from the Preservation Foundation (a non-profit publisher preserving the extraordinary stories of ‘ordinary’ people). You will be writing your own story or book. This workshop will help you get your story written and polished for posting on the Storyhouse website or for publishing it as a paperback or e-book. Author Presentation-Wed., Nov. 15 at 10 am. Hear author Jennifer Ghoston speak about “The Truth So Far,” a true story about her life as a retired Chicago Police Detective and her journey to reunite with her birth family. Canvas Painting Class-Fri. Nov. 17 at 2 pm. Professional artist, Kara Williamson, will guide us through a canvas painting class. You do NOT have to have any artistic ability. This painting will be done in small steps. The cost for the class and all materials is $25. At right is the picture that you will be painting. AARP Safe Driving Classes-Mon., Nov. 20 and Tues., Nov. 21 from 1 pm until 5 pm. You must attend BOTH classes in order to receive credit for this class. Call your insurance company before you sign up to see if you will save money on your car insurance. This course teaches proven driving techniques to help keep you and your loved ones safe on the road. You will learn facts about the effects of medication on driving; how to reduce driver distractions; how to maintain the proper following distance behind another car; proper use of safety belts, air bags, anti-lock brakes; techniques for handling left turns and right of way; age-related physical changes and how to adjust your driving to compensate. The Therapy Gym Presentation-Tues., Nov. 21 at 10 am. Beverly Bell’s wellness gym in Mt. Juliet specializes in treating diseases that affect movement. She has started a program called Optimum Hope that is a Parkinson Wellness Recovery program. Combining her program with the correct medication can help stall the debilitating effects of Parkinson Disease. Her hope is to build a strong community with this program along with education and wellness. This is FREE! Sign up with a staff or volunteer.

Piecing Hearts Together Craft Class– Tues., Nov. 28 at 2 pm. Enjoy making your own Christmas Wreath with the founder of “Piecing Hearts Together,” Heather Van Syckle. Heather’s focus is to inspire and uplift aging adults by providing creative opportunities and encouraging them to bring out the artist within themselves. The “Piecing Together” art workshops help alleviate anxiety, loneliness, depression and other things that negatively affect the quality of life of senior citizens. Watermelon Moon Farm-Wed., Nov. 29. Every year we visit the beautiful Victorian home, Watermelon Moon Farm. This quaint bed and breakfast located 7 miles outside of Lebanon is an antebellum gem. Enjoy the beautiful holiday decorations throughout and shop while you sip on some hot apple cider. A homemade lunch will be served and you can walk around outside and visit with the farm animals. The cost for everything is $26 which includes your lunch, tour and bus ride. This trip usually fills up quick, so make sure to sign up fast with a staff member or a volunteer. Dr. Sandberg Presentation “Doc, My Knee Hurts”-Thurs., Nov. 30 at 9:30 am. Dr. Rory Sandberg is an orthopedic surgeon with Summit Medical Center that just joined Pinnacle Surgical Orthopedics. He specializes in hip and knee replacement (including infections), and non-operative treatment of hip and knee arthritis. Enjoy some snacks while he shares some great information with you about his services. If you experience knee or hip pain, please attend. This is FREE. Sign up with staff or a volunteer.

Nashville Predators vs. Vancouver Canucks-Thurs., Nov. 30. If you have never seen the Predators play hockey, you need to join us! The cost is $50 and includes your ticket, the bus ride and parking. You will be dropped off right in front of the Arena. There is plenty of food at the arena for purchase. We will leave the center at 6 pm. Sign up with a volunteer or a staff member.

NEW!!! Seated Yoga classes are on Fridays at 10 am starting November 3.

NEW!!! Memoir Writing and Publishing Class starts Wed., Nov 15 at 9 am.  Beginner’s Strength Training classes are now at 3 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  FREE Legal Help is on Monday, November 27 starting at 1:30 pm. Limited spots!  Ballroom Dancing will no longer meet until there is more interest. Please let staff know if you are interested!  November 23 –24. NO programming. The center will be closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday.  November’s book is “A Gentleman in Moscow” by Amor Towles. 

