Center Lunch Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 10 am The famous country music group Montgomery Gentry’s keyboardist will be here to perform Christmas Classics and some of his own material. Eddie K. has always been so good to seniors in our community by performing FREE concerts all over middle Tennessee. The Donelson Café will serve us a wonderful meal after the concert. There will also be door prizes! The cost is $8. Everyone is welcome. Bring your friends and family. Sign up in the front office or with a volunteer in person or over the phone!

Holiday Craft Fair and Bargain Basement Saturday, December 9 from 9 am until 4 pm This annual event has something for everyone! Vendors will be in the hallway selling handmade/new items, and you can also find treasures in our Bargain Basement! Shop before and after the Donelson-Hermitage Parade, which starts at 2 pm! We still have a few spots open for our “crafty” vendors. We usually have a great turn out since the parade ends behind our building. The cost for a table is $20. This entitles you to one six-foot table or two three-foot tables provided by Donelson Station. You can NOT request your spot. Reserve your table today with staff. Plus, the Bargain Basement will be open! Check out all the holiday décor, household items, books and more that we’ve acquired since the September sale! Invite your friends to visit the center before or after the parade. Stick around, stay warm and watch the Christmas Parade from our building. This will be a fabulous event!

CHRISTMAS TOY DRIVES The 2017 5 Annual FiftyForward RSVP Holiday Gift/Toy Drive for children of Tennessee Veterans ends Thursday, December 7th. We have already received some great donations, thank you! The bin is located in our front lobby. Remember, all gifts must be new, unwrapped and unbreakable. There is also another bin located in the front lobby where that we are collecting stuffed animals, hats and scarves for the Metro Police Christmas Charities. These gifts are given to over 600 underprivileged children in the metro area. The deadline for donations is December 20. We appreciate your support! th

Center Director Notes… Dear Friends: December is here! I thank all of you who are making the holidays brighter for others by donating gifts to toy drives, volunteering to visit and sing to others and just being kinder to each other. By now, you should have received a letter from FiftyForward asking for your support this holiday season. While membership fees offset some of the building, staff salaries and other costs, it does not cover everything. We rely on donations. Please consider making a year-end tax deductible contribution to FiftyForward. Please notice the new bulletin board in the Social Hall that Jessie created. It is for you, Donelson Station members, to put up concerns about yourself or other members with their permission. This is where we will also post death notices. If you know of someone who needs to be lifted up or needs resources or assistance, please let staff know. We can possibly help through the FiftyForward Care Team or other community resources.

I am so grateful for our devoted FiftyForward staff and volunteers. Many of you often say that this center is like a second home. Shinn Digg Thursday, December 21 The George Shinn Foundation sponsors this wonderful annual event for seniors in our community. Texas Hold ‘Em Tuesdays at 4 pm We are looking for members interested in playing Texas Hold ‘Em. If you like playing poker or would like to learn, you will like this variation of five card poker. Computer Classes with Nashville Public Library (NPL) Wednesdays from 2-4 pm Dec. 6—Open Lab Work on digital courses or explore with instructor guidance and support. Join a social worker and an RN from Skyline Medical Center as they discuss holiday depression. Social isolation is one of the biggest predictors of depression, especially during the holidays. People who have feelings of disconnectedness often avoid social interactions at holiday time. Unfortunately, withdrawing often makes the feelings of loneliness and symptoms of depression worse. FREE Seminar on Hospice/Wills and Health Documents-Thurs., Dec. 14 at 10 am. Asera Care Hospice and Elder Attorney Lea Johnson will be here to discuss hospice care along with Healthcare Directives, powers of attorney and wills. Ms. Johnson will explain how you can remain in control of your health care decision-making, how conservatorships can be avoided, and what wills can and cannot do. This is a FREE presentation. They will resume January 22 at 10:30 am.  No Spanish Classes in December. They will resume in January.  Texas Hold ‘Em will start back up Tuesday, December 5 at 4 pm.  Seated Yoga classes are on Fridays at 10 am starting November 3.  Beginner’s Strength Training classes are now at 3 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Ballroom Dancing will no longer meet until there is more interest. Tailgating Share snacks with the aerobics group Fridays after class! 9:30 am.  Sing-Along Choir meets Fridays at 11 am. Have fun singing old songs and hymns. Fa La La La La! Christmas Caroling Friday, December 22 at 1 pm We would love to have some of our members join us as we go caroling to friends who are unable to get out this holiday season. This will be our third year visiting and singing, and it brings so much joy to those who have a hard time getting out of their house to participate in holiday events. We will ride in our holiday sleigh (aka the bus) to bring cheer to these members. The bus will leave at 1 pm. Be sure sign up with a staff member or volunteer.

“A Day of Thanks” Thank you to The Donelson Café On Thanksgiving Day, The Donelson Café opened its doors to feed members and friends that did not have a place to go, could not afford a meal or would be alone on this holiday. These friends were invited to come and enjoy a traditional, hot Thanksgiving meal with others and share in a “Day of Thanks.” WSMV channel 4 was here to document this special day with the Café’s owners, Kevin Miehlke and Mark Dickerson. FiftyForward is proud to share space with these special men who give back to the community without hesitation. They plan to make this an annual event and hope to have an even bigger turnout next year. Thank you for all you do Kevin and Mark!

FiftyForward’s Sing Along Choir Our Sing Along Choir will be taking their holiday show “on the road” to Provision Living in Hermitage on Friday, December 15th at 10:30am. They will sing Christmas Classics for the residents to enjoy. They welcome anyone that would like to come and listen to them sing or if you would like to join the choir they meet on Fridays at 11 am at the center. *TRIPS AND EVENTS POLICIES* To ensure members have adequate opportunity to attend trips and events and that staff time and center resources are properly utilized, the following polices must be followed:         

All trips require a minimum of five people. Trips not meeting the minimum number will be cancelled 24 hours in advance and credit will be given to those already signed up. If you choose to meet the bus at a destination, you will be charged $2 to offset the bus fee. When you sign up for a trip or presentation/event, you are making a commitment to this activity and are responsible for putting it on your calendar and showing up on time. If you cancel 24 hours before a trip occurs, you will receive a credit toward another trip. A ticketed trip/event will not be refunded or credited. If you sign up for a ticketed trip/event, you must find someone to take your place. Cancelling or not showing up for three or more trips within a month will result in being placed on a waiting list the following month for all trips. Please note the bus departure time and arrive on time. Drivers will not wait! There are no cash refunds for any trips/events. Exceptions may be considered by the Center Director in extreme situations.
