Walden’s Puddle Walden’s Puddle provides care and treatment to sick, injured and orphaned native Tennessee wildlife. It is the only professionally staffed wildlife rehabilitation and education facility in Middle Tennessee. They do not charge for services and receive no federal or state funding. They are here to help wildlife in trouble. Learn about this organization, and meet some rehabilitated critters on Wednesday, March 22 at 10 am. Please consider bringing some of the following items that are regularly needed: liquid bleach, perfume-free liquid laundry detergent, tall kitchen trash bags, paper towels, zip ties, “forever” stamps or gift cards to Kroger, Target, Lowes, Home Depot or Big Lots. They also need animal care items such as fresh produce (no onions, celery, potatoes or iceberg lettuce), pureed baby food meat, dry dog food, goat’s milk, wild birdseed, suet cakes, unsalted walnuts, peanuts and pecans. We will have a drop off box in the lobby for donations. We are very excited to host this not-for-profit group and we hope you can attend. St. Patrick's Day Center Luncheon Friday, March 17 at 11 am We are excited to have Irish entertainer Michael Elley back on our stage to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Michael is a singer, songwriter, producer, publisher and actor who appeared in “Easy Come, Easy Go” with Elvis Presley. He has also appeared in many television commercials Enjoy hearing Michael sing some popular Irish tunes. Lunch will be the traditional Irish meal of corned beef and cabbage served by The Donelson Cafe. The cost for the luncheon is $8. Plant Sale Once again, FiftyForward Donelson Station will partner with Young’s Nursery to sell plants as a fundraiser for the center. Preorder and pay for your plants by March 25th and then pick them up April 8th after enjoying a pancake breakfast and other activities. Order forms now available. Center Director Notes… Dear Friends: Did you know that on average there are more than 30 new members joining FiftyForward Donelson Station each month? These members come to us from all walks of life seeking a way to stay active and possibly make new friends. We want all to feel welcome and hope that existing members will introduce themselves and offer help to new members. Program Director Notes…. Hi Friends, We have so many exciting things happening in March! I would love to have a large group attend the Walden’s Puddle presentation. If you are able, please bring a donation item listed on the front page. They do such great things for the wildlife in our community, and it’s a great way to support their work. We have had wonderful weather in February, and let’s pray it continues since I have so many trips planned in March. In the event that schools are cancelled on the day of a trip, we will NOT transport anybody on our van/bus. Your safety is our first priority!

Art Classes Beginner’s Art 10 Weeks Starts Tues., March 21 at 9 am. The cost is $60 for members ($120 for non-members). This is for the beginning artist, one with little or no experience. Portrait Drawing This 6-week class explores the methods of portrait drawing including the grid method, free sketching and live drawing. The class starts Monday, March 20 from 3 pm-5 pm and ends Monday, April 24. The lesson will be 30-45 minutes followed by open studio time for each participant. Be sure to have the following supplies by the first class: photo(s) to sketch, a 12” ruler, sketchbook, final drawing paper pad (size of choice), a variety of hard and soft drawing pencils, and a kneaded eraser and a white eraser. Instructor Kara Williamson has been a freelance portrait artist since 2001. Parkinson’s Care Program (Part 2) Thursday, March 9 at 10:30 am Senior Helpers’ new Parkinson’s Care Program is the first of its kind in the in-home senior care industry. This three-part program educates caregivers and those diagnosed about how Parkinson’s disease advances and the changes in range of mobility and movement limitations and specific motor and non-motor symptoms along with techniques and strategies for identifying and managing symptoms. Join Kathy Johnson-Warner, from Senior Helpers, to become more educated about this disease in part two of her presentation. This is FREE! Sign up in the office or at the volunteer desk. Garden Gatherers and Donelson Community Garden Outreach Spring is approaching, and we need volunteers to keep our grounds beautiful. If you like gardening, join the group on the 3rd Monday at 9 am. You will discuss ideas before getting your hands dirty. We also love giving back to the community. Mark your calendars for the 4th Monday monthly at 9 am to meet at The Donelson Community Garden located at Fernbrook Lane and Heartland Drive. DCG is a volunteer-based, non-profit organization providing common areas for sustainable food growth to give to the community. Kathy from Senior Helpers will present the second of a three-part series on caring for someone with Parkinson’s Disease. Fifty percent of people diagnosed with Parkinson’s are prone to hospitalization, but this can be reduced when the disease is controlled. *TRIPS AND EVENTS POLICIES* To ensure members have adequate opportunity to attend trips and events and that staff time and center resources are properly utilized, the following polices must be followed:
All trips require a minimum of five people. Trips not meeting the minimum number will be cancelled 24 hours in advance and credit will be given to those already signed up. When you sign up for a trip or presentation/event, you are making a commitment to this activity and are responsible for putting it on your calendar and showing up on time. Please remember that presenters work hard to bring education to the center! If you cancel 24 hours before a trip occurs, you will receive a credit toward another trip. A ticketed trip/event will not be refunded or credited. If you sign up for a ticketed trip/event, you must find someone to take your place. Cancelling or not showing up for three or more trips within a month will result in being placed on a waiting list the following month for all trips. Please note the bus departure time and arrive on time. Drivers will not wait! There are no cash refunds for any trips/events. Exceptions may be considered by the Center Director in extreme situations.
