Donelson Station’s Holiday Craft Fair and Bargain Basement Sale Sat., Dec. 8 at 9 am-4 pm Don’t miss this fun holiday tradition! Browse through all the handmade crafts that vendors will be selling in our hallway. Our Bargain Basement is loaded with goodies and something for everyone. Stick around and watch the Donelson/Hermitage Parade at 2 pm from our front lobby with a cup of hot cocoa. If it’s warm enough, enjoy the parade from our front porch and parking lot. We will have hot cocoa, popcorn and drinks for sale. The Donelson Café will serve warm comfort foods like chili, grilled cheese sandwiches, etc. We still have tables available. There is NO booth charge, but we ask that vendors donate 10% of sales to the center. Stop by our front office and ask for a form. New! On the Road Trips! We are excited to announce NEW “On the Road” trips for our members in 2019. Program Directors from each center will be planning these day long trips. The first trip is set for Saturday March 16, 2019. The group will be traveling to the Irish Day Parade and Arts & Crafts Festival in Erin, TN. Julie Reeves from Madison Station will be taking this trip with the group and can answer any questions you may have. On this trip there will be over 100 craft vendors and 25 food vendors, a carnival and live music. Food is available on your own while you shop and explore. The cost for the trip is $35 for members and $45 for nonmembers. A $2 bus diver tip is also required per person to be paid on the bus ride. Lunch is extra so be sure to plan for that too. You can sign up at Donelson Station for this trip. The bus will leave from Madison Station ONLY at 7:30 am. You must provide your own transportation to Madison that morning. Metro Police Christmas Charities The Metro Police Christmas Charities is a 501(C)(3) non -profit charity that has been serving Davidson County for over half a century. Families are selected based on recommendations from police officers that encounter disadvantaged families on a daily basis. The generosity from the community impacted more than 600 children last year. If you are interested in helping families in need this year, drop off NEW, UNWRAPPED toys ONLY. We have a wrapped bin located in our front lobby. The deadline to drop off presents is December 20 at 12 pm. Thank you for helping make the holiday season so special to these children in the Nashville area.

We will soon begin utilizing a calling system to make reminder calls about trips members signed up for, to let members know about building closures or for other occasions. This will be a recorded message made by a staff member. This system will save staff and volunteer time, allowing them to focus on other tasks. We hope this will keep members and volunteers informed. I would like to thank all of our dedicated volunteers who donated their time and energy into helping our center with fundraisers, projects, assisting the front office, making phone calls, teaching classes, helping with the gardening, working the Bargain Basement and so much more this year. MTGMS JEWELRY CLASSES Middle Tennessee Gem and Mineral Society offers more than 30 jewelry classes at FiftyForward Donelson Station. Membership Fees to Increase January 1, 2019 Effective January 2019, FiftyForward center membership fees will increase to $12 a month via bank draft or $144 annually. As a nonprofit agency, we rely on proceeds from annual membership and program fees, special events, local government grants and funders, active volunteers and other generous community supporters to provide engagement opportunities for older adults. FiftyForward has not raised membership rates in eight years. This increase will offset the rising costs we are seeing to maintain our lifelong learning centers and programs.

Be aware that you can renew your membership at anytime (before it expires) to keep the $120 rate for at least one more year. Bank draftees will not see an increase until their 2019 membership expiration. See staff for more information. Please note all members will be required to complete a new membership form in 2019. *TRIPS AND EVENTS POLICIES* To ensure members have adequate opportunity to attend trips and events and that staff time and center resources are properly utilized, the following polices must be followed: • All trips require a minimum of five people. Trips not meeting the minimum number will be cancelled 24 hours in advance and credit will be given to those already signed up. • If you choose to meet the bus at a destination, you will be charged $2 to offset the bus fee. This fee does not apply if the bus is full. • When you sign up for a trip or presentation/event, you are making a commitment to this activity and are responsible for putting it on your calendar and showing up on time. • If you cancel 24 hours before a trip occurs, you will receive a credit toward another trip. • NEW POLICY: CREDITS WILL BE AVAILABLE ONLY FOR 90 DAYS. • A ticketed trip/event will not be refunded or credited unless someone takes your place from the waiting list or by someone you recruit. • Cancelling or not showing up for three or more trips within a month will result in being placed on a waiting list the following month for all trips. • Please note the bus departure time and arrive on time. Drivers will not wait! • There are no cash refunds for any trips/events. • Exceptions may be considered by the Center Director in extreme situations.

