EDDIE K. CONCERT Eddie K. is back, April 27 at 10 am to share his “Springtime Songs and Stories” concert. If you have not been to an Eddie K. concert at FiftyForward, you are missing out! When Eddie is not performing for senior centers, he is on the road touring with the well known country band, Montgomery Gentry.

Eddie’s love for seniors always brings him back to perform for multiple centers in middle Tennessee. There will be door prizes, lunch provided

Dear Friends: What a wonderful and quick month March was! Despite the crazy weather, we were able to have a successful pancake breakfast and live blues concert! Thanks to these Advisory Council members and volunteers for helping with the Pancake Breakfast: Sandy Crow, Jane & Joe Durkin, Jeff Halfacre, Larry Keeton, Sue Medcalf, Nancy Satterfield, Tana & Marinus Schot, Will Smith, Karen Waggoner and Melissa Wilson.

Program Director Notes….

Dear Friends, As spring/summer is approaching, we will have a lot of opportunities to do outdoor activities. I have a few ideas in mind that I know would be on the list of “firsts” for a lot of our members and myself. I want to hear your thoughts. What are you interested in trying for the first time this spring/summer? Paddle boarding?

Zip lining? Cave hiking? Rock climbing? Kayaking? Please let me know your thoughts on these ideas.

Also, I have had interest from members to see a show at the Grand Ole Opry. Tickets range from $42-$75 depending on where you sit. If you are interested, come see me! I would like to book something in May or June.

NEVER leave your phone unattended!

Write down the make, model & serial number of your phone in case you need to make a police report.

Review your warranty agreement to see what will happen if your phone is lost or stolen.

Establish a password in order to restrict access.

Consider Installing anti-theft software.

If your phone is lost, report it to your carrier right away.

You are responsible for all charges incurred.

If you think your phone is stolen file a police report right away.

Shuttle To BNA For FF Art Exhibit We are so excited to view the art exhibit done by FiftyForward staff and members at the Nashville Airport on Tues., April 14. The shuttle leaves at 3:45 pm. Be sure to sign-up in the front office before April 10 to be approved through the airport’s security clearance.

Sing Along!

Join the Sing Along group that meets each Friday at 11 am in the auditorium.

They sing a mix of hymns, patriotic songs and old classics. Can’t sing? Go with them to area nursing homes and make someone’s day with your visit!

MTGMS JEWELRY CLASSES The Middle Tennessee Gem and Mineral Society offers more than 30 jewelry classes quarterly at FiftyForward Donelson Station. If you would like to be added to the Constant Contact email list, send a request to John Martin at classes@mtgms.org.

Classes include silversmithing, faceting, lapidary, wire-wrapping, basic stone carving, delft clay casting, chain maille, and many 1-2 day workshops. Discounted prices range from $10 to $25 per class to FiftyForward members.

Event/Class Updates 2015 COMPUTER CLASSES All classes are $20 for members and $30 for non-members (unless otherwise noted).

Classes are on Saturdays from 9-11 am (4 classes per month).

Basic Computer Class—Apr. 11-May 2. You will learn Windows 7 navigation, how to save and search files, how to pin and unpin applications and documents to the Start Menu and Taskbar, and how to customize the desktop. The class will also cover what each part of windows in Window Explorer means and what each icon does.

Basic Internet Skills—May 16-30 (3 weeks/$15) Students will learn Internet Explorer, how to download and install Chrome and Firefox and how to add search engines to the browsers. The class will discuss the difference between the internet and the world wide web, what domain names are, and answer the question of “Where does the internet end?” Class will cover customizing your internet experience.

Twitter—June 6-27 Get started using this social media network for professional networking and development. This course will explain how Twitter works, how to create an account, develop an understanding of different “tweets” and how to build a relationship with other users.

The Big Payback, April 20, 8-10 am The Big Payback, hosted by the Community Foundation of Nashville, is a fundraising event that helps non-profits gain money through postings on their website as well as prizes for how well the company promotes themselves. As part of our promotional piece, we will have a photo booth set-up in our front lobby on Monday, April 20 at 8 am. The booth will be provided with props, a background with the title FiftyForward Big PayBack and hashtag signs.

This will help us gain more publicity for this big event, which takes place on May 5. We invite all of our members to join us that morning and have fun taking pictures in the photo booth.

APRIL TRIPS AND EVENTS Estate Sale–Thurs., April. 2 You never know what kind of treasures you will find. The sale locations are released the day before. Lisa will pick two locations based on pictures and amount of “goodies” each sale has. If you find an item too big to take home, you can arrange to come back and get it later that weekend. Leave the center at 9:30. Cost for the van is $6.00.

Mystery Lunch–Tues., April 7 & April 8. We are taking TWO trips this month due to the popularity of this trip! Head out with Joe and the gang to an undisclosed location for a yummy lunch.

