Logan’s Roadhouse will donate 20% of diners’ checks back to FiftyForward! Plus, we get to enjoy wood fire grilled steaks and some southern inspired favorite dishes! Sign up in the front office. Tree Lighting Ceremony Join us for our first ever tree-lighting ceremony on Fri., Dec. 5 at 4:30 pm. Bring an ornament (old or new) to hang on the tree and enjoy hot cider! We cannot guarantee your ornament will be returned. Thank you to Teresa Green (tree lot owner) for the donation of a live Christmas tree!

Christmas Craft Fair Saturday, December 6 from 9am-4pm Find those perfect Christmas gifts! Items include wreaths, candles, lotions, jewelry, ornaments, greeting cards, woodworking puzzles and more! Come by to shop and then enjoy the Donelson/Hermitage Christmas Parade which starts at 2 pm and ends behind the center.

The Bargain Basement, located in the rear of our building, will also be open. Be sure to check out all of the great deals down there. Drop off your donations (no electronics or clothing please) to support the center.

Snow Policy for 2014-2015 If Metro schools are closed, we will NOT have our regular daytime programming, classes, events or scheduled trips BUT, our office IS still open. The Center would only close is if the state offices are closed. We may have a two-hour delay in opening our office on days that Metro schools are closed.

Dear Friends: Happy Holidays! It’s amazing that another year is coming to a close. They seem to go by faster as we grow older. It’s a great reminder to take nothing for granted and always live life to the fullest!

I challenge each of you to do just that in 2015. Try something new. Reach out to someone you haven’t talked to in a while.

Share your story. Laugh more. Enjoy time with your friends and family. Make a new friend. Forgive.

Dear friends, The holidays are approaching fast! We have a lot of great things planned for December. I hope to see you all at our Tree Lighting Ceremony on Dec. 5. Make sure to bring an ornament to hang on our live tree. Our craft fair is the following day. Come on by and check out the goodies and stay for the Donelson/Hermitage parade at 2 pm.

Make sure to put any trip requests into the suggestion box located in the front lobby. I do read ALL of them!

Lastly, if you would like to take my strength training class, please see me before you attend your first class. I need to make sure that you are aware of what this class entails.

FiftyForward Partners with Silver&Fit!!

Beginning in January 2015, FiftyForward will partner with the Silver&Fit, a benefit of several insurance plans including Aetna and Cigna HealthSpring. If you are a member of one of the participating insurance programs, your membership to FiftyForward will be paid! This partnership will allow centers the opportunity to add more fitness classes. Look for more information soon!

Renew Your Membership!!

Renew your membership before December 31 and pay only $115 (normally $120) or get a $5 voucher to use toward a trip or class in 2015 if you are a bank draft member.

A change in the membership form requires all members to complete a new form. Call or stop by the office to make sure you are up to date!

Exciting New Technology Comes to FiftyForward!

We are excited to partner with My Senior Center, a web based program, that will simplify how we enter and track membership data. With this much needed technology upgrade, we will be using a brand new scanning system for our front desk check-in. Your current FiftyForward card will still work. The touch screen will be much larger, and you will be able to select specific activities and classes rather than just general categories. The system is very user friendly, but we will also have volunteers standing by to assist you. As with anything new, there will be a period of adjustment as we all get used to this new system. We kindly ask for your patience as we all will be learning together.

“A Christmas Carol” Come and see the classic tale by Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol! It tells the story of bitter old miser Ebenezer Scrooge and his transformation resulting from supernatural visits by Jacob Marley and the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. A great show for the entire family.

The show runs from Nov. 21 - Dec. 14. $30.00 for dinner and the show. Group pricing is available.

MTGMS JEWELRY CLASSES The Middle Tennessee Gem and Mineral Society offers more than 30 jewelry classes at FiftyForward Donelson Station. Sign up for Winter Classes on Sat., Dec. 20. If you would like to be added to the Constant Contact email list, send a request to John Martin at classes@mtgms.org.

Classes include silversmithing, faceting, lapidary, wire-wrapping, basic stone carving, delft clay casting, chain maille, and many 1-2 day workshops. Discounted prices range from $10 to $25 per class to FiftyForward members.

More Class Updates Beginning Art窶年ew class starts Jan 13 for 12 weeks. The cost is $60.00 for member. No artistic talent needed for this class. You will explore oil, acrylic, pastels and pencil. Sign-up in the front office.

