Center Luncheon Wednesday, August 22 at 11 am We are excited to have singer-guitarist-storyteller Jerry Fox perform his one man show, Ninety Years of Country Music, live on our stage. Ninety Years is a musical tour that begins with the genre’s Appalachian roots and the songs of the 1920’s Carter family and continues through each decade with hit songs and stories about famous country music stars up to the present day. The show includes signature songs by the 1930’s “Blue Yodeler” Jimmie Rodgers, The Sons of the Pioneers, Gene Autry, Roy Acuff, Ernest Tubb, Hank Williams, Kitty Wells, Marty Robbins, Merle Haggard, George Jones and ends with 2018 CMA and ACM award winner Chris Stapleton. There are humorous anecdotes and impersonations with an imagined hilarious on-stage exchange between Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings.
Jerry’s musical career has included such highlights as playing bass behind four Country Music Hall of Fame inductees; performing as a guest on the Grand Ole Opry and being a founding member of the 1980’s Warner Bros. Records group Bandana who was nominated for vocal group of the year by the Academy of Country Music. Don’t miss this performance! The cost is $8 and includes a delicious lunch from The Donelson Café. Brain Games Competition Thursday, August 16 at 10 am We are excited to announce that our trivia team, The Donelson Dames, will be participating in the Greater Nashville District Competition Brain Games on Thursday Aug.16 at 10 am. This will take place at the Granny White Church of Christ fellowship Hall located at 3805 Granny White Pike. Our brilliant team of ladies includes Jennifer Aldrich, Eileen Hurt, Norma Tekell and Jane Durkin as our alternate player. These women have been meeting on Mondays answering challenging trivia questions to ready themselves for this competition. This is our FIRST time to participate in this event and we want to show our team some support from members. We invite you to come on out and cheer them on. We may have a few spaces on the bus so let us know if you need a ride or else you are more than welcome to meet us there. Good Luck to The Donelson Dames!