We always try to pick new restaurants that we have not visited before. Cost for the van is $6.00.

Marshall Snyder, Attorney at Law–Wed., April 8 at 9 am. Marshall Snyder will be returning all completed Wills, Durable Power of Attorney and Advance Care Plans that were done in February over the phone. He will have all documents ready to be signed and notarized on this day. Make sure to contact him personally if you are not able to make this appointment.

Lebanon Outlet Shopping/Lunch at Mo’Cara–Thurs., April 9. Shop more than 60 stores including The Gap, Ann Taylor, and Ralph Lauren. Art at the Nashville Airport-Tues., April 14 from 4–6 pm. We will be shuttling people to the Nashville Airport to view the art exhibit done by FiftyForward members, instructors and staff. You will see beautiful quilts, paintings and jewelry throughout the airport. The shuttle is FREE and will leave at 3:45 pm. You MUST sign up before April 10 for security clearance—no exceptions.

Alzheimer’s Presentation– Wed., April 15 at 9:45 am. This is a FREE event! Tiffany from the Alzheimer’s Foundation will be here to present the early warning signs and help the family prepare to care for someone suffering from Alzheimer’s. Sign up with staff or volunteers in the office.

Lunchbunch to Sunflower Cafe –Thurs., April. 16. The Sunflower Café serves mouthwatering vegetarian food with a wide variety of vegan and gluten-free options. They use fresh, local, and organic ingredients wherever possible. Enjoy a veggie burger, vegan barbeque and daily chef specials. Cost for the van is $5.00. Leave the center at 10:45 am.

Coffee and Classics at the Schermerhorn –Fri., April 17 at 9 am. This trip is FULL!!! Please let us know if you are interested in going to another Coffee and Classics event on May 15 featuring Symphonie Fantastique! Those interested will be contacted directly. Cost will be $30 due for May 15.

Mile-Long Yard Sale-Sat., April 18. Rain or shine, we are heading to this sale in Watertown!

Shop hundreds of booths with antiques, flea market items, tools, collectibles, food and more! We will leave the center at 9:45 am. We will return by 3:30 pm. Cost for the van is $7.00.

Tour and Lunch at Sycamores Terrace–Tues., April 21. Sycamores is a retirement community with Independent Residential Living (highest level of individuality and flexibility) and Assisted Residential Living, providing personal care supervision with a caregiver on duty 24 hours a day.

Lunch will be provided after the tour. Cost for the van is $4.00. Leave the center at 10:30 am.

Eddie K.–Mon., April. 27 10 am-12 pm. This FREE event is such a crowd pleaser! Eddie puts on a great show with his Springtime Songs and Stories. A $5.00 lunch from The Palm Tree Café will be available but you MUST sign up in the office or with a volunteer.

Dragonfly Consignment/Cortney’s-Tues., April 28. Dragonfly is a great place to purchase gently used furniture and home décor. The owner of the store loves our visits and often gives us a 10% discount. After shopping we will have lunch at Cortney’s and enjoy some great southern food! Cost for the van is $5.00. Leave the center at 9:30 am.

Center Luncheon-Wed., April 29 at 11 am. Everyone is welcome to join us for our monthly luncheon with great food, entertainment, and fellowship. This month we welcome Gordon Roque, singer and pianist, who is well known in the Nashville circuit. Gordon plays at BB King’s, Café Coco and many other establishments in Nashville. The Palm Tree Café will be serving a delicious lunch. Make sure to sign up in the office. The cost is $7.00.

Hiking Club-Thurs., April 30. Hopefully, we will have nice weather for our hike in Edwin Warner Park on the three mile Owl Hollow Trail. This trail is level in some areas but also has some challenging spots. Make sure you are ABLE to hike three miles and that you are dressed appropriately and bring water with you. Our Grief and Loss Group is here if you want to reach out to others who have similar experiences. They meet the 4th Thursday at 9 am. Summit Audiology will be here the third Wednesday of every month from 10am until noon. Our Digital Camera Club, Computer Club, and IPAD/Tablet groups welcome anyone who would like to join.

Musical Theatre Fun 101 $350 for two weeks: June 8-19 from 9 am-3 pm Max campers 16- 20

Using songs from the upcoming 2015-2016 season, campers will create and transform an original story into a grand musical theatre production to be performed at camp’s end on Friday, June 19. Campers will learn music, choreography, direction, and costume/prop development in addition to building actor skills with theatre exercises, games, techniques, dance, and more!!!

“The Boards” in theatre refer to boards on which the stage is constructed. In these fun and age appropriate camps, teaching artists will skillfully guide younger campers in creating their own play using picture books to inform and support ideas and “script”, working toward their work in progress performance on “the boards” Friday afternoons. These camps focus on beginning actor skills, communication and cooperation for theatre and beyond.