Pool tournaments will be held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 9:30 am.  Our Digital Camera Club, Computer Club and IPAD/Tablet groups welcome all interested. Just show up with your gadgets! Groups meet the 2nd and 3rd Tuesdays monthly at 10 am.  Tech Help appointments are on Tuesday Nov. 7 by appointment. Bring your electronic device with you and receive FREE help. Make an appointment with the staff or a volunteer. rd  Summit Audiology will be here the 3 Wednesday of every month from 1:15 pm3 pm. All hearing tests are FREE! Grief and Loss Group meets the 1st Sunday at 2 pm at St. Phillips’ Church, 85 Fairway Dr. They play cards the 4th Thursday at Donelson Station at 9:30 am.  Members with a November birthday are invited to join us for cake on Thursday, November 30 at 1 pm sponsored by Senior Helpers and Wilson Bank and Trust. 



Tailgating Share snacks with the aerobics group Fridays after class! 9:30 am.  Sing-Along Choir meets Fridays at 11 am. Have fun singing old songs and hymns. Travel to area assisted living centers to bring a little joy. Just show up and sing! The group will meet at Lakeshore Heartland on November 17 at 10 am. st rd  Let’s Bowl! Join us the 1 and 3 Fridays at 2 pm at the Strike & Spare in Donelson located at 2710 Old Lebanon Rd. Shoe rental $1 and $1 per game! You can’t beat that! 



Bible Study meets the 4th Friday of the month at 10 am.

NEW!!! Memoir Writing and Publishing Class Write, Polish, and Publish Your Own Story or Book Starts Wednesday, November 15 at 9 am This 4-week class is taught by professional book editor from Abbington Press, Richard Loller. Richard has worked for 13 years as their publisher and is offering a FREE class to help you get your story written and published online and in print.

In 1976 Richard founded The Preservation Foundation, a non-profit whose goal is to “preserve the extraordinary stories of ‘ordinary people.” His web site (www.storyhouse.org) has over 1,000 stories by writers from all over the world. In addition he shares these stories in his Email newsletter, The Storyhouse Weekly Reader. There is also a growing back list of storyhouse paperbacks and ebooks.

This workshop is designed to help you (1) get your story started and finished, (2) polish it up for posting on the Storyhouse web site, and (3) possible publish is as a paperback and/or and e-book.

Spots are limited so make sure to sign up quickly with a volunteer or in the front office.

Thurs., Nov 30 Leave the center at 6 pm Let’s cheer on our Nashville Predators as they play the Vancouver Canucks. If you have never been to a professional hockey game, you are missing out! The cost for your ticket, bus ride and parking is $50. You will be dropped off right in front of Bridgestone Arena. The game starts at 7 pm. There are plenty of food and drink stands in the stadium along with memorabilia for sale.

*TRIPS AND EVENTS POLICIES* To ensure members have adequate opportunity to attend trips and events and that staff time and center resources are properly utilized, the following polices must be followed:         

All trips require a minimum of five people. Trips not meeting the minimum number will be cancelled 24 hours in advance and credit will be given to those already signed up.

If you choose to meet the bus at a destination, you will be charged $2 to offset the bus fee.

When you sign up for a trip or presentation/event, you are making a commitment to this activity and are responsible for putting it on your calendar and showing up on time.

If you cancel 24 hours before a trip occurs, you will receive a credit toward another trip.

A ticketed trip/event will not be refunded or credited. If you sign up for a ticketed trip/event, you must find someone to take your place.

Cancelling or not showing up for three or more trips within a month will result in being placed on a waiting list the following month for all trips.

Please note the bus departure time and arrive on time. Drivers will not wait!

There are no cash refunds for any trips/events.

Exceptions may be considered by the Center Director in extreme situations.