New players are welcome.  Book Club meets Monday, The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown. nd  Summit Audiology will be here on the 2 Tuesday of each month at 11:15 to offer FREE hearing exams.  Chess Club meets on Tuesdays at 1 pm. All are welcome—beginners and experienced!  Weight Watchers meets on Tuesday evenings at 5:30 pm for Weight Watchers members.  Texas Hold ‘Em is on Tuesdays at 4 pm. Join the group of fun players!  The Walking Club will NOW meet on Wednesdays at 8:15 am at the Kohl’s Trailhead. It it’s too cold, the group meets at Opry Mills in front of the Rain Forest Café.  Mah Jong meets Thursdays at 10 am and can take more players.  Digital Camera Club, Computer Club and IPAD/Tablet groups welcome everyone. Sing Along Choir meets at 11 am. Have fun singing old songs and hymns. Travel to nursing homes to bring a little joy. Low—Low or no impact exercise. Great for beginners or those with mobility issues.  Low Impact Aerobics on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8:45 am  Arthritis Foundation Class on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11 am—seated class  Qi Gong Class on Mondays at 9:45 am—great for improving balance.  Tai Chi on Tuesdays at 1:30 pm—great for improving balance. Moderate—You will breathe harder but can still carry on a conversation. You may sweat.  Zumba Gold on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:15 pm.  Beginner’s Strength Training on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3 pm.  Line Dancing on Wednesdays at 9:30 am.  Walking Club on Wednesdays at 8:15 am—good for all levels; walkers choose intensity  Yoga with Richard on Fridays at 7:45 am  Yoga on Mondays and Fridays at 5:15 pm High—Breathing becomes more rapid making it difficult to talk. You will sweat.  Advance Strength Training on Tuesdays/Thursdays at 8:15 am or Saturdays at 9:15 am. Note: This is a general guide. Sing-Along Choir Fridays at 11 am Do you sing? Join our Sing-Along Choir on Fridays at 11 am. They meet in the auditorium and take their show “on the road” monthly to share their love for singing with different assisted living and nursing homes in the area. This month they will be singing on Friday, December 14 at 11 am at Charter Senior Living in Hermitage and Friday, December 21 at 11 am at Bristol Terrace in Donelson. Bristol Terrace is the new assisted living facility (formerly Donelson Place) on McCampbell Avenue. If you would like to join them or just want to watch their performance you are welcome to do that. They would love to have you.

This is a 6-week series of writing assignments designed for personal growth and development. Through writing, you will develop greater self-awareness to create the life you desire. You will use the written word as an avenue for expressing and asserting your individuality and authentic self. The workshop writing exercises involve five writing genres: Introspective Writing, Creative Writing, Op-ed Writing, Memoir Writing, and Private Letters Writing. In each class you will learn the unique aspects of these different writing styles and explore examples of each. Workshop participants will be provided with step by step instructions on how to complete each of the five writing assignments. Author Jim Palmer will lead the workshop. Jim is also a professional writing coach who guides people through the process of writing and publishing their books. Is there a writer inside you with something to express? Inclement Weather Policy If Metro schools are closed, we will NOT have our regular daytime programming, classes, events or scheduled trips. However, our office will still open, although possibly on a delayed schedule. Classes may restart before Metro reopens schools as long as the roads and our facility are safe.
