Our very own Jamie London has been involved in the arts since she was a child, singing and dancing and acting in plays all over the U.S. Their incredible voices and comedic personalities will make this a show you do not want to miss. This is for anyone wanting to learn how to create a more positive you by practicing principles of gratitude and surrounding yourself with positive people instead up being pulled down by the negativity of friends, family or co-workers. Dear Friends: Young’s Nursery is expecting an early Spring and will have lots of wonderful plants for this year’s Pancake and Plant Sale! Please check out the order form and place your order before March 26.

This fundraiser offers great food and beautiful flowers and plants to help support the center. I hope you will join us for some delicious pancakes, plants, Bargain Basement deals and more!

Volunteers will be needed and flyers will be available to share.

We will be welcoming new members at a Meet & Greet on March 13. Donelson Station continues to have on average 20-30 new members per month! This event is a way for our new friends to hear more about the center, meet instructors and meet other members. If you see someone in a class or event that you don’t know, be sure to introduce yourself and help them get involved.

Lastly, please remember that Lisa works hard to offer a variety of events and trips for low or no cost. If you sign up for something, we are counting on you to show up. Even if there’s no cost, there’s still been time put into planning these activities. We would appreciate a call to better prepare the presenters for a drop in Office/Volunteer Managers attendance or to open slots up to others.

Hi Gang!

Thank you to all who attended our 50’s Sock Hop! I think everyone had so much fun, and I loved how everyone dressed the part. We are thinking of doing a 70’s themed luncheon this summer, so stay tuned.

Please let me know if anyone is daring enough to go roller skating in April. I will keep a list of those interested in my office. We would have the entire skating rink to ourselves and this would be a great “FiftyForward First” for some of you.

Art Classes Start back in April!

MTGMS JEWELRY CLASSES Middle Tennessee Gem & Mineral Society offers more than 30 jewelry classes quarterly at FiftyForward Donelson Station. To be added to the Constant Contact email list, email John Martin at classes@mtgms.org.

Classes include silversmithing, faceting, lapidary, wire-wrapping, basic stone carving, delft clay casting, chain maille and many 1-2 day workshops. Getting Started with Email Basics Wed., March 7 at 2 pm.

This is an overview of an email account. We will assist students in creating their own free email account and provide a look at some of the basic functions of Googles Gmail.

Getting Started with NPL.Digitallearn.org Wed., March 14 at 2 pm.

This class will register on the NPL.Digitallearn.org website. Once registered each student will be able to pick the topic of interest and take that online class. Class topics range from “using a computer, to navigating a website, to intro to email, to intro to Facebook and much more.

Each student will need to bring their own set of earbuds or earphones for this class. NPL Staff will be there to assist student if needed.

Getting Started with Social Media Wed., March 21 at 2 pm We will look at some of the different types of social media and an overview of Facebook.

“12 Ways Being Online can Improve your Life” Wed., March 28 at 2 pm.

This class will use a library device to explore a few of the websites found in the “12 Ways Being Online Can Improve Your Life” booklet provided by the Nashville Library.

Charcoal Scenery Drawing Art Class Wednesdays, starting March 14 at 3 pm (lasts 6 weeks) This 6-week course taught by accomplished artist, Kara Williamson, will help you learn how to draw your surroundings and scenery quickly using pencil and charcoal. Sharpen your observation skills by simplifying what you see into basic shapes and blocks of space, and experiment with various techniques in both mediums.

Gain a deeper understanding of composition and how to use light and contrast to enhance your focal point. You will use a recommended book as a reference throughout the course, and each class will begin with a “right-brain” exercise to warm up our artistic minds. It will be highly encouraged to sketch and practice observation skills outside of class.

Course materials: Set of drawing pencils Sharpener Kneaded eraser and rubber block eraser Drawing pad and sketchbook (size is your preference) Set of charcoal - can use charcoal pencils or charcoal sticks of various hard/softness (chalk style, vine charcoal, etc.)