Intermediate/Advanced Art 窶年ew class starts Jan. 14 for 12 weeks. The cost is $50.00 for members. This is for experienced artists only who are ready to work on their own project of choice. Sign-up in the front office.

2015 COMPUTER CLASSES All computer classes are $20 for members and $30 for non-members Basic Computer Class-Jan. 10-31 Learn the basics from turning your computer off and on, mouse skills, internet surfing, opening and saving files and computer terms and vocabulary.

Beginning Microsoft Word-Feb.7-28 Microsoft Word is a very powerful word processing application designed to save you time while creating letters, CVs, reports and other documents. You will learn the basic features of MS Word, the skills to edit and format documents with ease, and the ability to set up pages and print documents.

Advanced Microsoft Word-Mar. 7-28 This course is designed to teach advanced techniques on how to program more efficiently and automate repetitive processes. This will benefit attendees who deal with large documents and perform repetitive tasks which could be automated using macros.

Donelson Station Hosts Tree Lot Teresa Green has beautiful live trees for sale in our south parking lot.

Donelson Station & Hip D Partner to Support MNPD Metro Police and Hip Donelson are collecting items/toys for families in need. They would especially like large stuffed animals (new, with tags). They have 177 families that they are helping this year. You can drop off unwrapped, new toys here at FiftyForward. The large drop-off box is located in the front lobby as you enter our building. You can also give a monetary contribution on their website at www.hipdonelson.org.

Nashville’s Tradition of Music and Puppetry Presents String City-Tues., Dec. 2. Learn about the evolution of country music in Nashville with this lively production. From the birth of the Grand Ole opry to present day hits, String City brings history, visual arts and music together on a single stage. Over 30 country music artists appear in puppet form and every one of them played a major role in the development of country music. This is a FREE performance. We will leave the center at 1 pm. The cost for the van is $5.00.

Christmas Craft– Wed., Dec. 3. We will be making a creative Christmas craft! Bring your imagination and let your creative side out! We will have all of the supplies available for your use. The cost for the craft is $5.00 and includes all of your supplies. The craft will start at 1:30 pm.

Lunch and Christmas Shopping at Opry Mills—Thurs., Dec. 4. Join us for shopping and have a little lunch of your choice! Opry Mills has the food court, Claim Jumper, Chuys and many more to choose from.

We will leave the center at 10:00 am. The cost for the van is $3.00.

Vitamin Presentation-Fri., Dec. 5 at 9:45 am. Wellness Educator and Consultant, Arlene Martin, will teach you all you need to know about vitamin supplements and how to reach optimal health. Come with questions!

Learn what vitamins you should or should not take with your current medications. This is a FREE event. You must sign-up in the front office.

Tree Lighting Ceremony at FF Donelson Station-Fri., Dec 5 at 4:30 pm. Bring an ornament to put on our live tree and join us for our FIRST EVER tree lighting ceremony. Holidays are a time to gather and rejoice! We will have some hot cider and great fellowship. Hope to see you there!

Music For Seniors –Mon., Dec. 15. Join us for some holiday music and cheer with another fantastic “Music For Seniors” performance. “Chicken Soup for the Soul, Touched by an Angel”-Wed., Dec. 17 at 9:45 am. Freelance writer, Karen Elley, will be here to share her story she has written for “Chicken Soup for the Soul, Touched by an Angel”. Her story is one of Divine Intervention, Faith and answered prayers. This is FREE! Sign-up in the front office.

Supper Club- Thurs., Dec. 18. The group is headed to Mad Platter in Germantown. A Nashville staple for more than 25 years, their shrimp and grits are a longtime customer favorite! FREE Christmas Luncheon at Lipscomb University– Fri., Dec. 19. The George Shinn Foundation invited us to their Christmas luncheon which includes entertainment with Jeannie Seely, Jimmy Wayne and Buddy Jewell; door prizes and lots of giveaways! And, it’s FREE! Nashville Ballet’s “The Nutcracker”-Tues., Dec.23. We are invited to a FREE performance of “The Nutcracker” at TPAC. We are so grateful to The Nashville Ballet for hosting us! There are only 12 tickets available. If you sign up, you MUST go! This is for members who are positive that they are able to make the performance on this particular day. Cost is $10.00 for members for six weeks of classes. $20.00 for non-members.  Our Digital Camera Club, Computer Club, and IPAD/Tablet class welcome anyone who would like to join. Feel free to just show up! Bring your gadget with you! The classes are on the 2nd and 3rd Tuesdays of each month.
