Music For Seniors Red White and Bluegrass Tuesday, July 25 at 2 pm Music for Seniors connects area musicians with older adults through live and interactive music programs designed to engage, entertain and educate seniors. Back by popular demand, Donelson Station welcomes Red White and Bluegrass to our stage. Don’t miss this performance featuring Mark Barnett, Kathy Chiavola and Craig Duncan singing great harmonies and performing on banjo, guitar, fiddle, and mandolin. Center Luncheon Wednesday, July 26 at 11 am Kenzie Wetz will perform at our July center lunch. Kenzie’s home base is the Grand Ole Opry where she has played fiddle and sung background for artists including Brad Paisley, The Oakridge Boys, Pam Tillis, the late Little Jimmy Dickens and Whisperin’ Bill Anderson. She will share her love for the oldies singing songs from Ray Charles, Jimmy Dickens and the Mamas and the Papas. Don’t miss this exciting performance and lunch. The cost is $8. CENTER MEMBERSHIP FiftyForward Donelson Station is one of five active aging centers in Davidson County and two in Williamson County. These centers offer various programs, classes and events monthly as well as access to the center amenities. Membership is $120 annually or $10 via monthly bank draft. You will notice that July is a “lighter’ month as far as planning trips. This is due to the heat and the fact that many people are on vacation including myself. I have scheduled a date for our talent show and decided that October would be the best fit and give people more time to get their ‘acts” together. The Talent Show will be on Wednesday, October 18 at 10 am. If you want to participate, please let me know. Please Read Regarding ALL trips! We have occasionally had members want to meet the group at a destination instead of riding the bus. Sometimes we have to cancel the trip because we do not have enough people. We need at least five people in order to make a trip happen. The bus fee helps pay for gas and upkeep. We will now charge a $2 fee for those meeting at our destination. We hope you understand this decision that was made by our membership committee and approved by the Advisory Council.

Flower Power Brigade FiftyForward Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) Interested in volunteering? Love making people smile? The RSVP Flower Power Brigade is a new volunteer opportunity to recycle, arrange and deliver flowers to individuals served by FiftyForward programs, centers and partners. What a difference flowers can make to these individuals. FiftyForward RSVP is recruiting volunteers to pick-up floral donations from 9 am-11am. Volunteers are also needed from 1 pm to 3 pm to prepare the flowers in simple arrangements which will be delivered by the volunteers that serve clients of the Heimerdinger Foundation-Meals 4 Health and healing, FiftyForward Meals on Wheels and FiftyForward Bordeaux Center. Volunteer shifts are on the first three Tuesdays of each month. The program is scheduled to begin service in August 2017. iPad Classes with Nashville Public Library (NPL) Wednesdays June 14 to July 5 from 2-4 pm July 5 -12 Ways being online can Improve your life using your IPad-Class. This class will use the IPad device to explore a few of the websites found in the “12 Ways Being Online Can Improve Your Life” booklet provided by NPL. July 12 - Helpful everyday Apps for Seniors. Explore everyday topics that interest and help seniors. From that we will explore, download and review applicable apps. July 19- AARP, Medicare, Social Security and Senior Related Websites. Navigate to AARP to learn about the information available for seniors. Additionally, the class will explore several links to this website including the Medicare and Social Security links. If time allows there will be other internet searches for additional senior related websites. July 26-Library Resources. The class will explore various areas and databases located on the library.nashville.org website. August 2-Fun with our iPad. This class will look at some fun things seniors can do with their iPad. Possibilities are social media, games, sports related apps, and hobby related apps. Seniors should know about these apps as they provide not only entertainment but help to keep their minds sharper. This in turn helps with their health. These classes are FREE but limited to 10 students. Please sign up for each individual class. Students from previous classes can attend as there will be different content. Don’t have an iPad? No worries! NPL will provide one for the class. Try it before you buy it! Movie at Rutland Place-Thurs., July 6. Join us for a movie at Rutland Place in Mt. Juliet. This independent living facility has its very own theatre, and we get the entire room to ourselves. They supply popcorn, candy and water. This is always so much fun! The movie is TBD. We will call everyone who has signed up with the different titles of movies that are available. FiftyForward Friends Learning In Pairs (FLIP) is an intergenerational, volunteer tutoring program under FiftyForward Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). Tutors work one-on-one with students in Nashville public schools once a week for two hours helping mentor, encourage and provide friendship and assistance to four students struggling in Reading and Math. *TRIPS AND EVENTS POLICIES* To ensure members have adequate opportunity to attend trips and events and that staff time and center resources are properly utilized, the following polices must be followed:
All trips require a minimum of five people. Trips not meeting the minimum number will be cancelled 24 hours in advance and credit will be given to those already signed up. *New* If you choose to meet the bus at a destination, you will be charged $2 to offset the bus fee. When you sign up for a trip or presentation/event, you are making a commitment to this activity and are responsible for putting it on your calendar and showing up on time. If you cancel 24 hours before a trip occurs, you will receive a credit toward another trip. A ticketed trip/event will not be refunded or credited. If you sign up for a ticketed trip/event, you must find someone to take your place. Cancelling or not showing up for three or more trips within a month will result in being placed on a waiting list the following month for all trips. Please note the bus departure time and arrive on time. Drivers will not wait! There are no cash refunds for any trips/events. Exceptions may be considered by the Center Director in extreme situations.