Lunch and Learn with Dr. Josh Denny-Thurs., March 1 at 11:30 am. There are still a few spots left to learn about Precision Medicine with Dr. Josh Denny from Vanderbilt Hospital.

Nashville Lawn and Garden Show-Fri. March 2. Tennessee’s largest and most popular gardening event will be at the Fairgrounds where you will find hundreds of vendors, lectures, and demonstrations. This cost is $5 for the bus.

Tech Help-Tues., March. 6 from 10 am-12 pm. Volunteer Cheryl Harris helps members with their tech devices. Only four appointments are available, so if you sign up, please show up. Bring your laptop, iPad, tablet, iPhone or Android device with you to receive one-on-one help. Make a 30-minute appointment over the phone or in person. This is FREE for members.

Risk Assessments with Rehab ETC. Inc.-Wed., March 8 from 10 am until 12 pm. Make an appointment with a licensed physical therapist from Rehab ETC where he will perform a complimentary screening and determine the most effective treatment for your condition.

Conditions they can treat include chronic pain, back pain, TMJ, muscle tendonitis, neck pain, plantar fasciitis, headaches, rotator cuff impingement, frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel, sciatica and muscle strains. Appointments can be made with staff or a volunteer. This is FREE! Greeting Card Class-Fri., March 9 at 1 pm. Virginia Provencher will be leading this class and providing all materials. Assure Source Medicare Workshop-Mon., March 12 at 10 am. This is a FREE education workshop regarding Medicare. Assure Source is a non-biased company that works with Medicare providers. They will help you with answers to the most common Medicare questions such as: What is Medicare ABCD? When can I enroll? What is the difference between Medicare Supplemental Insurance and the Advantage Plans? Bring your questions with you.

Senior Helpers Presentation on Dementia Part 2-Thurs., March 22 at 9:45 am. This is Part 2 of a three part series on dementia. Kathy Johnson-Warner is an expert in Alzheimer’s and dementia care. Learn how to make your loved one’s life, and yours, much easier and more enjoyable. Learn about the beginning stages of this disease and how it affects the afflicted and the family. FREE Health Screenings with Affordable Pharmacy Affordable Pharmacy located in Donelson will be here on Wednesday, March 28 from 8 am until 12 pm offering FREE health screenings to our members. You MUST sign up for an appointment. The following screenings will be available: BMI (Body Mass Index) Blood Pressure Glucose Testing Cholesterol Testing You can sign up for all four screenings. If you chose to do the glucose and cholesterol testing, you must fast 8 hours before your appointment time. There are only 16 appointments available so be sure to sign up quickly with a volunteer or staff member.

Chess Club Tuesdays at 1 pm starting March 6 We have had a great response to our advertisement in last month’s Depot for chess players and would like to see if more members are interested. Robert Campbell, our chess instructor, has formed a chess club that will meet on Tuesdays in March. If you would like to join the group, just show up!

*TRIPS AND EVENTS POLICIES* To ensure members have adequate opportunity to attend trips and events and that staff time and center resources are properly utilized, the following polices must be followed:  All trips require a minimum of five people. Trips not meeting the minimum number will be cancelled 24 hours in advance and credit will be given to those already signed up.  If you choose to meet the bus at a destination, you will be charged $2 to offset the bus fee. This fee does not apply if the bus if full.  When you sign up for a trip or presentation/event, you are making a commitment to this activity and are responsible for putting it on your calendar and showing up on time.  If you cancel 24 hours before a trip occurs, you will receive a credit toward another trip. A ticketed trip/event will not be refunded or credited. If you sign up for a ticketed trip/event, you must find someone to take your place.  Cancelling or not showing up for three or more trips/events within a month will result in being placed on a waiting list the following month for all trips.  Please note the bus departure time and arrive on time. Drivers will not wait!  There are no cash refunds for any trips/events.  Exceptions may be considered by the Center Director in extreme situations.
