Veterans Day Lunch Trip Enjoy a FREE lunch with fellow veterans on Friday, November 11. We will take the bus to one of the many local restaurants in the area that are offering free meals to veterans. Nashville Public Television and FiftyForward invite you to a preview and panel discussion of NPT’s latest Aging Matters original documentary about abuse and exploitation crimes that victimize one in ten older adults.

CENTER MEMBERSHIP FiftyForward Donelson Station is one of five active aging centers in Davidson County and two in Williamson County. These centers offer various programs, classes and events monthly as well as access to the center amenities.

Membership is $120 annually or $10 via monthly bank draft.

Dear Friends: Thanksgiving is almost here, and we have so much to be thankful for! We will be recognizing our volunteers at the Thanksgiving lunch. They are all amazing and help us do so much here at Donelson Station. They teach classes, answer the phones, enter data, lead activities and classes, make our events a success and so much more! They are the backbone of our center, we are so grateful.

The dust has settled on the BBQ, and we raised a little more than $16,000! Thank you again for all your help and support!

This month members will be receiving a special card illustrated by a client at our Adult Day Services program. FiftyForward has so many wonderful programs and services. This card is an opportunity to support Donelson Station or another program. I hope you will consider giving this holiday season.

While it’s hard to believe right now that it may ever snow, please keep in mind that if we does snow, please call the center before coming in as we may be opening on a delay.

Wow! We have so many trips and events this month. I tried to plan a variety of things to do. Some of you may be feeling inundated with Medicare Presentations and appointments, but we want to make sure you are comfortable with your current plan and give you the option to compare or change before enrollment ends on December 7.

I am running in the Viva La Diva on November 5, and our HipHop Golden Girls that performed at the Talent Show will be doing a dance number on the stage at Nissan before the race. If you want to come and support them and the event, there are a few spots left on the bus. You are more than welcome to ride with us.

Starts Tues., Nov., 8 at 9 am.

This class will last five weeks starting November 8 and ending December 6.

You will learn the basics of art, pencil to paper sketching, charcoal drawings and painting. This is for the beginner with no art experience. Only a few spots remain. Sign up in the front office or at the volunteer desk. The cost is $30 for members and $40 for non-members.

Learn how to maintain your oral health, and learn tips and tricks to keep your smile healthy. With age, we are more likely to have chronic health conditions such as diabetes and heart disease, and we are also more likely to have oral disease. So as we age, it becomes very important to take good care of our teeth and mouth. A trained dental hygienist will offer an interactive presentation.

You'll leave with great information and a goody bag to help you care for your smile.

Holiday Craft Fair

Sunday, December 4th from 9 am until 4:30 pm Some vendors may choose to return at 5:30 pm to sell merchandise to theatre patrons attending the evening’s performance of SCA’s Christmas production Nuncrackers. The cost for each vendor is $20 per 6-foot table. We request that items sold be handmade or new. No flea market items will be allowed. Our Bargain Basement will also be open! Viva La Diva-Sat., Nov. 5. FiftyForward presents the 6th annual Viva la Diva 5k and 10k race at Nissan North America in Franklin, TN. All proceeds benefit FiftyForward programs and services. Chaffin’s Barn “Playing Doctor”-Thurs., Nov 10. See this wonderful, wacky comedy about Rob Brewster whose parents are very proud of their son “the doctor.” What they don’t know is that Rob has used all the money they gave him for medical school to live on while pursuing his fledgling writing career.

Simple Solutions for Home Health Care, LLC invites you to learn about their non-medical home health aide and companion care services for seniors. Greeting Card Workshop-Thurs., Nov. 29 at 1:30 pm. Virginia Provencher (our favorite greeting card creator) presents another class in making handmade greeting cards. The cost is $10, and that includes all of the supplies. Sign up in the front office or at the volunteer desk.

Tooth Wisdom Workshop-Wed., Nov. 30 at 9:45 am. Oral Health of America will share with you how to get smart about your mouth . A trained hygienist will present an interactive presentation, and everyone will leave with a goody bag. This is FREE!!! Sign up in the front office or at the volunteer desk.

*TRIPS AND EVENTS POLICIES* To ensure members have adequate opportunity to attend trips and events and that staff time and center resources are properly utilized, the following polices must be followed:  

     

All trips require a minimum of five people. Trips not meeting the minimum number will be cancelled 24 hours in advance, and credit will be given to those already signed up.

When you sign up for a trip or presentation/event, you are making a commitment to this activity and are responsible for putting it on your calendar and showing up on time. Please remember that presenters work hard to bring education/information to the center!

If you cancel 24 hours before a trip occurs, you will receive a credit toward another trip.

A ticketed trip/event will not be refunded or credited. If you sign up for a ticketed trip/event, you must find someone to take your place.

Cancelling or not showing up for three or more trips within a month will result in being placed on a waiting list the following month for all trips.

Please note the bus departure time and arrive on time. Drivers will not wait!

There are no cash refunds for any trips/events.

Exceptions may be considered by the Center Director in extreme situations.
