Wills and Powers of Attorney Need to prepare your will or update one? Elder Law Attorney Marshall Snyder will be at Donelson Station on Wed., March 9 from 8 am-4 pm. Mr. Snyder specializes in nursing home planning including Medicaid planning for nursing home eligibility; Miller Trusts for income eligibility; probate; special needs trusts; wills and estate planning; guardianships; conservatorships; powers of attorney for financial affairs and health care; and V.A. Aid and benefits for Veterans and surviving spouses. Wills and powers of attorney will be $25 per document. Medical directives will be $10. Appointments will last 20 minutes. All documents will be returned and notarized on April 27. Payment MUST be made at the time of service on March 9. Checks should be made to Marshall Snyder. Financial Advisor, Luke Aull, will also be on site to answer any financial planning questions. Meet with Mr. Aull after your appointment. LIONS CLUB The Lions Club has a yellow bin located on the front porch that collects usable prescription eye glasses to recycle.
Recycling Newspaper, magazines and copy paper can be recycled in the bins at the railroad side of the building to help the center earn money.

Inclement Weather Policy If Metro schools are closed, we will NOT have our regular daytime programming, classes, events or scheduled trips. However, our office will still open, although possibly on a delayed schedule. The center will typically only close if the state offices are closed. Call before driving to the Center: 615-883-8375.

Center Director Notes…. Dear Friends: What a busy month March will be! As always, Lisa has a variety of marvelous activities and classes planned. Senior Center for the Arts production of “Sunset Blvd” is running until March 5, and its fundraiser, Fringe and Fedoras, will be held on March 12. On April 2nd, we will have a Pancake and Plant Day at Donelson Station. Donelson Station staff and volunteers will be serving a pancake breakfast that morning to start off the day right. Preorder your plants by March 25th, and then pick them up after breakfast. A few plants will be available for sale that day. Shop the Bargain Basement for great deals! Got things to sell? Sign up for the flea market in the upper parking lot for only $15!

Hi Friends, Spring is just around the corner, and that makes me very excited! We are in the process of setting up a softball game between Donelson Station and Madison Station. We will play with a 16” softball, so mitts are not needed. We are looking for players to join our team. You don’t have to be a great athlete or even great at softball. We just want you to enjoy yourself outside and have fun! Let me know if you are interested by putting your name on the list in the front office. The tentative date will be Friday, April 29 at 10 am. 2017 Stay tuned for London and Paris and Cape Horne! Computer Classes Basic Computer Skills classes will begin Monday, March 14 at 10 am. This is a 4-week class costing $30 for members and $60 for non-members. You will learn about computer hardware/ software, develop working knowledge of computer technology, use the mouse, become familiar with the keyboard, perform basic computer tasks in Windows, troubleshoot computer problems and perform proper shutdown procedures. Author Beverly Fetzer Oakley Local Donelson resident, Beverly Oakley, will share her experience with her husband’s cancer battle on March 30 at 9:45 am. Beverly has written a book about their journey titled “Hanging On For Dear Life.” This is a true story of faith, hope and great love. Beverly will share her journey through pain, uncertainty and heartache but on a road paved with joy and peace. Breathwork There will be four sessions of breath work offered each Thursday in March at 2:30 pm starting March 3 and ending March 24. All sessions involve guided imagery with basic breathwork using different techniques. The first session will be on learning how to follow your breath and paying attention to the body’s response. Other sessions introduce counting breath, breathing to music and how to use scents for relaxation. These sessions are FREE. Sign up in the office or at the volunteer desk.

Pneumonia Study
Do you enjoy reading a good book? Join the Book Club on the fourth Thursday of each month and discuss the title of the month. The choice for March is “I Am Malala” by Malala Yousefsai. If you are interested in joining the club, see the staff for more information. The March meeting will be off-site.
Meditation Yoga We are excited to have Karen Quinn back teaching Meditation Yoga on Thursdays starting March 10 at 2 pm. This is FREE with your membership! Learn how to quiet your mind, relax and embrace silence and take your yoga routine to higher levels. The first part of class is focused on stretching and the latter part focuses on the meditation process. No need to sign up, just show up.
Vanderbilt University is conducting a pneumonia study that will help assess new adult vaccine recommendations to help prevent pneumococcal disease in adults 65 and older on Wednesday, March 16 from 9:45 am– 2:30 pm. They need volunteers who are 65+, NOT a resident of a nursing home and do not suffer from severe chronic conditions. All volunteers will receive $25 for their participation in this study. The study involves taking a 15 minute questionnaire and giving a swab sample from your nose or throat. Appointments can be made in the front office or at the volunteer desk.

All trips require a minimum of five people. Trips not meeting the minimum number will be cancelled 24 hours in advance, and credit will be given to those already signed up. When you sign up for a trip or presentation/event, you are making a commitment to this activity and are responsible for putting it on your calendar and showing up on time. Please remember that presenters work hard to bring education/information to the center! If you cancel 24 hours before a trip occurs, you will receive a credit toward another trip. A ticketed trip/event will not be refunded or credited. If you sign up for a ticketed trip/event, you must find someone to take your place on the trip. Cancelling or not showing up for three or more trips within a month will result in being placed on a waiting list the following month for all trips. There are no cash refunds for any trips/events. Exceptions may be considered by the Center Director in extreme situations.
